Re: Da Warhammer shit

Fair enough. The biggest problem is that so many of thebmodels look cool. Also, do they come with painting guides or do I have to eyeball it?

Unfortunately non of the new books or sets come with any painting guides (thanks a lot GW you cheapskate assholes), but i can give you some beginner painting tips though

One is ALWAYS provide your models an undercoat, get the Citadel black undercoat spray, yes I know its expensive but its really worth it and always tilt the can upside down and spray out the recesses when your done spraying (otherwise you get a 10$ paperweight)

Thin your paints. this means water down your paints with water till its thin (but not to thin) this provides better coverage and is easier fix mistakes.

use the darkest shade of color as your base coat and work up gradually with blending and highlighting (though u dont have to do this right away if you just wanna an army rdy)

I would get some guidance from some old grizzled neck beards, they can probably help you better than me

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Fair enough. Looking around online, and found some good painting videos, turns out shading is not as hard as I thought it would be.

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Minor characters are also sold in bulk packs of I think about 20 or so, to get your army going.
I wouldn't shell out for anything fantastic to start with, but you'll need a decent captain too!

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Ok, so tomorrow I am going to go to the hobby shop and pick up some paints and maybe a squad or two to practice on.

Bought a paint set, now to try this shot when I get home.

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Yep. I want to get some textures for my base and maybe some metalics for the weapons. What else would I need?

I would get different shades of your primary colors for blending and highlights and brush's.

Dont bother getting GWs shit brushes you can get cheaper and better else wear and make sure you get a REALLY small brush for tiny details

Re: Da Warhammer shit

I picked up some brushes at Michaels, not the best but the seem to be of at least the quality of the ones GW sells.

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Thank you. Ill probably post my results when I get them done, if they arent too embaressing.

Re: Da Warhammer shit

When blending paints, do a tiny tiny tiny test batch first so you don't end up wasting paint.
Michaels sells decent quality brushes, but an art store would be your best bet; you're going to want to get a 0 for details for sure, and probably a 3 or 4 for larger area fills.
For base coating, I always just used matte black spray paint.

And after trying to do a base coat by hand, I will do this from now on.

Thats undercoating not base coating, unless black is his primary color for his scheme

and i only spray undercoating if i have a shit ton of models to do (other wise its a waste of spray)

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Right, undercoating. As for wasting, I don't see it that way as there's little chance of messing it up by using too much paint in one spot and losing details. That and its about 100x quicker than doing it by hand.
That said, I did generally do all my figures at the same time.

Re: Da Warhammer shit

I want to strip mine off and repaint them.
I have a red, gold black scheme goin on for them, since they're Khorne soldiers.

Re: Da Warhammer shit

Im trying to figure out what paints I need for the DV set.
