The intend here is to provide some sort of resistance. What they are doing isn't fixing the root issue, they are suppressing the symptom by providing a source of resistance/difficulty. About a month ago I had a suspicious contact come into my purview, and after joining a public instance with them and their also suspicious friends a couple of days ago, I witnessed them exchanging their collection of saved avatars. Most were the typical com-aesthetic, but this first one really caught my eye, especially since I have been seeing these types of avatars everywhere, all with upload dates in late November:

A new "com" group was created on November 30th.

There are already 185 members, with 17 being online at the time of reporting.
I did some looking into what com adjacent discordians think of VRChat com, and I found responses that pretty much summed it up as "corny."
There is no discord link as of now on the group page.

I've found a pattern where a lot of these people larping as edgy people with power have this username format:

An interesting one:
I found a user in the VR Mystery School world AFK looking at tarot cards, so I added them.
Later on I went down a small search to see what groups and people they may be connected to.
In turn, I found a group called "Suicide's sluts," and from thereon the connection was pretty easy to navigate.

I checked out a few discord links -- which also inevitably led me to discord servers that had "partner" channels which would eventually lead to a ton of /com servers.

This discord [gg/killings] was the nail in the coffin, as it was the server to finally lead me to /com affiliated discords. I took note of the YkRezzi guy because of his secure contact in bio (and group for advertising his business).

One thing that annoys me about these groups was the fact that they act as if their shitty avatars crashing people's games is in any way technically impressive. Literally anyone with some decent experience in Unity can do the same thing. Even their 'clients' while certainly more complex than the avatars are frankly less impressive than other game cheats too.

Unrelated but what's with all these furry streamers all sounding the same? I can't remember hearing any furry I've listened to sound different from someone else. I can immediatly see a few issues with that:
I don't really know how this persona system works, but maybe it might be completely possible for a particularly clever kid to just grab a older (18+)'s sibling/parent/whoever's id and just.... use that.
The Eurocrats are going to have a field day with this, and most likely going to cause wayy too many headaches for VRchat's lawyers to the degree where they do it US only or just backtrack.

ID verfication for anything online just, doesn't work, like, fundamentally it's flawed, and easily bypassable. Let me quickly explain that Persona is a pretty secure choice because in their standard G-ID process they do require a selfie of your face. Back in the days I had the pleasure of working with them this was manually verified by jeets but nowadays it might just be a rudimentary AI check. They are GDPR compliant and have customers in the EU.

VRC can query all information regardless what they claim in their PR-Video - but they don't store any personally identifying data themselves. This makes it a nice an easy way to near-globally verify the age and identity of all of your users without following and pesky laws yourself. On a positive note this also makes ban-evading for a lot of people impossible. On the downside this makes it very obvious and easy to target minors for bad actors. This alone is a useless gimmick to increase child safety.
