yep, absolutely. i see this a lot in art communities, and it seems to happen more with trans men than trans women (even though we're the minority of trans people). makes me happy to find other trans people who aren't like that, especially ones that don't feel a need to make all their characters trans (or gay, or anything but straight/cis/white).
See like, on one hand, I completely understand why someone of any demographic, minority or not, would want to have characters that they relate to. Especially true if you don't get much representation of that demographic elsewhere. Not something I have any problem with. Characters are fictional canvases to express many, many things on. The best of humanity, the worst of humanity, the primal desires of humanity, yes, even the furry bullshit. Not every character exists to deliver a message of some kind, they're often just masturbatory reflections of those whom make them.
But even then I still always feel.... i guess a bit of concern when I come across someone's gallery where character after character after character are just trans? If the artist is cis, I can just wave that off as a fetish. Creepy, but harmless as long as they're not passing it off as LGBT representation. But when they're trans, it just seems concerning. Because to me, that seems like... being trans has consumed a large territory of their mental space. Of their life. And probably of their personality, where being trans is one of the most interesting aspects about them.
This. This has long described VCR. I think, alongside it being a fetish, it consumes such a large swath of their every day mental capacity. They eat, breathe and shit being trans. It permeates every brain cell of their being. Because they don't... have much else going for them. When they started being trans is when people started paying attention.
You see this in conduct disorders in teenagers, for example. Kid is neglected. Kid starts breaking stuff, receives attention. Might not be the right attention, but it's attention. Kid breaks more stuff. Negative reinforcement loop, and you have a kid that is getting in trouble with authority, acting out constantly because they crave any sort of attention.
But if a kid can do something that isn't negative, that starts out innocent -- exploring their identity -- and then that thing suddenly becomes one of the most attention-getting things in the past decade? All over the news, one of the big politician topics for both sides in america? Something to wave a flag for? Something to feel pride for? Another attention reinforcement loop. You become obsessed with it, yeah, understandably so.
Then you add SJ politics in. The white knight shit. The constant dopamine hits from the micro perceived Defeated Evils in the world.... all while never having to leave your computer chair. Getting that sweet addictive adrenaline going from all this twitter fights with your fans cheering you on. Punch after punch. Making politics simpler by sorting morality in neat black and white boxes. Making up mantras to repeat in a neat span of 280 characters.
And that art fanbase is good too. Worshipping you. Idolizing you.
Yeah.
You get VCR.
