Of course Roguelikes always had this anyway, games like AngBand and ToME exist in an open world where taking your time and exploiting the systems lets you get above the power curve it's just harder to balance in more skill based roguelites.
Thing about Angband is that you CAN hang back and grind but there's no penalty for jumping ahead to speed the game up, as long as you don't die.

Doing a seasonal retro run right now. It's October, so I decided to revisit all the 2D Castlevania games from Symphony of the Night all the way to the DS lines.
I beat CV3 and did a failrun of CV1. Plan hit up a few other Linearvanias but SotN is where I get off the train.

I got a good deal on a handheld emulator and wanna play some old ps1 rpgs but I don’t have unlimited free time so I have to commit to one at a time or I’ll never finish any of them, help me pick one:

Did anyone ever end up playing stalker 2? I waited myself out of playing it as I'd known it'd be a buggy pos on release. I've only seen negative things since then

It's like... 10% better than it was before. The world is still largely empty. Performance is still terrible. Enemy AI and balance is still mostly shit. A-Life is still basically non-existent. So on and so forth.

To be clear, it's playable and if you like the setting, it'll probably be an okay experience for you. But it's so far from what it should've been and they really haven't improved much in a year. So, keep expectations low.

A planned update of Unreal Engine might at least help performance a bit. You literally can't get stable 60 FPS in towns on a 9800x3d currently. But since the devs are incompetent, who knows if it'll matter.

"Finished" D4, which means base campaign, expansion, and all seasonal tasks. My opinion of it being the second best Diablo title hasn't changed, nor has my pleb build taste, which means I just made two barbarians with two flavors of whirlwind. The only thing I actually struggled with was T4 Uber Lilith (difficulty of that fight is substituted with random oneshots and it's incredibly annoying to dodge all that shit on a class that cannot stay still), so I asked a friend for help, and he literally two-tapped her with a Pulverize Druid, which I later learned he made specifically because he was sick of he fight and just randomly carries scrubs in party finder, oneshotting both phases even in 4 man groups.
I don't think I will be putting the game down anytime soon since there's still 2 months left in the season, and the gear treadmill along with satisfying combat has me hooked. Looks like shitzard took notes form people complaining about how weak everything felt in D3, but they still haven't figured out what good music is. I thought the fault lay on my side due to it being drowned out by combat noise, so I put the music slider at 100 and everything else at 5. Nothing changed. Nothing stuck, nothing stood out. It was all this orchestral ambient droning without any melody except for a tiny bit in Kyovashad and Kurast which just reused parts from the D2 Kurast theme and also happened to be co-composed by Uelmen.
D2 has the best music out of any vidya gaem and you cannot change my mind about it.

Been going and playing some older games as of late; found myself both looking for nostalgia of more innocent times, and wanting to play games that weren't fagged up the ass. It's been going well, though I admit that it's also made me a bit sad, what with how gaming has fallen so hard since then among other issues.

Like, one old MMO that was a rather major factor of my childhood, I was finally going to start making some more progress in it since I'm an adult and can actually pay the membership fees. It's been a blast, going back in and seeing everything, but... well, there's a certain sadness to it all as well, bit of a "Rosebud" situation. Not that I mind playing the old game again, mind you; if anything, being able to go back and finish off everything that I couldn't is both a welcome relief and feels like putting some old lingering threads to rest. Can't bring back my old character, but I can at least make my new one as close as possible, so it's been going well.

One of the sadder points, though, is that the voice actors for several major characters have passed away over the past few years; I knew about their passings previously, but going back into the game now... feels like it's just now hitting me in full force, really. Like I said, this game was unironically a HUGE source of enjoyment for my child self - it's a major part of what inspired me to become a writer and was/is still a major influence for what I do - so going back and listening to these characters again, one of whom became my favorite recently, there's a certain bittersweetness to it all. Makes me both eager to see the story all the way through, and dreading the inevitability.

Anyways, that's all I got to say for now.

I've been playing some older games lately and I definitely prefer everyone being either an asshole or overly stoic and serious over everyone being a quirkmaxxing quirkchungus.

Dude literally every character sounds like they're right outta Borderlands 3 now, I hate it so much.

Rogue Galaxy looks cool.
It's pretty good. But, every time I play it, I end up hunting and battling bugs and never finish the story. Its FFX and blitzball all over again. Took me years to finish FFX, because I'd fuck around and play blitzball instead of the actual game.

This is the reason the only newer games I've played lately were PC autism simulators. Sailwind, Railroader, Captain of Industry, Stormworks, and Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts. I feel like @Null might enjoy Captain of Industry. Cool Factorio-ish game with a lite exploration factor, and I quite like the terrain system. I've been burying pipes like mad since I learned I could.

I'm not what you'd call a "gamer" but I do enjoy boomer shooters and racing games. I bought tokyo extreme racer on pre release and now the full game is out beyond the forced faggotry in the dialog and the literal loli devil something she is in a solo game, the only other offering from Genki. The full release actually came out and as far as a fun racing game it great. Now today they have released a limited free dlc, that involves a fucking vtuber. rindo chihaya. I also notice alot of the prominent posters on the twiiter for the game arer of course troons.

Idk if anybodys mentioned it but theres gonna be an official Maple Story classic server called Maple Story Classic World soon. More news will drop tomorrow apprently. Im actually kinda excited for it since I havent played Maple Story in quintillion years but I remember liking it a lot back then, hopefully itll be some good fun and wont be fucked over by Nexon greediness :optimistic:

Parasite Eve is a quick playthrough, so if time is limited, that is your best choice.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream got a "Definitive Update" so now all my saves are gone and the game runs like shit since one of the CPU threads is always at 100%.

Truly "definitive" experience.
To be fair, the game is about a computer making your life a living hell, so this is just making it more immersive.

I wonder if Nexon will nerf their anti-cheat just to make hackers rampant on those servers, to give players the "AUTHENTIC CLASSIC MAPLESTORY EXPERIENCE"!
