I've just finished rewatching the Steins;Gate anime and the exact moment the final episode's credits rolled I realized, "Why the fuck didn't I try the VN instead this time?"
Still had fun but damn did I feel like a moron.

You should be asking yourself that everytime you watch any anime based on a VN
Fair, although I rarely do. But S;G has been one of my favorite anime ever since I first saw it and I've been interested in the VN for a long time, and now I've inadvertently spoiled that experience for myself for a while again. Maybe I could play the S;G 0 VN.

Please read the S;G 0 VN. I haven't got to seeing the anime but with the way that the endings are structured in S;G 0, I'm sure it makes it hard to adapt it fully and do it justice.
S;G is the VERY VERY RARE example of an anime that does the VN justice, but certain scenes (mainly the seperate endings (mainly talking about Suzuha's) you can obtain and Nae) are missing from the anime and should be seen even after watching the anime.

I remember getting Time Traveler's ending first because I didn't get how the time travel mechanic works. It was pretty nightmarish.
The writers are completely different, instead of Maeda as usual they got r07, Romeo (Cross Channel) and a few others to write the routes.
It is one of my favourites by how the routes are different enough to make every playthrough feel fresh. A lot of VNs routes feel like retread.

I've grown a strong resentment and condemnation on erotica and lust within the last few months but still can't help but appreciate the writing on many of these visual novels.

Sayonara o Oshiete for example really does hit home to me when it comes to topics about psychological warfare and the feelings of impending doom. I know it leaves me dead inside with all the violence and erotica but otherwise it is quite the masterpiece because the writing is that strong in my opinion.

I was also tempted to play the game Pieta which has that same anime artist as the other game I mentioned.

These games I can recall are in such an extremely weird category I find hard to describe.

South Korean incel game, absolutely incredible:

Motesolo: No Girlfriend Since Birth, a first-person interactive movie, was created by Korean indie game developer INDICAVA INTERACTIVE. One late afternoon, you (the gamer) happen to overhear a conversation between a man and a woman at a café in Seoul and suddenly come up with a daring plan to jump into their perspectives and help them escape their lives as singles.
Coming November 30, 2023 to Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X

Bit the bullet and purchased Rewrite+ since its on sale on Steam (Little Busters will have to wait another day). The only thing of Rewrite I have touched was checking out some of the soundtrack (c'mon, it's Key, they have nice music), and the anime, and it was some of the most boring shit I had ever seen that I don't remember anything about it (8bit is just a terrible studio in general) and apparently that's also the general consensus. Yet I have heard nothing but praise for the visual novel, so one of these days, I'll find time to play it, just had to make sure I have it on hand for that.

Only knew it was on sale because I thought "Hey, has any other of Key's visual novels besides CLANNAD (which I have) been put up yet?" and I have some cash to spare, just not yet the time. (I haven't even touched Umineko past the first episode, started episode two but I was in the middle of wedding preparations and just hadn't found the time since.)

Rewrite is a bit of a different beast when it comes to Key games. Not to say it's bad, it's just more in the vein of a diet Type Moon game than a Jun Maeda cry-fest. A bit late to say this, but Summer Pockets probably fits what you're expecting more than Rewrite.
