No idea, I played the OG version because it's a horror game that's supposed to be disturbing and off putting.
I get that, but still I'm curious on what others think of the game. Assume you liked it.

It was ok, definitely not as good as the YouTube essayists made it seem.

I don't like rougelikes and I'm definitely not a fan of accumulating severe unavoidable debuffs that you can't see coming or get rid of.

Maybe I'll give it a pirate then. Saw in the actual thread about the game that it's mostly just trial and error and becomes a cakewalk once you figure it out. Not a huge fan of rougelikes either, however I did like Noita a lot. Game was a lot of fun and I made some incredibly busted wands. Thinkin of playing it again, especially after hearing they added a new ending not too long ago.

Noita is a great game that I hope the annoying YouTube essayists never find.

I cracked open my emulation folder this week and dusted off Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. It's a pretty standard D&D-flavored ARPG, but it's very comfy and well-made. When the very first NPC you talk to looks like this, it's a good sign.

I'm especially a fan of the voice acting so far. This is good stuff:

I got a good deal on a handheld emulator and wanna play some old ps1 rpgs but I don’t have unlimited free time so I have to commit to one at a time or I’ll never finish any of them, help me pick one:

:disagree:>FF7
:agree:>FF8
:politisperg:>FF9
:lunacy:>Parasite Eve
:informative:>Legend of Dragoon
:optimistic:>Xenogears
Alright, I finally got my new OS and frontend set up and it looks like I’m playing(thanks for the help) Parasite Eve! It’s one of the games on my list that I’ve played many times over the years but never actually completed, so this’ll be my first time playing all the way through. Then I’ll have to decide if I want to play the sequel next or go on to Xenogears since it was the runner-up and it’s another one I’ve never completed. It’s funny, when I was throwing this list together it made me realize that even though I’ve put hundreds of hours into these specific games over the past 25 years, I think the only one I’ve actually played beginning to end is FF7.

Wish me luck on scratching a few of these off that list!

I found out famous Game Cube cosmic horror game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem had an official soundtrack release in 2002.

The music itself is pretty varied thanks to the game taking place across several time periods and locations. The tracks for temples and tainted places sound a hell of a lot like Diablo II's tracks for the Catacombs and Kurast and the Desert, or some of PoE1+2's music. Lots of tribal chanting and humming, choir voices, heavy and bassy drums. A couple of tracks depart from that and come off more like Resident Evil safe area and boss fight music.

They work in quotes and sound effects from the game at the start of some tracks, which makes the album feel a lot like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, or an Arjen Lucassen album with no actual lyrics. If you just want the gamerips (which also come with a lot of spooky sound effects and such) those are also pretty easy to find. Good spooks to use as halloween party ambiance or to fall asleep to.

It got a re-release with its sequel on Steam a while ago. I wish we would also get the Norrath games too.

Waterpark Simulator is far more fun than it has a right to be, and it has Halloween content this week!
I will have Spooky and Witchy Woman stuck in my head forever after this.

Steve Henifin is pretty underrated. He also composed the soundtracks to the original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Too Human, and worked on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
Sadly he passed away in 2019, at the age of 51.

Doom Eternal was on sale, so I picked it up. I just finished the first level, and man...I think I'm on the side of the haters. Conceptually, it's more like Serious Sam with really tiny ammo pools than Doom, just arenas of constantly-spawning enemies connected by hallways. It's fun enough, I guess, but it just makes me wish it was more like Doom.

Giving Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon a try. Lots of reviews say it's Skyrim but better. So far performance is ok (800p streaming over sunshine to a steam deck)

Starting dungeon held my attention and was a lil tricky. Combat required thought. The dungeon required a couple trys in a few areas until I got some better gear. Not too hard though, played before bed with the sleepy eyes.

Now that I'm seeing I could be playing Badies Gate Dark Alliance though I may switch. Loved the shit out of that on GC back in the day.

The tutorial dungeon is deceptive. Most dungeons aren't that large or intricate, in fact there's probably only two or three at best. Regardless, I think the game is worth your time, especially after the big patch from a couple of weeks ago. Everything is viable. I strongly suggest picking up the extra dash skill asap.

Did they ever finish the game? I remember a bunch of negative reviews saying the first two two acts are extremely deceptive because the third act has basically no content whatsoever and is unfinished.

Man, I sure love cramped little arenas where monsters just keep spawning and spawning and spawning and they're massive HP sacks and also one wrong move means you die and they only way to survive is dash around like a spaz (p.s. all the monsters move really fast too). This game is full of all these things Doom is known for:
  • Spasmodic ninja antics
  • Combos
  • Tunnel-shaped levels
  • Convoluted lore
  • Heavy-handed cinematics
  • Jumping puzzles
Right? I'm either too old for this shit, or Doom Eternal just is not a good game. It's a punishing slog.

The issue with the third act wasn't necessarily a lack of content but that it was buggy as shit. The story takes a nosedive after act 1 but that's a different issue entirely. I did a second playthrough after the 1.1 patch and the bugs I noticed in act 3 before were fixed. It is a smaller zone than the previous two but it's dense.

How the hell did you even struggle with this!? I was able to beat this multiple times, on ultra violence.

In 25 years online, any time I've said I don't like a game, there's always somebody to say he beat it 30 times on max difficulty without dying once, I love the internet.

Glad you enjoyed the jumping puzzles, really happy for you.
