It's absolutely worth at least playing the two main girl's routes in Extra and Unlimited. It adds depth to what you experience in Alternative. Anyone who says to skip Extra is just straight up wrong for lots of reasons that are also spoilery. I always like reading people's reactions to finishing the trilogy so I'll be interested to read what you think.

It's definitely one of those games where you'll be hurting yourself if you look up spoilers for Alternative so just be careful about that.
Thing is I'm enjoying extra, just meeting and hanging out with the characters. Each route seems to be about 7 hours, and you have a auto skip tool if you hit repeated content. I was promised 100 hours of content. I'm getting my 100 hours, and honestly I'm loving it so far.

I'm glad your enjoying it so far. Some people will tell you to skip right to Unlimited but I consider Extra to be mandatory for the full experience.
There's also no feeling like using your $1,500 gaming PC to play visual novels lol.
I'm running a 4080 with a custom water loop lol. I am way past 1500.

This was originally about Lord of the Rings but I was hit with a wave of inspiration.

The Chart.jpg

I tried a new visual novel called Love Elysium, which according to VNDB is EXCLUSIVELY on the Switch (whether or not that'll change is a different story). basically you and your friend (who you also have a crush on) Yuina, won tickets to an island where you take part as judges in a beauty contest. The catch is that the 3 entries are all Goddesses (Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite). You also have a gaming friend that texts you in between days to see how you're doing, and there's also a woman named Emiko who is the hostess of the entire thing.

Your character is a bit of a mystery as he suffers from amnesia that he wound up getting like a year or two ago, but he remembers most things. Because of it he's kind of a mess. As he spends the days on the island, he quickly learns about the women's true identities and eventually regains his memories... kinda. Emiko, who is revealed to be Eris, admits to being the one that gave you the amnesia. Apparently you and her met one day while she was in disguise and you couldn't shut up about Yuina so Eris got jealous. Emiko is also the gaming friend that texts you. The only choice you make that alters anything is who you pick for a winner, and you have 5 choices since you can even pick Emiko and Yuina. Picking Yuina is considered the better ending since you finally confessed to your crush. If you pick anyone else she winds up admitting she's jealous and stupid she didn't tell you about her feelings sooner.

  • Yuina starts off really focused about college, which technically she's being forced by her parents to do so, but she keeps denying it, and pretty much pulls the "no u" card anytime your character is critical of her or teases her.
  • Tomoe (a.k.a. Athena) is a no nonsense chick who's toned as fuck. Also happens to be the tallest of the bunch. Tomboyish haircut, and she's really into computers and working out
  • Haru (a.k.a. Hera) is pretty much sad for like most of the story until you come along to cheer her up (only because she had broken up with Zeus and he blew up the previous hotel they had before you and Yuina came along). IMO the most beautiful one of the bunch. Loves nature, which is why she hangs out in the garden for most of the time.
  • Aimi (a.k.a. Aphrodite) basically wants to jump your bones but she's a complete tease about it. Has a dress with fishes that sometimes swim on their own, and the dress turns entirely into water when she reveals her true self
  • Emiko (a.k.a. Eris) Not really much to say about her. She's got a whole mysterious vibe around her until she reveals herself to you, and she's the first one to do it, which pisses off the other goddesses. She calls herself a troll, and that's a pretty apt description given the events.
It's cute, but it leaves more to be desired, like a post story where you live your normal life with the goddes (or Yuina) or something. The game also has an artbook but as of typing this is not up on the eShop yet... if you go to try to view it, it'll say "unavailable" and kick you out.

I kinda want to get everyone's thoughts on Heaven Burns Red getting an international release. On the one hand, it's a Gacha RPG. On the other, Jun Maeda hasn't been this involved in a games script since Little Busters released nearly two decades ago. The JP fans that have been playing it for two years seem to be pretty happy with it, so I guess I'm tentatively excited.

I honestly just ignore gachas. Even if they might have a good story in there, the gacha elements always drag it down and ruin the pacing that it is not worth it over just a traditional VN. Best you can hope for is that it helps fund some actual VNs.

I'm an unabashed fan boy. So, I'll play through the first chapter when it comes out and report back. If I hate it, I'll let y'all know.

The Gacha genre and its consequences has been a disaster for JRPG enjoyers. Already more than 2 generations of gaming has been bereft of standard RPGs because every company thinks it can compete against GranBlue. It's like the effect of COD on the shooter genre, or the move to 3D for point and click games.

I've played a little over 10 Visual Novels in my lifetime though I only completed two (innocent Eyes and Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk). But I do have a morbid knowledge of various amounts of them ranging in quality. Like how I bought books in Russian and Spanish to help me with those languages, I would use many visual novels to help me with Japanese. My opinions on Visual Novels soured due to the overabundance of hypersexualized nukige games that serve no purpose but once in awhile I'll dig up a hidden gem. I have plans to run through games such as Saya no Uta and Subarashiki Hibi before I die and I still have yet to finish Sayonara o Oshiete and One ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~. Interesting thing is that learning Japanese has made me figure out the titles meanings more and more.

I tried reading a few JP only VNs and was surprised by how much I could understand with a history of just marinating in a ton of weeaboo bullshit and having a kana chart nearby.

I want to punch this guy's face like you wouldn't believe and I don't even know why
面が馬鹿だ
....he has a stupid face

Think I might try reading Fate raw just to get some material to work with than mindlessly "translating" manga raws for my Japanese. I heard the translation actually fucked with the prose way more than translations normally do, but that was ages ago.

I don't even play these types of games but I couldn't find any mention of this when I searched for it and this seems like the most relevant place to post it so here it is. Normally I wouldn't even give a shit but the title made me double take. And then I actually read it.
Clown World.png
The full article if you REALLY want to give them the click.

I feel like this is the only place I can sperg about this and not get faggots telling me how it's actually a good thing that you can get thrown in the slammer somewhere for spoiling a fucking glorified choose your own adventure game.
I can really feel that we're truly living in clown world after seeing this.

This just shouldn't even exist. If you don't want people spoiling your game then just don't fucking release it in the first place. Should I even have to explain why being able to legally punish people for posting videos or streaming a game a little too early shouldn't even exist? Like I'm not even talking about leaking a game early I'm talking just flat out you are fucking not allowed to post anything about a game online until a certain date or it's off to prison for your ass even if it's been legally released.

Nintendo used to do the same thing a long time ago, that's why there aren't a lot of old let's play videos of Nintendo games on Youtube, it isn't neither new nor unique to visual novels. The fact that it's so focused on the story makes it so that there's even more reason to do a broadcast embargo, as they are showing what's basically the entire product.

It would be like brodcasting a movie that you have the rights to while it is still on theatres, yeah, you may have the rights, but the stipulations were that those rights weren't effective until a later date

Where will the line be drawn then?
How long until they start doing this for other types of media or even games then?
Because you know they will eventually. Everyone likes to pretend slippery slope is not a real thing but there's a reason the saying " You give them an inch, they'll take a mile. " exists in the first place.

Honestly, allowing things that weren't really video games onto a platform for video games was our gravest mistake.
And the fact that they make a point to talk about how they hurt the creator's fee fees by not saying sorry is the funniest part to me.
Yeah man, I'm sure you're gonna be feeling real bad as you attempt to sue this random Joe Schmo into the dirt for daring to stream your """game""" online. What a fucking joke.

The wording in the article is just yellow press, so unless you come from the early 20th century, you shouldn't be shocked about it existong. And the thing is that such embargoes used to be more strict before, not less, so this happening isn't extraordinary either
