Voltron Fandom - Bury your gays!

Someone on reddit point out that the reason why some of the "leak" got DMCA'd is not because they're real, but maybe because how the "leaker" slapped the PROPERTY OF DREAMWORKS on it.

We have a Community Watch thread on the Voltron fandom and this clip still hasn't been brought up? For shame!

In all seriousness though, this is fucking golden. This bitch goes up live at a Voltron panel where hundreds of people are recording her, and she rants and goes on and on and on about how her favorite character isn't "fleshed out enough" or some stupid shit like that. She does this in front of (who I assume to be) some important writers or voice actors from the show. Pure schadenfreude.

There's just too damn many Voltron drama for any sane person to remember

Apologies, I'm not that interest in Voltron and mainly keeping up with the drama out of an interest in fandom drama in general. I've been compiling information about Shadam/the leaks largely through a second hand source. Thank you for the contribution of older but still juicy details.

There is supposed to be a staff interview in an hour, so perhaps they'll touch on this shitstorm. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcJmq0sNGN4

EDIT: Just watched the whole thing. Massive timewaster.

Guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes too high or anything, but they never even acknowledge that anything is wrong. The first 5 minutes or so were people asking if the leaks were going to be addressed, to the point where people were just saying 'LEAKS' 'LEAKS' 'LEAKS'. About 760 people were in the stream at its peak, but 60 viewers mysteriously disappeared once they introduced Mark, the mod. They said they were hosting a special episode tonight....to talk about the filler episode.

And then they fellated themselves over what a good job they did. On a filler episode. It was kind of exhausting, honestly, and after the first 10 minutes the buzz about the leaks died out for pointless shipping arguments. I decided to start talking in the chat about the leaks to confirm my suspicions and suddenly received this message:

Their silence on the whole thing is pretty suspicious, I assume if they were fake they would have said so. There's not much else to say, but I did get a chuckle out of this sperg who thinks its pedophilia to be attracted to people their age:

(This is what I get for checking the shipping thread first, comes in late with Starbucks, etc)

It's been a pretty spectacular meltdown over a bunch of leaks that were so obviously fake. The gay wedding ones had so much going against them, most notably a) the showrunners had to fight hard just to get a gay breakup canon in the show and b) Roy Fokker.

One Sheith shipper even threw her wholehearted belief into the leaks being real and "didn't want to discuss conspiracy theories of them being fake." "Don't you dare try to make me think logically about this or try to make me feel better, I wanna be upset!"

The fake Shiro wedding plus Allura apparently dying makes me think the whole thing was thrown together by rabid Klance shippers.

So I've been watching the new Voltron show on Netflix and to be honest, I've enjoyed it so far.

But then I get a look into what the hardcore fandom is like...the fuck is wrong with these people?

I don't know, but I just can't imagine being so invested in shipping (of any kind) and all the other things fans today obsess over. Its just weird to me.

So... fleshed out, translated from mad cow, she was unhappy cause a dude wasn't fucking another dude onscreen in a children's cartoon?

Also these rewrites, these fucking rewrites, man. If you're not happy with a series it's kinda presumptuous and probably fringing on copywrite laws to go "I'll make my own Voltron! With no giant robots and gay sex!" Just go make your own original series and stop piggybacking on someone else's work.

(I didn't know how much I needed megane prankster Shiro with Ryoji Kaji stubble.)

I like space opera, I like mecha, and I like Avatar: The Last Airbender, so of course I watch Voltron. As an action cartoon with a YA slant, it's enjoyable. Its best features are its gorgeous animation and the strength of the voice acting, which is really what makes the characters. The actors are so talented and have so much natural chemistry together that you can have a good time with the show even when the writing is dragging (which the main plot unfortunately does quite a bit - there is way, way too much rambling about "quintessence"). And the bottle episodes where they get lost in a space mall or play Dungeons and Dragons are very fun.

So naturally, this cheery, sunny, mostly upbeat Netflix action cartoon has the most disturbed fanbase of lost souls this side of his house at R'lyeh.

That seems to be a habit with fandoms. Is it a happy, innocent show? Fandom is dark and full of torture porn/incest/vore. Is it andark and cynical show? The fandom will be about coffee shop AUs/meet cutes/ having a family.

Compare and contrast this show and say, the old Hannibal fandom.

The fandom thinking it's gonna go the way of an anime or something with a Big Damn Wedding and everyone pairing off at the end amuses me to death. Only two mecha shows I can think of ended with either of the above: Code Geass with Ohgi/Viletta's wedding, and G Gundam with everyone paired off.

VLD was never about the romance. It was about the giant mechanical cats and their pilots overcoming their Issues.

I'll probably give it a watch at some point, but maybe only after it gets pulled off air and the fandom moves onto something else to cry about. Unfortunately most everything I end up liking either has a rabid fandom or is obscure enough to not have one at all, so I'm kind of glad I didn't start watching Voltron when it premiered. I had a feeling it would go the way of the rabid fandom, because Tumblr is nothing but purely obsessive over cartoons.

I don't know much about the show besides some things and the drama around the fandom but the show should end like this: Lance and Allura have a big kiss with slurps and everything and then Keith looks into the camera and says "What? Did you really think that Lance and I were gay for each other? This ain't Korra, you fucking retarded faggots (dabs)" Then the credits roll with the cast singing a song about how they hate minorities.

All these socially maladjusted, horny girls just can't bare the thought of their little ships sinking or even being rocked in any way....because then they can no longer comfortably imagine themselves as the meat in their gay ship sandwich.

Because that's what makes them so rabid for these ships - they want their little imaginary threesome to fantasize about while flicking their lonely beans and to take that away from them equates death, so why not threaten and harass people over it?
