I'm just in it for the lore but I'm curious how do you people afford the tabletop game?

Shits expensive
By having a good job after studying hard.

This is somewhere over 1200-1500 dorrars. I think. It’s been a hot minute since I initially ordered them.

It's not too bad when you see it as something you spend 50 bucks on every couple of months. It's the initial hit that keeps most people out.

One of the great things about 40k is that, with a few exceptions, your models will never 'retire' like cards to in CTG's.
The squad of Space Marines you buy for 9th edition will still be a legal unit in future editions of the game.
I've met players who will use the old RT models from the 80's and they're a perfectly legal unit.

Getting your first army going has a higher upfront cost than something like Magic, but you can use that first army for years and years.

Unless your Firstborn Space Marine character crosses the rubicon like Helbrecht, Grimaldus, or The Emperor's Champion.
Or you need to get units like Primaris Sword Brethren because you can't use Firstborn Sword Brethren.
Then you need to get Impulsors to transport them because Primaris Marines are too big for Rhinos.

Eh, just pile 'em into a Thunderhawk or Stormbird.
If you've gotta transport models across the table you might as well use the biggest tool in the toolbox.

You ever get that moment where you strip an entire army to repaint them?

Im doing that to my Death Guard right now, I find to much people go with the typical green found a neat color scheme of black and green from a warband called the Glooming Lords seems like a nice scheme to try and I never see a lot of different Death Guard color schemes out there.

I'm doing the same thing with my Ultramarines.
They were the army I learned to paint on, and they're pretty rough looking. Some of the faces are just a blob of fleshtone paint, and look like they're from a Cronenberg movie.

I thought a 'Reto' inspired scheme with a super vibrant blue and those 'goblin green' bases would be pretty fun.
The trick is just sitting down and getting the work done, because I absolutely need some kind of deadline to stay motivated.

Over the summer, I bought a Warlord and got it built and painted in the span of 3-ish months for a gigantic, unlimited Apoc game.

Gonna be painting my guys up with the weeping legion scheme since the artwork looks awesome then I read through the fluff portion again and this is the guy in charge

Check out money bags over here.

Even then, slot the firstborn model on the appropriate base and there’s not much to complain about. Maybe in tournaments there might be some issues but just put the model on a rock to give it the same height.

2000 points might be the bar standard for an army. You can get a lot of games at 500, 1000, 1500 points. So you can build yourself up.

Price also depends on the faction way more.

Huh. Was peeking around and found the Wargame Exlcusive AdMech stuff on eBay -- sadly, still no non-pinup versions of the Skitarii Lieutenants, but they do have the Ranger torso/backpack proxies and the non-pinup female HQ. This was linked in the suggested stuff, though:

Cybernetic-looking Daemonette proxies. Complete with one breast bare and the other covered up. Sure beats whatever the hell they're doing with the official Slannesh line.

Video about women in wargaming. The “women” being interviewed is according to themselves 6’7
https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZT_6RxP2GvcWhat peak wargaming body looks like (tweet is not from the person being interviewed).

This is why gatekeeping your hobbies is a good thing. Gotta filter the trash, which to its credit GW does very well.

It’s hard to afford plastic army men when you gotta pay for your transition, hormones and accent surgeries.

Alot of people are cool and will let you borrow some of their models if they own the same army as you which is useful cus if you're building an army you'll know if you like the units ruleset. If you're not playing in a gw store you can also proxy units
