I'm very interested in this. Curious how they'll handle everything being soloable.. will it scale so you still have to put in a bit of effort, or will they just overtune players to the point of 1 shotting everything?
So there are a few changes that we know of, but the details are pretty sparce.

First, you pick 3 classes and are those 3 at the same time. So you can be say, a Shadowknight, a Cleric, and a Wizard. You get all the skills, abilities, etc of each -- so you'd have platemail, two handed weapons, life tap, lesser necromancy magic, wizard magic (and mana regen), and cleric heals. You'd also have all the AAs of each, which would mean you could take the Wizard AAs that increase spell power and crit rate and apply it to your Shadowknight's Lifetap. Any of the 560 combos are possible here, so you could do something crazy like do a Necro/Cleric/Druid or a Warrior/Monk/Bard. People are suggesting it's similar to "The Heroes Journey," a private server running on a custom emulator that had the triple class thing, although apparently it's being implemented closer to Final Fantasy 11, where you have to level each class independently. The first class you pick (your "primary") is race specific, but the other two "secondary" classes are unrestricted. There is a screenshot of a troll wearing robes -- and there are no cloth troll classes, normally. There is talk about needing to "unlock" the primary stuff, so there may be some sort of restriction of how your first class can be changed after the fact.

Second, gear can be merged together, both to power it up and to take abilities off gear and put it on other gear. The example I've heard people talk about on discord is taking a boss drop at the end of say, the first dungeon, merging it with itself over successive farming sessions until you get a +10 version, and using that to steamroll the next dungeon. Increasing the + apparently lowers the item's weight (essential for plate monks), increases it's stats, and increases it's damage. Another example someone pointed out would be to take some gear that has + to combat regeneration or a cast-on-hit (a "proc") effect that stuns or life drains the enemy, and put that on some better, faster gear. Some of those abilities are very powerful but on very slow or very weak weapons -- taking them and putting them on say, a dagger that's +10 and attacks at a breakneck speed would result in that proc firing off incredibly fast. Oh, and the higher the +, apparently the more slots for these modular procs, so it's entirely possible you could have a dagger with 2, 3, ... 10 procs all potentially firing off with each swing.

Third, the dungeons are all going to be instanced now, with a difficulty slider. Details aren't out yet if there will be an "easy mode" notch on the slider, or if it starts at default difficulty and goes up from there, but apparently the idea is that the higher the difficulty the better the drops. Now, we don't know what that means -- if it means like increased rare drop change, multiple drops, or if they're implementing some sort of Diablo-esque "loot rarity" system where you can get an uncommon or rare version of a drop, like a blue version of the boss's sword with some random procs and passives added. Dungeons are mandatory instanced apparently, but all zones can be instanced if you want, so if for example you want to work on your troll rep by creating an instance of the high elf town to kill, go nuts?

Partying is still a thing, as is raids, but it's different limits -- 4 person parties and 8 person (so 2 party) raids. Gone are the days of needing 40+ people to do something I guess. The goal is apparently to have the entire game be soloable if you just want to relax and do instanced dungeons, but I have to imagine partying up will speed things up immensely, or be needed to get over certain humps (e.g., going into a dungeon you can't quite do solo in a party to get gear drops so you can solo it).

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it when it releases since you seem pretty knowledgeable on the game. I missed the original EQ bus because I was playing FF11 on my fat PS2 so I have no context for it at all which is why the idea of being able to see what it has to offer at my own pace really appealing.

Oh, I played EQ but was never any good at it. I was a foreveralone and that extended to games, and EQ was not a solo friendly experience at all. And even then that was like 25 years ago.

The beta is "SOON" capitals included according to the discord, maybe next week.

It's basically EQ-again by a new team. It's having open betas and stuff recently, so, might be interesting. We're finally at the point the industry can support indie MMORPGs that aren't just Ultima Online server hacks -- but the AAA companies that should be making the next WOW or FF14 or what have you are now so risk adverse and filled with DEI adult daycare recipients that they can't do it.
 
Somebody asked about Tainted Grail: fall of Avalon a few pages back and I would recommend it. I've been playing it over a month or two and got about 40h in and haven't beat it yet. I just got to act 3 which is supposedly the weakest part of the game that was just improved, but from what Ive played the game is solid. If you're looking for something like Skyrim but improved it definitely fits the bill. Quests have decent rewards and the combat is pretty fun. I'm really enjoying the story, and when you're given options in a quest to choose it's not black and white good option bad option.
My biggest gripe was I finished the big quest with the armor crafting guild and over its course I got recipes to make a necklace, charm, and set of armor and that's it. That was a huge bummer because I really prefer going the route of 2h blacksmith Knight if I can.
Overall it's been a 7-8/10 experience and I would recommend getting it if you're looking for a RPG to play.

I read up on it and apparently they just randomly dropped a patch that made you deal 50% less damage and all enemies having +80% hp and called it a day.

I don't know anything about that but I've been playing it fine on my steam deck at 30fps, so if your computer isn't a complete toaster you should be fine.

I was really, really interested in it, but then I played the demo and the first enemies are like.. master difficulty Skyrim mobs. It takes 5 mins to kill a single zombie? I read up on it and apparently they just randomly dropped a patch that made you deal 50% less damage and all enemies having +80% hp and called it a day.
Maybe try it again, I started on the highest difficulty and at the start felt a little weak but after leveling and getting some gear I was able to hold my own and take things down pretty quickly.

I'm a sucker for summoning builds in rpgs, but other than Morrowind where you can create a 10-second three-elemental hit squad, few games offer any such liberties. This game seemingly lets you stack summons and what not. But as per any other game, performance is of more importance than literally anything else, cause we live in an era of fake frames and dogshit fog settings, and I don't recall it running very well. But yea, it does still tempt me for a second try which is saying something.

I watched a guy stream most of it and that main menu theme became a meme, only to realize it's an indie tune that they bought the rights to. Kinda odd.
 
What are the best singleplayer shooters to play on a toaster?
I played shit ton of Unreal Tournament https://www.epicgames.com/unrealtournament (1999 version) as a kid and even with bots it was fun experience a lot of maps and shit you can adjust to your liking.
And to add Swat4 (it has a mod that makes it more tacticall) older Cod games (pirate them Activison is asking absurd ammount for 10+y old games),STALKER games possibly Metro ones too

It also has free demo but MAN they really shouldv changed art direction or something since it looks like those shitty scam simulator games. (judging by screenshots and some gameplay i seen long ago)

God help anyone who enjoyed horror indie games, because this grifter is writing the scripts.

Alanah Pearce being involved in ANYTHING is enough to get me to avoid whatever production she's on.
 
Still enjoying Crimson Desert however.. it definitely has problems. Just a few that have gotten to me in my 15 or so hours so far.

  • The archery/shooting contest minigames are severely overtuned even after a "nerf" and are easily the hardest content in the entire game, bordering on impossible.
  • Bugs. Lots and lots of bugs. Most recent one had me operating a crane to lift a big stone.. except the crane claw wasn't opening far enough to go around the stone. I had to save and reload to fix it. Stuff like this happens a lot.
  • The other characters feel entirely pointless. They can't interact with story quests at all and you don't share skill points or gear, so any investments you make in them are just you weakening the main guy.
It's still fun, and I imagine I will get close to 100%ing the game if they fix the shooting contests, but it absolutely has its issues.

Windswept is a cute DKC style 2D platformer with nice movement mechanics.

Schrodinger's Cat Burgler is a 3D puzzle platformer a la Portal, plus you can give the cat cute hats, comes out this year and has a demo.

Pushing Glitchspankr again, not 'cute' but very funny and stupid first person platformer. Premise is a kid having to spank a virus named Spunk that's entered their copy of Big Booty Slapper 6. The humor alone is worth it imo, but it's surprisingly deep and charming for such a small team. Anyone who picks it up, please report back.

The first encounter > the second encounter > serious sam 2 > serious sam 3 > serious sam 4
Last time I tried playing serious sam 4 it ran like garbage but anything from serious sam 3 and before should run on just about anything nowadays
If you want Serious Sam but in Greece instead of Egypt, check out Will Rock. Idk where you can get it though as I don't think it's in any digital stores, probably only around on abandonware sites by now.

Edit: Also, important remark, you should play the original The First Encounter and The Second Encounter first, before playing the HD remakes of those two titles. While I like the HD remakes too, they change the games aesthetics in some ways and they don't have the funny inverted gravity rooms :(

Not all levels are this bad, but imo they butchered the Cathedral in TSE the worst. It looked so awesome and unique and they just made it dull gray ultra-realistic castles...

I think the Serious Sam Classics Revolution on Steam might be the way to play them? It's a remake/re-release using the same engine as the original games, everything should be visually and gameplay wise the same. I have not played it myself yet (only the originals and HD remakes), but I recall hearing good things about it.
