I think the Sheith side started to get whiny and insecure when Adam came into existence. I remember a fic where pre-Kerb Keith was pining for Shiro and Adam was a smug asshole about it.

Er, I think Shiro is supposed to be half Japanese, half Swedish. In another "reality", his name is Sven and he has the accent to match. He's already interracial.

I am annoyed that this information is in any way important to anyone. It's almost like we've come full circle to be racist again.

Actually? I gotta throw Sheiths a bone here. The age gap between Shiro and Keith is blown vastly out of proportion because Keith knew Shiro when he was a kid in flashbacks.

Sorry for the confusion. Earlier in the thread I was under the impression Roy was a character from the original Voltron/Go Lion series, but he’s actually from Maccross which is indeed part of Robotech. I think Voltron and Macross has a cross over at some point? Hence the reference.

Pretty sure they’re protected under parody law though. The characters look similar, but aren’t the same.

I was under the impression he was 17, so that's where that came from. Still feels inappropriate, kinda, especially with the "knew you continuously since you were a kid" thing. But I'm not gay so what do I know about that?

(The wormhole age-acceleration thing did weird me out a bit because of Sheith shippers. It felt like an attempt to "fix" an inappropriate attraction by some kind of legalistic stunt because they realized how off that would be.)

The original had some character development, but was lighter on the space drama and heavier on the giant robots beating up giant robeasts. Every pilot still had their own personality and arcs, the villains had their motivates and drawbacks, and then there was a lot of space brawls. It was a good mix, like Robotech or original Gundam.

The original had its fandom but it was nothing close to this rabid.

They are getting it COMPLETELY wrong. Toei sold GoLion/Voltron Daiguger XV And Star Musketeer Bismarck/Saber Riders lock stock and barrel to World Events Productions (WEP) back in the 80’s. WEP owns it all. They are a family owned US entertainment company (Very nice people too. I’ve talked to some of them.) based out of St. Louis. A nice old school midwestern type family business. They are likely completely befuddled by these insane gay bromance shippers and the accompanying death threats.

The original Voltron took the Japanese Beast King goLion, Which is best described as “darker, more violent and more disturbed than Game of Thrones, with more incest and canibalism” and re edited it for American after school kids. So they pretty much chopped out any of the actual characterization. And most of the incest.

Kiwi’s might actually enjoy the unedited Japanese version, just for how fucked up it is.
