Fair point. Tbh the only negative feelings I have for what I see in this thread is from how disappointed I am that VRC has degraded THIS MUCH since launch. I kinda miss those Ugandan Knuckles days when it was new and people could just socialize and have fun with each other. It's a good thing Tower Unite filled that niche since, but I'm worried it'll fall down the same rabbit hole once VR support for it gets completed.

I know they probably mean well but this just reminds me of those certain people. You know the ones. The ones with thousands of hours on the game (or people who were lucky to not deal with the worst of the worst) that gets the most defensive of anyone who criticizes it, the playerbase, or the mere annoying things people are tired of seeing (such as people staring at mirrors for hours a day on their $1000 VR headset). You definitely see them seething on videos that exposes the predators of VRChat or mere trolling videos. They tend to complain why there's a lack of positive VRChat videos nowadays, too.
Just because you had a good experience in VRChat doesnt mean everyone else will. Not everyone's lucky in finding the "right communities". People are allowed to complain about their struggles and their decision of not touching the game again. Which is good. Saves them a lot of mental and psychological trouble. Who knows who they'll befriend there? You're more at risk of befriending a gooner or a groomer there than any other place. People are allowed to leave, and your experiences will never be like theirs, so it's best to not give them that hope that's best to be kept hidden under wraps.
Looking at the comments on that thread, some people are suggesting OP to join "event groups" or bring "irl friends". But I feel OP shouldn't have to do all that just to get a """"normal"""" experience in the game. They should be able to join public lobbies without having to see escaped mental asylum patients running amok. But at this point, being in private worlds is recommended if you don't want to deal with the worst of the worst.

The difference is rainstorm is that your chances of meeting an asylum patient is far higher on VRChat than irl by any means. The chances of meeting a weirdo during bowling and rock climbing has far lower chances. I can join either and the chances of me meeting a weirdo, gooner, or groomer is practically next to nothing. Meeting a weirdo irl is marginally different from meeting one online.
I also noticed on the thread that a lot of people are suggesting OP to join in their events/parties, including the good ol Pikapetey, the guy whose corgi-like dog avatar is frequently used in VRChat (at least a few years back).
I wonder why is that. A false sense of belonging and security? Promising them attention and friends when that's most likely not gonna be the case?
It is unfortunate that the only way to properly enjoy VRChat is just hanging out with friends in private. But if you have no friends, you're better off not touching VRChat or learning to explore it alone. Like what some of the comments say, VRChat isn't just made for socialization. If OP just played some of the games that are in VRChat or explored random scenery worlds, I feel that's a much safer option than interacting with who knows what.

honestly, i'm glad that a lot of the YouTube content on VRchat has lead to increased analysis and scrutiny.
im not even one of the older users but the fact i've personally engaged with and subsequently found out that several individuals I knew were Child Groomers was very troubling to me.
and they should have never made it available on android devices and quest standalone as the bar of entry being so low just allows more child exploitation and degeneracy to take place.
