Has anyone here played The Silver Case? I’m currently on chapter 2 and I want to know if it gets better on the latter chapters, I enjoy other Suda51 games like Killer7 but this one seems to be his most abstract work, I have no idea what is happening. I might just be a brainlet, I want to know if all the things that happen will get explained in the ending, or if it’s some David Lynch shit where you yourself need to decipher its meaning and connect all the pieces.
If you understood killer7 (without even having to read Hand in killer7) then Silver Case shouldn't be that far off, you've just finished chapter 1 of an ongoing investigation so I wouldn't expect you to really know whats going on that much anyway.

Am i the only one who always noticed that ryukishi seems to be one of those leftoids like
for example Shion and Keiichi mention Unit 731 out of nowhere in watanagashi.

Like it's not that i care about ryukishi's polítics but i feel like they came out of nowhere.

They were also a bit boring

The only thing progressive about ryukushi from an American progressives perspective would be how he writes his women. Ryukushi just seems to like WW2, most of his stories from what I've played feature it. In Umineko the Axis is portrayed sympathetically, with an important character being an outright fascist near the end of the game.

Started the Tsukihime remake. Got through the prologue and Day 1. Like it so far. Considering my main reference is the old 2003 anime (lol), I think it's doing pretty good

Considering the plot had human experimentation, bringing up one of the most infamous cases of it isn't very lefty.

There's also sakuranomori as a horror vn. It's nothing too special. But, the monster designs are really good, and the sound and music do a great job of building tension.
Will probably take at least a look, but I'm not actually that much into horror. Moege can be pretty fun depending on my mood though. I did try out Nikubami Honegishimi (neat manga) and it felt a bit similar to Spirit Hunter, so might just be Mystery + Horror, or just episodic mystery stuff. I definitely appreciate the recommendations I got. Haven't gotten too far in Midnight Collection, but it is pretty interesting so far.

Also, is there logic for which route you get in Steins;Gate? It has been a minute, but I remember when I played that I got Suzuha's ending and not completely understanding why.

Route changes are done depending on whether you send the d-mail at that moment or not. Most likely you thought it was just normal dialogue and clicked through it. That leads means making the choice of not sending the d-mail. The Suzuha choice is the first of these instances.
Honestly, I recommend just reading a guide for all the routes as the true route is achieved in a rather schizo way.

Next yuzusoft game is music themed. Can't wait for bocchi the rock, only you get to cure the lesbians of their disease. https://x.com/yuzusoft/status/1928375846819020921
First cover image. It's literally just legally distinct bocchi. Same hair colors and everything.

I remember not knowing about it and getting Suzuha bad end, which to be fair is the only really bad ending worthy of watching besides the other main girls.

> No Dorito hair.
Why even.

Ryu's story telling is influenced a lot by Japan's murky transition to democracy and its history of military coups. A lot of the references you see in his work is just allusions to that. Gundam is kinda like that too, and in fact there is an obvious gundam reference in Watanagashi, if I recall, after they play zombie tag. You kinda get where he's coming from with his political takes if you're aware of Gundam's themes.

On another note, this might be interesting for denpa/horror fans: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3689990/H9/ by Nagai Tomoyoshi (428 dev)

It's impossible to write anything profound about 1980s Japan without referencing WW2. That was the last era where the wartime generation held sway and it was also the decade when Hirohito died. Many of the adult characters in Higurashi and Umineko grew up in the aftermath of the war and would have experienced American occupation firsthand. The callbacks to WW2 aren't just him being really into WW2, but a deliberate attempt to ground his stories in the sociopolitical zeitgeist of the time they're set in.

Also I don't think he wrote the axis particularly sympathetically. Individual characters might be, but he seems to not particularly care for the greater aims of the axis during the war. His position definitely falls far to the left in Japan as a lot of his commentary on WW2 Japan in Higurashi ended up being censored from the console releases.

I mean, yeah. The antagonists of Higurashi are quite literally the descendants of those people. The Tokyo faction is sympathetic to Imperial Japan, and laments that they lost the war. Kinzo and Beatrice were just tangibly to the Axis. Kinzo did not join the war to defend his country, but to get away from his family. Beatrice, being related to Social Republic by family, didn't really have a choice in the matter and doesn't care much for the political stuff. Not even Takano cared for much for it. 07 writes tends to write character as victims of their circumstances.

I'd argue you could make a case Higurashi is pretty sympathetic to the Zengakuren considering stopping the dam, and the protesting style of Mion and Kei is reminiscent of their activities.

lol I was gonna reference the zengakuren in my post but I felt like it was already a little too autistic so I shied away. I tip my hat to you, fellow modern Japanese history enjoyer.

Finished part 2 of Kara no Shoujo. God damn, I thought it will be a short break like the first part was, but it was twice as long. While it is very good, unlike the first part that had a very fast pace and was a straight murder mystery, the second one takes it's time and is more of a conspiracy mystery, with the murder taking the backseat (as well as being the easiest part to solve). Overall recommend primarily for fun characters and a plot that is well constructed, though it is a bit too much of a case of everyone knows everyone.

Did anyone play Cartagra? I wonder if it's worth to play if before finishing off the trilogy.

Also continuing with Heaven Burns Red for 6 months now, there is no content draught with about 2 hours of a VN every two weeks. I had to play a couple of side stories back to back, and it is interesting to see the advancement in setup and execution as time goes on. The different teams feel much more cohesive, shame the gameplay is still serviceable at best.

I had assumed Cartagra was very important to Kara no Shoujo and had put off reading the full series until the remaster for it got translated.

Still hoping that HBR has a non-gacha version when the game inevitably goes EOS. It looks interesting and it seems like it's only getting better as time goes by.
