Are videogames for children?

Well, other franchises have no problem releasing games with the same name. So maybe the same way we have Doom 93 and Doom 16, or Tomb Raider 96 and Tomb Raider 13, we'll have Madden 25 13 and Madden 25 24.
Maybe Roman numerals as a suggestion. Madden XXV.

Random question:

Madden is a yearly franchise. They named Madden NFL 14 (the 2013 version) Madden NFL 25 to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

What will they name the 2024 version of Madden? Madden NFL 25 II?

The other possibility is that they drop the numbers part, i.e. the 2016 Hitman game is just titled Hitman, the 2013 SimCity game is just SimCity, and the upcoming Forza Motorsport game, will just be called Forza Motorsport.

I don't think this works well with annual release franchises though.

Anyone recommend any older, decent retro RPGs worth emulating on my daily train ride? Can run stuff on my phone up to the N64/PS1 generation or so. Looking for anything with a mildly interesting story. Trying to avoid nostalgia based grindfests with mediocre stories like some of the earlier Dragon Quest games.

I played Secret of Mana / FF7 / Chrono Trigger a few years ago and have no desire to revisit those again. I remember FF8 being weird and having some sort of school level you had to grind through -- hated it. Never played FF9 or 6. Earthbound was highly recommended but couldn't get into it, seems like something you had to grow up with. Anything a little more obscure worth looking at?

It sounds like you're not looking for jRPGs and more in the market for cRPGs.

For the N64, you're outta luck since there's exactly one RPG on the whole system and it's bad (Quest 64).

PS1's got some better options. Obviously FF7/8/9/Tactics are there, but of the ones I've played and can attest to their quality there's also Parasite Eve 1 , Front Mission 3, and Brave Fencer Musashi (although that's more of an action RPG and might be harder to handle with a touchscreen). Stuff I haven't touched but heard good things about includes Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Valkyrie Profile, and the first 3 Persona games.

If your phone can do PS1/N64 it can probably do SNES which opens you up to stuff like Chrono Trigger and FF6.

Same as what Smaug said though, you're probably gonna have a better time with CRPGs than JRPGs. I can highly recommend both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games (the second one especially), since they have phone ports that apparently work pretty well. KotOR II's phone version even has support for the Restored Content Mod, which is absolutely essential.

Thanks, I'll give Xenogears a shot, reviews look pretty decent. Not a big fan of Heroes, but I did always want to try playing Might and Magic IV. Could be perfect for my phone, will have to check controls.

Might want to avoid Xenogears. Nothing against the game, I still have nostalgia for it, but suffice it say to say that you won't like Disk 2 of that game. Parasite Eve would be a better choice. Simple, short, and fun.

On another note, this is a thing. Looks so-so.

A lot of people consider FF9 to be the best PSX Final Fantasy title, I would recommend it. I played through Valkyrie Profile on my phone (PSP enhanced port with PPSSPP emulator) and felt that worked quite well. If your phone can run PPSSPP okay, that opens up a lot of PSP games, and there were a lot of RPGs for it like the Star Ocean remakes, and a dozen Legend of Heroes games, the series Trails In The Sky is part of. There's also Persona remakes, but those will definitely require grinding (2 has a good story though, and I only really had to grind in the final dungeon).

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete is a PSX one I played recently and enjoyed. You might need to grind in a few places, though. (This one also has a PSP remake which apparently reduces the grinding, but I haven't played it, and people say the voice acting is worse, but it also fixed a badly translated "puzzle" the original version has).

I liked Breath of Fire 3, but that game does have some grinding. Would not recommend 4 though, because that one is a slog.

I did recently play some of the first Suikoden game. The plot is so-so but I never felt as though I was grinding, but I didn't get very far in. Apparently the second game is a huge improvement, and doesn't require playing the first, but I've not gotten around to playing it myself yet.

Wanna fight bullies online instead of muting players or just not play online if you are overly emotional being called a nigger faggot online.

Trust us guys. We're not like bullyhunters we are gonna end racism in gaming.

If you have at least one friend that isn't a boring fuck but also doesn't take things too seriously, Rocket League is great to play together. I've made a lot of fun memories in that game.
That game will never be the same. Rocket Labs was the greatest thing. The maps were so fucking neat.

Rip old rocket league

P.s. I started playing like 5 months after release then stopped a year or so after they introduced the crates into the game with keys like tf2 and other games do.

Bayonetta III will have an optional "Naive Angel Mode" which tones down the sexiness: https://twitter.com/platinumgames/status/1547216944470069248

I think this is the right way to do game censorship. Get the full raunch if and when you want it, but be able to tone it down if the parents/kids are in the room or you're playing in a busy airport or something.
I think this is mostly for streamers to use since they don't want to lose free promotion from them.
