Valve introduces Steam Deck

Old school pirate groups are still around, Fairlight made a Mass Effect Legendary release, for example. Easy rips are from GOG, innoextract can easily extract the files from the installer, so you don't need to rely on the installer on Linux.

What’s installing pirated games on it like? Mines has shipped.

I’ve seen some posts on Reddit, and it seems like a nightmare process (or they’re just making it difficult).
Can the games be installed on your PC and then moved to the deck?
Depends on the game. I've installed a few pirated games, but only linux native builds. However it runs ps2 wii-u and switch emulators flawlessly for me.
For pirated stuff, seems like everything is a repack? Other than fitgirl there's dodi I think, don't really know of any others. Are they all jank on Linux?
other than fitgirl I only use https://cs.rin.ru/forum/ they make a lot of tools fitgirl uses in their releases and they're reliable and respected.
Also https://r-roms.github.io/ has a list for some other respectable sources as well as an extensive rom compilation.

Got mine and experimented with it as well. Did the Elden Ring test vs rickard which is particle hell, dropped to 40 refresh rate and did some suggested optimum settings and looked and performed great.

The fan did give me a bit of a fright since it was going on and off pretty hard for a while. A day later I played some more Elden Ring and no fan explosion, I worried that the fan just wasn't working but the debug feature showed it was spinning, so nos happy on that front.

After that tried remote play, though I used Robotics Notes which was a bad idea since even installed it doesn't detect the deck controller, so tjis took me on a wild goose chase till I noticed this.

After that we did some yohohoing. The video guide for me was ace. I did Octopath Traveller, no repack, just a normal installer with a folder for the steam cracks. Had to install sone Dlls and I was using the default wine insteaf of the suggested, once those bits were figured out it runs perfectly fine outside of a few cases where it failed to start.

I also set up Network sharing so the deck can access a couple of folders from my desktop.

Finally I now have my SD card (went with the 512 gb samsung evo). Just have to format it and do the new stupid proof emudeck setup, I think I have all the bios I need and now it's just shoving in the rooms I want in there.

Basically for now very happy with it.

Because the ps2 emulator has been dogshit for almost 2 decades
It's sad to see that even the long poorly emulated Xbox Original has had people pushing it's emulation forward by strides in the last few years, while the long in existence ps2 emulators get infrequent updates and by all means are unfinished.

Almost every PS2 game is playable and the interface has improved a lot.
Where's the problem with PCSX2?

I'm not an expert on deconstructing what exactly is wrong, but as someone who emulates more obscure shit it just does not appear to run as well as it could and there are still minor errors that take me out of it. A bigger issue with a lot of emulators, not just pcsx is a bad ui, and it's ui simply has not improved for years. Setting up controllers is still a hassle in this one using the latest stable build. Yes, not the emulation itself but the surrounding experience, but important to actually making me want to bother with emulation. Dolphin is still one of the few I feel like bothering with being worth it in more cases.

That's not true at all. The new QT interface is a massive improvement over the old UI.
Is this in a unstable build? I have not noticed a change in years but maybe you're saying it was more subtle than that?

The latest stable release is from 2 years ago. They don't even offer one for Linux.

Use the latest nightly if you want to see something actually recent. And use the Qt release, not the wxWidgets one.

For some reason the flatpaks (the versions you find in the KDE Discover app) don't use the QT version. I have zero reason why.

That’s all I’ve done so far is set up a nice emulation library.

I’m gonna get around to testing pirating next.

It runs my switch and wiiu roms flawlessly, and cemu doesn't even have a linux build. I pirated a bunch of games, but linux builds and they're all fine, I did install 1 native windows game, Elden Ring, and so far I have had zero issues. The seamless co-op mod works perfectly as well

What year do you live in? PCSX2 in 2022 alone is practically flawless compared to 2017. AethserSX on android is really good as well
Ace Combat 4 on PCSX2 still has issues with a silhouette showing for your plane in 3rd person view and replays. You also have some weird banding in AC4 and other games like Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3. You can fix it using the hack settings or software rendering but what's the use in that since the latter doesn't allow you to upscale or apply the anti aliasing.

Silent Hill 2 also requires some setting tweaking in order to get it to play FMVs properly, and Onimusha 1 (and probably 2 from what I've seen on the wiki) still has an issue where character models are partially to mostly transparent during cutscenes. Still haven't bothered attempting a workaround for that yet.

Does anyone know if MGS2 and 3 are playable? Because last I checked, they both have a slew of issues that are unresolved when emulating.
