I don't know, it just seemed more fun? There was the chance of getting something unexpectedly cheaper than you otherwise would. I guess it added an element of excitement and unpredictability?

Was playing Spacebase Startopia. The sequel to the classic game Startopia. It's bad.

It starts okay. Startopia minus the charm and funny writing. Startopia is full of dry wit. Spacebase Startopia is your typical glados style AI that insults you, and pop culture references. eg. The games opening is just a CG recreation of the Keanu Reeves "You're breathtaking!" E3 appearance. There's some nice quality of life features, and some changes that could be good or bad.

The game is fine until the AI opponents come into it, then the game devolves into trial and error. The only solution is to build specific things in a specific order because the enemy will rush you with super units and if you don't have super units to match, you're buggered. Sabotaging them doesn't slow them down so you're better off going all in on building units.

What's baffling to me is that this is a sequel to a PC classic put out by a major publisher, and there's little about the game online. A few lets plays with 300 views, some reviews that complain the game is too easy, and a single walkthrough that basically just lists the mission objectives. I recently played an anime waifu game made by a solo dev that has more steam reviews, videos, and discussion about it.
They took an incredible game, gutted all the charm and turned it into shit. See also Evil Genius 2

@Professor G. Raff People piss and moan about all the Troll fights in that game (I actually liked that the Bridge Keeper was a Troll that was born in the most unforgiving realm), but I actually got sick of fighting Baldur 30 times. I get the point, but I had much more fun fighting the Sons of Thor, the Dragon, and the Dark Elf King.

Oh, and general comment for anyone to read: Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex is the best Crash game (Warped is... meh), just like how Star Fox Adventures is the best Star Fox game. Oh, and Silent Hill 2 is mostly boring. I actually preferred 3, and 4: The Room.

Anyone else just go through their discovery que on Steam and refresh it when they’re bored?

I can’t help but feel bad when I see a little indie game made by one person or a small group of people that has passion put into it but only has like twenty or less reviews on it. Like, these individuals put the little free-time they have to try and make their own game and put their heart and soul into it and nobody talks about it or plays it. It’s pretty soul-crushing. If I had the money, I’d play every little indie dev’s passion project games.

I feel the same way about books that have barely any reads or reviews and are almost practically given away for free when I scroll through online bookstores, or when I drive past small businesses that never seem to have anyone in them ever. I know most people would say “well if they were good, they’d be making money,” but I can’t help but feel like they’re really small fish in a very large ocean, and I’m a sucker for the little fish. *sigh*

Any other losers watching the CS PGL Major? Opening swiss rounds started today.
Bunch of shit teams and the match ups will be coin flips due to BO1s being such a shit show, but to spice things up I put a single pound on each game to get me invested. call be bossmanjack, highrolling i know.

Russian line-up 9 Panda had to drop out due to last minute visa/travel issues. You'd think they'd have tried to sort this out months ago.

While I like those indie games in theory, in practice they offer me nothing. The joke of indies being all rogue-like pixel art metroidvanias in kind of true.

I watch a channel called Splatter Cat Gaming, he puts out a 30 minute or so first impressions of an indie game a day, but so many of them are early access open world crafting games or rogue likes.

Haven't watched in a while, especially since the switch to CS2 seemed to be rough. Tuned in now. Don't play the game myself, but it can be hype to watch sometimes.

Lead character designer of the Tales of series, Mutsumi Inomata, passed away on March 10 at age 63. Her death was announced just today by her sister.

After watching some YouTube videos I finally decided to buy Subnautica. I am not going to bother with Sub Zero because I heard it's not good. Plus, you have to play as a strong wahmen POC character. I'd rather not do that.

I plan to get Endless Ocean Luminous for the Switch as well. I wish that game had a PC port.

Is there a way to mod the wii without using letterbomb? I've noticed that they've replaced the red envelope with a fag flag envelope.

Doesn't matter, found one, I was just annoyed at the new envelope.

I don't buy on impulse, so never had that fun and excitement really. first thing I do when I see something that isn't a new release is feed it through isthereanydeal and consider my options, that's why flash sales don't really help. notifications aren't really an option either because with enough stuff on your wish/watchlist it turns into spam fast.

not discovery queue but next fest. it's one of the reasons I shill it that hard (and to propagate that there's still enjoyable vidya made, the biggest issue is finding it in the first place).
otoh that's just like it is. if you look at the staggering amount of games that get released on steam every day, a lot inevitably get drowned out. at least the game is released and people can buy it years down the line or discover it when it shows up in bundles etc., and not everyone wants to become a full-time dev so they might even be fine with the way it is (of course everyone likes money and being a big success, but that will always be the exception).

So, there's this old shooter called Warface I've decided to take another look at; looked at it a bit a few years back, didn't do much with it then, was curious if the game is really worth trying to get into now?

that's a name I haven't heard in almost a decade. remember it being somwhat ok, but also nothing that kept me in there. no idea of it's current state, but if it's still free there's no harm in trying - worst case you wasted a few hours.

Wow, did not know that was still around.

Top review on steam right now:
"My friend I play with said that if I post a review about this game and it gets 600 likes and 350 rewards, he'll buy me a RTX 4060 and 1kg of lemon. So I'll leave this here."

Fourth top review:
"Since nobody will read the reviews, I'll say in this review I'm gay and I love cross-dressing as a femboy."

Buyer beware!

Does Nier Automata still have DRM? It's not listed on the Steam store page any more, and the only posts I can find on the internet are game journos and Steam forum posts half a decade old.

I've not played it since well before the coof though, so no idea how it is now. Back then I used to play it on and off. The competitive play was typical f2p junk, but I remember the co-op being fun. Later missions demand a lot from you, basically being like Destiny raids, but I didn't have a full team and randos were useless.

Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM was removed from the Steam version on July 15, 2021
The wiki has a whole page dedicated to Denuvo, with lists of games that still have the DRM and the ones that are no longer protected.
The game has a funny disclaimer though:
The 2021 Steam patch updated the game and bundled all DLC (except the wallpapers) with the main depot. The 2017 DLC depots still exist as separate downloads, which means any DLC checked under the Steam's DLC tab will overwrite the 2021 files from the main depot. To ensure the game uses only the updated files, before downloading the game uncheck all DLCs except the wallpapers (if you already downloaded the game, uncheck DLCs and verify file integrity). After disabling the DLCs in Steam, they won't be enabled in-game even if the files are present, use Automata-LodMod to fix it.
