Finished Chapter 3 and the accompanying side story of Heaven Burns Red. I could kind of guess the twist that was coming once you started thinking about why the Seraphs weren't allowed to see dome residents or why there weren't any guys around (excusing the typical "muh harem gacha" excuse that chinese bugmen apparently enforce on their gachas now...). It was still really good and hit pretty hard. I wish western games were written this well.

I don't have anything against gachas and actually spend a good deal of time playing them, but I can't help but feel I'd rather know HBR is a finished VN story that I can play through like Utawarerumono. The year-long waits between story chapters is going to be so annoying that I wouldn't be surprised if I just decide to drop it in a month or two. That, and there's always the risk that it gets EOS'd because the author can't be bothered to figure out what to do and just sits on it until fans give up.

Still, it's definitely a VN first and a gacha second. The story is great, the music is great, and the battle system is better than some legit JRPGs I've played so whatever.

Is it worth waiting for an "offline" or "gacha-free" version of this game? It seems interesting and funny enough but I wouldn't be caught dead playing a gacha game.

I got Horrific Xanatorium on sale just because Kemco's other visual novel, Raging Loop, was really good. Guess I'll see if that was a fluke or not.

I wrote that game off based on commercials, interesting to know it's actually something interesting.

How often does that happen? I only know of one instance, Mega Man did it.

The one I wish this would happen to is FGO... but that'll never happen LMAO. We got a few anime from it, but the middle you have to play the gacha for
The story for FGO isn't really worth sitting through before Camelot. Wanna know what you need to know for ch 1-5? There's a fat asshole named Solomon, he makes massive evil dick towers called Demon Pillars. This somehow causes an end of the world scenario. Also, Jeanne Alter is cool, but she doesn't become a real character until after Orleans.

Unfortunately, it's not nearly as funny as you're hoping. The only good thing that happened in E Pluribus Unum is the introduction of Scathach as a character.

So far it's good with lots of events to fill in the time, but once those run out it's going to be a tough content draught. The good thing is that the dailies can be finished in 5 min, and there's a lot of free pulls so I feel the gacha won't be as noticeable few months down the line when you have enough resources, at least for story mode that's relatively easy.

I'm amazed it didn't happen yet considering much tougher projects like WOW was fully cracked by fans. My only guess why is that the people so obsessed with the game are also whales so they have vested interest not to let anyone have their fun.

I've wanted to make a video on clannad for a long time. Feel free to tell me if the self promotion is unwarranted.

This video is out, and has been for a while. I'm not posting it myself, as to keep as much distance between my KF and YT accounts as possible. But, if any of you guys are down for a scavenger hunt, there you go.

I won't go looking for it but if a suspiciously new Clannad video blows up and ends up in my recommended I'm gonna snitch :smug:

That's likely what's happening. The big fans will just tell you to play the game. From what I've heard of FGO, the actual gameplay is... grinding. Dated even. Like I love Fate. But damn, I'm not getting addicted to a lootbox simulator that is mediocre at best just to see the story

There are two ways to have fun in fgo. You chase big number, or you try and find interesting team synergies. You can build a scathach loop team to apply stun to a challenge boss every turn, or build a stall team with Medusa Lilly that just takes 400 damage from an NP and heal it off the next turn.

There are ways to make fun for yourself in fgo. But the optimal solution to any problem will almost always be two castorias and an AOE damage dealer that can boost their own NP charge gain.

I played it a few hours some years ago after global release (though I had to download an apk) and it looks like the usual for the genre - team building with minimal gameplay to make you think you have any real choice. It's probably the usual issue where getting a busted team makes gameplay automatic and the only good part is if you have a lot of passable characters to tune to different situations.

Pretty much. If you get Castoria, you've essentially won. You don't even need high rarity damage dealers after you've got her. You can no diff story fights with Gilles de Rais if you have her.

It sounds like that optimal solution costs a lot of gacha rolls lmao. It's what I expect though. It's a game from 2015 that has to run on basically every android device since then. It's going to be busted.

Usually the best plan is to wait for an anniversary and then make multiple burner accounts until you get a good starting rolls with all the extra gifts and sign in bonuses. Eventually you'll have a good team to coast through the game. It is a lot of time to burn on essentially not playing the game.
Ditto the idea is just to hang on your currency until there's a meta character and then go all in which defeats the entire fucking point of a large varied cast. It's extra bad in FGO because there's no pity.

This is what Nasu sold his soul for. He's making millions, but the pure VN soul of Type Moon is basically dead aside from Tsukihime. Truly sad. I just want another Fate VN. Do it with the Grand Order cast, idk, go nuts, just give me something

I want to argue that Witch on the Holy Night was good, but that's a remake of his older work, he basically stopped writing for anything besides FGO.

Gacha games really are the death of good game writers, like Yoko Taro (well... unique at least).
