Same with the YouTubers, they all suck, like 99% of Warhammer YouTubers would be servitored if we lived in 40k, they are that useless.
Pet peeve of mine I should put in an unpopular opinion thread, but you aren't owed a living if it's based on a flash in the pan fad, or is IP based.

Not 40k, but I'll connect. I'm seeing videos baaaawing about how the YouTube algorithm is killing DnD content. How DM advice and 5w review channels aren't getting the views they used to. The writing was on the wall for years, and now the fad has passed, they're pissing their pants about how it's not fair. You know who seems to be doing just fine? Retro RPG reviewers. Talking about how great 4e was or reviewing 90s CoC adventures. It is still limited because they will run out of old games and modules eventually.

In 40k terms, this is true too. Everybody knows GW is litigious but they do it anyway. They know 40k as a fad is slipping by as the success of things like SM2 and HH have passed. I can only speak for myself, but it sounds like "indie" games like Bolt Action, Quar, and Stargrave are the new hotness. Gunpla seems to be on the downswing, but still somewhat popular, while I usually hear good things about WGA, Northstar, Victrix, Perry, FireForge, and basically all the other third party companies out there. The 40k community at large poopoos these models are immaterial, while the haters proclaim them as the second coming of Christ.

If I was a 40k channel, I'd have started branching out years ago. And as the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree was 8 years ago, the second best time is right now. And no, sucking off Trench Crusade doesn't cut it.

Edit: The point of my little rant there is that, like DnD, GW is shitting the bed as a business. And like DnD, GW is relying on the momentum and good will generated by third parties. For DnD this was BG3, Stranger Things, and Critical Role. In GWs case is was SM2, Astartes, and HH. Not third party, but not mainline. YTers should've known that and seen the end of the line coming, so I find it hard to care when the train starts barreling off the end of a cliff demanding they are owed everyone else to fix it.

2024-2025 was just released

That's not much of a slip anywhere except up maybe, and that's still without the amazon show.

The problem with the "youtube content creators" is that there's too fucking many of them, and now there are dozens of AI slop lore channels in addition to people reading wiki pages, a handful that actually do read the books, everyone with a table in their basement can make a batrep channel, etc.

slowly but surely finishing my rubrics and painting in itself is very fun to me. I quickly lose track of time and currently just enjoy having some little guys to have on my desk. I'm going to tom sawyer my friends into building and painting some of this second pack of rubrics I got for cheap, so i'm hoping I can make some more gw customers from that. Would be great to not have to rely on a random game at the store when I finally have an army. That being said, I definitely need to get into this.
It’s great having a group

Me and my bro are EC and DG respectively, peak Eidolon and Mortarion hours over here.
The sisters of silence alone would body each and every one of them before the custodes even knew what was going on.

I'm pretty sure it's because perpetuals can take thousands of years to reincarnate and since he's technically on life support he isn't coming back for some time.
The Sisters were likley more useful during the Siege than the Custardes.

The savage horde was literally ripping Custodes apart mob-style.

@p1138 Disney: "We had a great year. We're sure The Last Jedi, Solo, and the M-She-U will do gangbusters as well."
Disney YouTubers: "Baaaaw! YouTube is killing our channels! Support the patreon! Super hero fatigue isn't real!"
The thing is, GW has been having "a great year" since 2016, and Disney hasn't seen a 27x increase in their stock value in that same span(they've actually seen a massive fall off for the past 4 years)
Screenshot 2025-07-30 115539.webp Screenshot 2025-07-30 115458.webp

The difference is that Disney as a whole is diverse enough that they can continually waste a half billion dollars per MCU movie and shrug because it barely affects them. Even just market cap alone they're what, 30x bigger than GW? People wonder why Disney can continually pump out shit and seem to not really care, it's because that shit is such a fraction of what the company is actually worth. Hell, it might even be reasonable to compare a big disney movie release to a GW army box that collects dust on shelves, neither is going to significantly impact the company in the short term and they'll make up for it elsewhere.

The youtube people have basically no relevance to disney, and possibly moreso to GW due to the difference in size of the companies and their IPs.

You also mentioned gunpla on a downswing, that's owned by bandai-namco, a company with videogame studios, a record label, merch for all sorts of shit, anime studios, etc. they too can afford something to not be doing so great. Even though they've managed to expand the p-bandai fomo product range, have 2 movies still due out based on existing stuff, the miniature game still isn't out, they're still pushing to expand into the UK, just had an anime series wrap up a month ago(and not all of the basic kits for that are even out yet) with a half dozen mangas announced while doing anniversary shit for gundam wing this year after having spent last year doing it for g-gundam, and then X up for next year. And that's all while they've got more chinese companies openly producing knock offs of their shit now than a decade ago.

YouTube is always fucking with their algorithm, trends come and go. This is nothing new and happens all the time. I used to love lore channels and battle reports and now I rarely watch any 40k content. It just doesn't interest me. I still read and want to play the game, but I guess once I got into the hobby myself I stopped needing to enjoy it by proxy. I'm sure other people simply move on to other things. There's only so much Warhammer you can sink your teeth into before you want something different. It's also late into 10th edition. When they announce the next release we'll see another upswing. If it's a good edition :optimistic: then you'll have people wanting to jump in who will need tutorials on how to play, or how to paint. By virtue of being a new video YouTube will push you in front of the millions of older painting videos anyways. These channels either need to wait out the dips, or branch out into other content.

LOL, fucking GW and their codex writers. Seriously? This gets literally just a sidebar?

And what even is that? Malcador didn't expect to get killed on the throne and was intending to go back to Titan one day and go "it was just a prank bro, I wrote it on a napkin from Olive Garden one day at dinner"?
It's the usual case where the answer ends up being the most mundane thing imaginable - "Our task is to keep the status quo".

Seriously, anyone in here who hasn't read Peter Fehervari's books, do it. He's one of my favorite BL authors and he does a really good job with Tau and Chaos. They've even recently released an omnibus of his stuff.

I think I made a mistake picking up Elemental Council. I don't really know what is going on, but I only finished the first chapter and I'm ready to put it down.

Chapter 1 is some random earth cast woman literally running out of a mission brief that she was supposed to give because she's scared the others will make fun of her and she won't be good enough.

I'm genuinely baffled that this is how they chose to introduce the character. I'm fine with weak characters, but show don't tell. Don't just dump all of your emotions on the reader at the start. Show me why they might be afraid or why they might believe they aren't good enough. Give me some context for the conflict other than just stating that this character is sad.

To be fair, I was the same at first as it is a bit over the top in terms of the emotional outlook, understand completely why people might give it up with how the first few chapters are, but I kept reading it and thought it was a decent read overall for the way it explored the interactions across the caste system and how the end turns out. As to that character's anxiousness, would say it's laid on thick at the beginning of the story for a couple of reasons, a-character development arc throughout novel which, b-also relates to how her own sect within her caste are on sort of last chance, on top of representing caste with other castes and c-the other characters that are introduced that are the other PoV's of other intercaste dynamics. Reasonable plot too, in terms of storyline with some ok twist and turns with some ok action scenes too.

Isn't Emperor a perpetual now? They need a retarded explanation why he hasn't resurrected yet.
Sufficient psychic power can kill perpetuals, Horus had effective infinite power, and was hitting the Emperor so hard some of his aspects died. As far we know, Horus punched the perpetual out of him.

The question is why the fuck he didnt gave the instructions to "kill me if needed" to the Custodes, who are custom made yes-men physically incapable of disagreeing with him

>Book called Fulgrim
>Fulgrim is barely in
>Book called The Silent King
>The Silent King is barely in

Do GW got a click bait division or something?

Also, I found something quite interesting, by the 3rd ed, Salamanders had both black and white members, before the Heresy stuff changed to the now pitch black, red eye form.

As someone who made it through the entire book up until the last chapter and then put it down, save yourself the time.

The only redeeming parts of the book in my eyes are the kroot, which I actually want to learn more about after reading, and watching the single space marine run laps around an entire fleet basically. I honestly think you'll like this book more if you're a space marine fan than a tau fan, in a "rooting for Michael Myers" type of way.

The biggest problem with the way the book is that the entire premise requires a very cunning and smart villain, as it's literally one guy leading a revolution against a fleet. You can only write a character as smart as yourself, which is why the author wrote the outcomes he wanted for the story, and then worked backwards making the rest of the cast feel idiotic in comparison.

I'll check the Chaos stuff since I hate the Tau conceptually.

Because he can't trust the Custodes to kill him on account on them being eternally loyal, and they aren't equipped for the likely case of him ascending as a god that would require something more than "throwing a Silent Sister on it and repeatedly stabbing it".

This is related to the Dark King. The Grey Knights are the anti-daemon taskforce. The greatest threat they can handle is the Emperor ascending to his role as the Dark King, the Chaos God of Ruin.

Raptor Kill Team rumoured/leaked.

Makes sense. With kill teams being rotated out they need some new chaos stuff and they’ve been leaning into flying models a lot with the new season… if they do release it with Night Lord bits then I may just dive into the KT3.0 finally…

Yeah I said I was out but I mean… come on Night Lord models.

So the the magic space marines are going to fight their way through the imperial palace full of anti magic women and bigger better space marines? Yeah ok...

I don't know about the silent king book, but basically ALL of the HH primarch books are like that. They have fuck all to do with the named guy on the cover and it's usually some lieutenant or captain involved in some shit and then the primarch shows up the save the day at the end. Even the Valdor book is barely about Valdor and more about one of the first high lords being an idiot and assuming they weren't basically just a puppet leadership under the emperor, who gets put in her place.

this is a pretty sensible opinion, tons of content styles got popular during the coof and had gangbuster success for relatively low amounts of effort, but now money is getting even more tighter, brands are shrinking from that brief boom after predicted disasters, and people are able to spend more and more time outside their goyslop hovels. Any creator whose made it from 2010 to today has some decent advice on how to weather changing trends, even with the coof being unprecedented, so its on people for being retarded enough to think shit will last forever, the fact that companies are not your friend and pretty nebulous by default is both a big factor and sometimes a great scapegoat for people who dont want to admit they were actually retarded

Look, you’re cool, you’re fly, but you’re an Undivided Legion. Two kits in as many years?

Never dream.

I speak from a place where my Wings of the Phoenician Raptor cult just wanted to have a good game, maybe a good time. But are relegated to banworld.
