Are videogames for children?

Why is that? The model of the newest Xbox that can't use discs, and of course can't read discs from a computer or another Xbox One over your network, is the only one that's readily available.

It's less powerful than either the PS5 or XSX. People are really only buying it for their kids or whatever and there's the overhanging fear that there will eventually be new games released that won't run on it.

Making it less powerful than the Series X (and even the Xbox One X in a few cases) is absolutely going to cripple it down the line. It can't (or the developers aren't willing to further optimize) run some last gen games beyond 30fps, it's going to start choking once more demanding games are made.

It being cheaper than the disc-less PS5 isn't worthwhile in people's eyes now, I don't know what Microsoft was thinking here,

Yeah, and even PS4s and Xbox Ones have been MIA for a while. If you're starting from zero and want a video game console, your choice right now is one of the Switches, or specifically an Xbox Series S.

And speaking of which, it's really weird how, despite there being this big crippling chip shortage that's been ongoing for over a year now, it hasn't been hard to get a Series S. Why is that? The model of the newest Xbox that can't use discs, and of course can't read discs from a computer or another Xbox One over your network, is the only one that's readily available. Like, I know the writing's been on the wall for physical copies for a long time now, but Microsoft's also been pushing Game Pass really really hard, and even full-price, AAA MS-owned games like Psychonauts 2 are just not seeing physical copies at all. I can't help but feel like this is the big push. And if the Xbox brand going forward is gonna prioritize subscription services and downloads, eventually axing discs, I'd rather just stick with PC.
Microsoft's whole business model companywide has been to base everything around digital for greater control.

I really hate subscription service models because everything from Adobe to Autodesk uses them now. The programs will refuse to open if they detect your clock is out of sync and other bullshit.

Most PCs don't come with optical drives, however despite this you can look at apple and it's digitalization of music. Records are now back and people are buying them. You can walk into any chain store and buy a brand new record player. Physical media is always going to be around.

Oh, hey, Civvie 11 posted a new video today.

fuck yeah, chasm. remember playing it way back then and had pretty much the same reaction.

Another one is smartphones seriously how the fuck there is more s21s going around than ps5s or series x
not everyone uses TSMC, there are more fabs producing different chips (and I think samsung has their own fabs). it also depends on contingents, iirc a lot of car manufactures canceled their orders when corona was ramping up, and now have to wait their turn again after completely fumbling their predictions, on top of all the fucked up logistics getting shit to and from the factories.

I wondered if the Youtuber Joseph Anderson died/went to Twitch (you decide what's the worse fate). But he is apperantly alive and will be releasing his Witcher 3 introspective eventually after more than a year of working on it

Samsung is running their own state of the art foundries with no problem, just ask Nvidia, and there are others but they are on older nodes and even then they outsource things to TSMC. Intel is making a GPU and they had to go to TSMC while at the same time they are opening up for contract work using older processes.
Global Foundries is a shit show and is being sued by IBM who gave them their plants while they were promising to upgrade them and get up to the point where they can stay competitive, then they sold some of them. GF was spun-off from AMD and was the place where they made their chips until they had to go to TSMC.
Texas Instrum- oh they outsource to TSMC.
I'm not sure that Fujitsu is making chips anymore after collabing with TSMC.
The shambling corpse of Toshiba had some nice fabs once but I don't think they can do much these days.

All in all, for the state of the art, the cutting edge there is:
TSMC
Samsung
Intel

Not to rag on you but almost all roads leads to TSMC now and I hope GF and Intel get their shit into gear to provide some competition here in the west.

Oh boy, more mediocre analysis!

not all need TSMC's state of the art, even intel is still pushing out 10+++++++++++++++++++++ (I think, haven't checked in a while) which still sells since they undercut amd and have their shills conveniently forgot to mention TDP in their benchmarks. apple does some parts in their own fabs etc.

Eh I found it interesting when I found the channel three years ago. Would be glad for a recommendation of video game analysis tubers who aren't pozzed or sellouts.
Yeah I've got a few, depending on what you're looking for.

Long form analysis I'd recommend Running Shine, Matthewmatosis, Tim Rogers, or PatricianTV if you've got a passing interest in The Elder Scrolls. James Howell also has one very solid video on Metal Gear Solid 2 and a few on 3.

Short to medium length I'd go with Raycevick, Cyborcat's old Silent Hill videos, MrBTongue, and Nerrel.

I just love watching videos that take more time to finish than the game itself.
See I'm totally fine with that, I just wish is commentary was anything more substantive than "this is what happens in the video game" and shallow analysis of game mechanics.

So anyone know about Bloodlust Software? I was familiar with one of their works, Time Slaughter...

But didn't know these guys has a presence and a body of work until recently. Their games show every bit of amateur'ishness that would come from two guys doing homebrews at the time. Their design is more jank than every title published in East Europe put together, their hitboxes are non sensical, the balance is all over the place in every game, yet still perfectly playable. The thing is, it's their attitude, their style, their deliberate attempts to just stomp on everything PC and acceptable in video games and somehow not come out looking like tryhards ala Hatred, I frickin LOVE. These are games with soul. I call them the Troma Studios of video gaming, which his quite appropro since the actual Troma Studios let them do a licensed game of one of their titles

These guys, along with Dennaton, Ville Kallio (Cruelty Squad), Airdorf (Faith), Artur Games (Super Cyborg, though sadly that's his sole title), are the sort of cowboys the video game industry fucking needs right now, unafraid to be distinct and nasty. They give me Faith (hyuk) in the medium.

The thing is if hit boxes are nonsensical and inconsistent, then it's not playable. Like you can move your dude around on screen but if the interaction is fucked that's just going to be annoying for the longer you play.

Like take a top down shooter and have it with fucked up hitboxes, it's going to ruin the stages because you won't be able to reliably shoot enemies as they appear on screen.

Most fighting games are going to be based around some form of competitive play so balance is always a thing to consider because it's going to make long term match watching a thing if they keep mixing up the moves and abilities so you don't get stagnation. E-Sports has dug it's way into the fighting genre and seems to have no intention of leaving anytime soon unfortunately. The fighting games that that are not based around e-sports are stuff like Gang Beasts which takes place in a 3d arena and has everything be physics based.

Maybe I overstated a bit in my enthusiasm. The games aren't THAT borked in terms of hitboxes, but clearly, again, they show how homemade it is.

They also made NESticle, and that introduced a fuckton of people to emulation.

That was my point, they still subcontract to TSMC.
Here's a chart of their DISCLOSED customers and where it is going.

I saw this Taiwanese Series about an esports team where a girl joins and causes all sorts of drama. Is the game they are playing LoL?
