They don't realize how much more goes into making a game good than just their part. It can be like George Lucas not realizing that he wasn't the only key element that made Star Wars good. It's like how John Carmack really never made a great game after Quake III, and even that game had some glaring weaknesses that got overlooked just because how incredibly slick it was compared to anything else.And there have been numerous times where devs that made a good game started their own studios, only for their newly made game(s) to flop and be not good, and they overly on the "from the makers of X game" as part of their marketing. Stormgate comes to mind as one example, being spun off by former Blizzard Entertainment devs, but I don't remember how many of their good devs were on that team.
