Are videogames for children?

I remember reading this article of a game parody of Squid Game that was popular in 2021 or 2022. I was crying of laughter at this image that they showed in the article.

Lmfao,

I remember that game, played it a few times it was pretty shitty. Only redeemable part though was the cancer voice chat. Half the lobby was pretending to be racist cops while the other half were minorities. It was pretty funny.

Which side are you on.

How the fuck do I even play games anymore? Particularly the online gaming aspect with friends?

Almost everyone I want to play with are:

- people who don't give a shit about the current climate of vidya (i.e the "we're having fun" morons who purchased the pozzed Microsoft version of minecraft)
- people who are content signing up new accounts just to play the next big thing (cattle who created RIOT/Hoyo accounts just to play Valorant/Genshin)
- people who keep chasing trends (*insert Content Warning/Helldivers 2 players who are unable to grasp the concept of old games*)

I'm getting almost no one to play and I'm just told "you have to change or otherwise no one will play with you".

Unfortunately you have to be satisfied with having a very low number of people who understand and agree with your position, and you have to accept that even in that sphere most people will be imbeciles on at least one of those points.

The problem is people are stupid.

I want to love Phantom Brigade, it has such potential to be an excellent game, but it just feels so slight. I've taken 5 of the, like.. 20+ provinces in the game and it already feels like I've seen everything the game has to show. It really needs more story beats, random events, and maybe fewer but longer battles. Oftentimes I'll get into a fight and be done within 2 turns, or like 4 minutes.

That was pretty much my exact thoughts on it when I played it near release. It feels like it has a great foundation, but then there's just so many aspects that need more, more polish, more variety. One of those titles that, in the old days, I'd be wishing for a big expansion pack or something.

I love the aesthetic and atmosphere and I'm a sucker for painting a map my color but yeah, there just needs to be more there. When the rare little story event happens I'm like "oh, cool!" but that's maybe once every 6-10 battles at this point.

Yeah am starting to feel that way too.

I think the reason why its starting to get old is because there is nothing new going on, it's the same shit over and over again it's either just:
  • Have Jaw Dropping graphics with RTX on
  • Have the same gameplay / mechanics that a billion fucking games did
  • No Soul
  • Slap Microtransactions on peoples face
  • Release in a buggy unplayable state
Those are one of the reasons that I can think to my head as to why new games just aren't fun anymore (In my opinion). I think game companies need to focus more on:
  • Having Insane Attention to detail
  • Having a memorable art style with characters, theme, and atmosphere
  • Try something new
  • Giving Players freedom
I think it's important that the game / world should recognize and respond to the players choices. The last game that I had fun playing was Amnesia: The Bunker by Frictional Games, the reason I had fun with that game was because of possibility's I can do. It was about giving players freedom on how to tackle the bunker, you could use the bolt cutters to disarm the traps, you can throw props around to disarm traps, you can take a heavy brick and throw it on a locked wooden door to break, you can burn dead bodies so that the rat's won't get in your way, or you can craft a torch to scare the rats away. It's giving players that freedom, with attention to detail, combined with the dark & hopeless art style, and great gameplay, that made it really fucking fun.

I miss the old days of video games.

Private servers for old games, like pretendo

There's something to be said to copying mechanics, though, IF you can do something new with them and not just fuck them up because you don't understand how they worked (as Cities: Skylines did). Stardew Valley became a huge success by just taking Harvest Moon, applying the features of its sequels before it went off the rails (and the Natsume/Marvelous split), with some modern/original touches (including modding support).

I don't know why I like Factorio so much. It took some time to get into and it wasn't really like SimCity 4 but somehow scratched that same itch.

I actually think Cities skylines II's mechanics are really good too and a big upgrade, education needs tweaking though. Shame the devs forgot the average gamer doesn't have access to a 20 ton quantum computer and that you actually have to optimize your models.

can you at least pretend to change so you can play with someone or just deal with it? worst that happens is you disagree with someone on something but thats really it

Maybe you should try to find communities for people that are more into the types of games you want to play? Can't hurt to expand your friend circle a bit if your current one is moving on from the types of games you want to play.

Sorry, being gay is not one of my options.

So Senua 2 is basically another walking sim I hear?

I never played the first because everything I saw from it was just that.
The first one is my favorite game of all time, though mainly because of the atmosphere and story. Don't mind more of the same
