I think because they cared about having actual vehicles in the game instead of inventing them like World of Tanks while having to put in new stuff to the game to keep it fresh. (games like this usually die without content updates, you need to grind for something) The downside is that the game is basically 2-3 games glued together due to the differences in performance and mechanics.
I get that, the need to constantly have new things. But I think they gave up on some long term retention by focusing more on new shinies rather than establishing a strong foundation of mechanics to build on later.

TBH, I do like the battle pass. It actually gives me rewards for screwing around in my WW2 lineups, rather than just pointlessly earn more SL. It's a shame the game can't keep me around on the mere merit of being fun to play.

That's my main problem with the genre of team based PvP vehicle grinders. You need a lot of commitments ie. grind and clan activity to actually make it engaging.
Beside that you have context-less death matches. Which is fine, because many people do like those but for me I just get bored of it after playing WT and WoT for a while.

I am glad to hear that they actually giving some love to the lover tiers. Shermans and stuff like that shouldn't be just a stepping stone.

The modern stuff was a mistake. No way should something like the BMP-1 be anywhere near WW2 designs. 6 second reload for lolpen HEAT? As if the Malyutka wasn't bad enough it gets the goddamn Konkurs for whatever dumb reason. No way should a 1974 ATGM be anywhere near a 1945 heavy tank like the T32.

I don't get why we just can't have a hard divide between WW2 and later. Everytime I jump in my super Pershing (the premium one), chances are I get stuck fighting pattons and the like.

"Muh queue times," says Gaijin in response to any changes to matchmaking. But given the absurdity of 9.3 MiG-21's they've proposed with their latest BR sheet that can and will face Korea-era jets I don't see any sanity coming to War Thunder anytime soon.

I used to play tank sim religiously but compounding factors with Gaijin's stupid decisions have sucked the enjoyment I used to be able to get out of that game mode.
Shame.

Ah, so you're one of the people who bought Hermann the German Sherman, aka the only reason ever to play Simulator.

I mained USA, so no. My days were mostly spent bullying wehraboos into submission with the Pershings/75mm Shermans in the lower tier events with a side of A-26 bombing and P-59.
Cold war used to be fun but then they added in helicopters and made is just a chore to play because the spawn bases are close enough that they literally take off and start lobbing ATGMs before most tanks can even clear out of their spawn proper, regardless of which side you play on.

I'll also say that ever since they basically shrunk RB maps down to basically nothing, that was another feather in sim's cap - the maps were actually large enough that you could get set up in positions without immediately being fired on.

C'mon man! How are Russian stabilizers supposed to do anything if some Pattons can sit on a ridgeline and have their line of approach all dialed in? Assuming of course that Gaijin left any 7 degree slopes for them to use for defilade. They've been amazingly capable at making slopes unusable for that, while also providing plenty of ridges and obstructions that are perfectly sized for a Soviet tank to hide behind.

Since Enlisted is war thunders younger brother i guess its worth mentioning it , anyone else been playing it? Quick run down its basically heroes and generals but you spawn with 3 to 6 AI squad mates who you can hot switch too at will. I find it pretty fun even if its a bit too grindy at times. The lack of AT for your average guy is my biggest issue , currently the bazooka and panzersherck aren't in game so that sucks. You can really see some of gaijins money grubbing habits coming through (The berlin CBT , The battlepass system , The grind) but for now its great.

I have played this for quite awhile. In the early beta days, had a break due to IRL stuff and then got back into it about 3-4 years ago, have played SRB, spent a lot of time playing Sim and Naval EC and have brought quite a few premiums, probs spent more on this shit of a game than all my other steam purchases combined.

Have ground out most of Germany ground/air/naval, USA ground 8.0 with the M901 and T54E1 A2D-1, Apache Ah-1G, UK up to 6.0 in tanks and air/naval, Japan naval/air and recently bought the USSR pack with T72AV Turms and Ka-50 to go with the BMP2M and Be-6. Have gotten a few funny kills with the Be-6 in high tier. But I fucking have grown to hate high tier. I like playing low to mid tiers, mostly using light tanks for the CAS scouting reduction, racking up caps, repair assists and memeing in the sky. BV238, Catalina, Stirling, Wellington in GRB. Playing reserve - lowtier and seal clubbing is also fun at times. I'll often just chase nubs down without even firing and wingclip them for a maneuver kill, which due to gaijin will often destroy my prop despite it not even touching.

The specs of the Challenger 2 MBT have been leaked by a War Thunder forum user in a desperate attempt to balance it for Gaijin.

From The Guardian:

"Classified details of the British Army’s main battle tank, Challenger 2, have been leaked online after a player in a tank battle video game disputed its accuracy.

The player, who claimed to have been a real life Challenger 2 tank commander and gunnery instructor, disputed the design of the tank in the popular combat video game “War Thunder”, arguing it needed changing. He claimed game designers had failed to “model it properly”.

To support his argument the player posted pages from the official Challenger 2 Army Equipment Support Publication – a manual and maintenance guide.

Excerpts from the documents, some of which were heavily redacted, appeared to show some documents had “UK RESTRICTED” label crossed out and a stamp of “UNCLASSIFIED” added, the website UK Defence Journal reported.

It said the MoD’s Defence Equipment and Support division had seen the documents and said they appeared “to be a genuine extract”. “It certainly has not been released under FOI (Freedom of Information) previously or considered for redacting.”

The player identified the documents as belonging to a tank in Tidworth garrison in Wiltshire, home barracks of the Royal Tank Regiment which operates Challenger 2 tanks.

The game operators have removed many of the posts containing the classified material after the sensitivity of the documents became clear.

A site spokesman said: “We make it very clear we will not handle any source material unless it is publicly available and fully declassified with the rights to prove that.”

The gaming website later posted a message saying the document remained classified. It said: “We have written confirmation from MoD that this document remains classified. By continuing to disseminate it you are in violation of the Official Secrets Act as stated by the warning on the cover of the document, an offence which can carry up to a 14-year prison sentence if prosecuted.

'Every time you post this you place us (International representatives of Gaijin), especially any UK citizens, in hot water as the warning states that unauthorised retention of a protected document is an offence.'"

Yeah this recent war thunder drama is probs the most autistic thing to happen online ever.

Better yet, just remove the Challenger 2 and everything else modern. Anyways, decided to participate in this BP season because I can't resist a new US heavy. God does that thing suck though lol. Being the same BR as a King Tiger is a sick joke that only whiner Germany players make possible.

GeRmaNy SufFerS! I personally hate how their complete lack of actual skill combined with Gaijin's dumb-ass k:d balancing has made half the German tree, well, well below what its proper BR should be. The Panther D at 5.7/5.3 AB/RB, the M48A2C at 7.3/7.0 despite having smoke grenades and a better drivetrain than the US M48A1 at 7.3/7.3...

Historically, the only documents Gajin have allowed on vehicle specs are the ones that came from the NKVD.

Gotta love Russian bias. Only took them how many years to admit they misread the 15 mph limit on the Sherman's vert stabs as 15kph? Two? I also remember when they hailed the NKVD as war heroes and switched national flag decals from free to eagles on account of Russians teamkilling anyone with a Ukrainian flag.

When you really think about all of this, if just any tank commander could gain possession of these documents, the shit wasn't that much of a secret to begin with.

Pretty much. Apparently they're old enough to drink in the USA by now so I'd imagine even NK got a copy somehow. I'm sure a few bottles of Laphroaig were enough to convince a Chally crewman to "lose" his copy at some point.
