So, the Mk IV Space Marine Squad is under the "Sold Out Online" status in the Anglosphere except in UK.
That sucks since their my favorites to use for my Alpha Legion.
Hopefully, they'll come back.

Oh, hell, that better not be a permanent thing. I still need a couple boxes of those to round out my HH Fists.

Oh, don't be silly. Everyone knows Beakies are the armor the marines wore during the HH.
I mean, in fairness, the Fists ram-raided Mars at the outset of the Heresy and acquired some Mark VI that way, and my favorite traitor Legion (Alphas) also managed to get their hands on a bunch of beakie suits that fell off the back of a Thunderhawk, so it's not like having beakie squads in my armies is going to be a huge canon-breaker. I just really like the Mark IV design.

So, I tried my hand at painting warpfire for my Word Bearers' plasma weapons.
I couldn't get my hands on Hexwraith Flame, so I used Warp Lightning instead.
First layer was White Scar, then I applied the Warp Lightning (not too much or the shade would be too dark), used Caliban Green along the trimming, and finally used Moot Green to highlight in between the plasma coils. I'll admit it's not perfect, but warp energy is not perfect either lol.

Got pics?

On another note, I just made it through Abnett’s Eisenhorn novels and really enjoyed them! There’s a ton of 40k novelizations out there, does anybody have any recommendations? Is Abnett’s Horus Heresy series any good?

Gaunt's Ghosts (another Dan Abnett series) and Ciaphus Cain are the next beginner series to go to.
Also, the Horus Heresy novels should be something for those wanting know in depth about the most pivotal moment in the lore.
But it is quite the undertaking and still ongoing (though, we are near the ending).
I do recommend the Night Lords trilogy and Helsreach, considering they are among ADB's best works.
A personal favorite is Shroud of Night by Andy Clark. Very rarely does the reader get to experience a story from the Alpha Legion perspective in the 40K era, but Clark did a very good job with it.

The Heresy series is written by basically everyone in GW's author stable; the quality of individual installments varies from "awesome" to "waste of paper", but the books that are generally held to be the best are the first four (Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, Flight of the Eisenstein), Mechanicum, A Thousand Sons, Prospero Burns, Betrayer, Know No Fear, and Chris Wraight's White Scars duology (Scars and Path of Heaven). It's a 54 book series, not counting audio dramas and novellas, so unless you've got plenty of spare cash it's best to pick and choose.

I start with a white base, then lightly drybrush a green tone around the areas of the source of light, that there may be a hint of glow. Then a slightly desaturaded green shade feathered away from it, never painted on, because when you straight up stipple green on the effect it looks like nickelodeon gak just smeared all over.

54? Damn. I don’t think I’ve finished that many books in the last 3 years.

I’m big on continuity from one book to the next in a series. Or, more accurately, I don’t like skipping books in a series with strong continuity. Will I miss much by skipping the dross in the HH series?

Finally, I’ve always understood that what in-game knowledge of the Great Crusade and the HH that does exist in the 41st/42nd millennium is mostly myth and legend (“we used to have entire legions of just Baneblades, honest!”). What are peoples’ opinions on writing about this period from a more firsthand POV?

This is what you're missing:
<legion brother> is part of a crusading force stationed at <headquarters location>. He is a loyal marine who sometimes thinks things shouldn't be the way they are with the warmaster. One day, after a gruesome battle with <enemy>, brother marine experiences a prophetic dream about a winged figure clad in gold armor being stabbed by a blurry dark shadow. Then, <legion primarch> <prophecy of what will come to pass> and he discusses this with <side character>. Repeat for over fifty books.

There are some pretty good necron books, Infinite and the Divine is probably the best stand alone 40k book I've read in awhile and the first twice dead king is pretty good and books that got me invested in the necrons.
Dark imperium is a decent read and should give you a good idea of where the current imperium is at. Also get to see the blue boy scout depressed and livid at said current state so that's a plus.
I'm also partial to a few short stories that focus on Malcador but that's just me, still hoping he'll eventually get a full book one day though.

And speaking of books, it's not 40k but I just finished the first Gotrek and Felix book and it was really good and a good jumping off point for fantasy. I really enjoyed the fact that it was a bunch of loose interconnected quests/adventures since it lets you see more of the world then if they where stuck in one place the whole book and gives you the sense that this is just the duos life, endless wandering around trying to fill their doomed quest with short respites in-between.
I do have some complaints though, not all the stories land either by being a bit dumb (Gotrek getting amnesia) and some feeling a bit rushed and jumping around (8 peaks) and it kinda ends with no fan fare or payoff.
Might also wait a bit before picking up the the next book since I feel like they might blur together if I try to binge the series.

Opinions in the fanbase have been mixed. Some people have enjoyed the Heresy being more fleshed out, others miss the days when it was a semi-mythical event that didn't have much to it beyond "Horus rebels because Chaos and fucks the Imperium in the process". As far as skipping books goes, there are many different plot lines threaded throughout the series, so if you're a completionist you're gonna have a bad time. The best advice I saw on this was to pick the storylines that most interest you, read those books, then find summaries of everything else online so that you can keep up on the big plot beats. Skipping the absolute worst books, like Outcast Dead and Battle for the Abyss, isn't gonna hurt you that much, though.

I really enjoyed Dan Abnett's book Titanicus. It's a pretty awesome look at titan and skitarii warfare in an urban setting. I'm pretty sure it's a standalone book, too, so you don't really need to know anything about lore to get into it.

The new start collecting box really is geared to push players toward the Tervigon and Parasite of Mortex as their follow on purchases.

If GW is going to start selling FW miniatures (at even cheaper price) what's the point of the Forge World site now?

They aren't selling fw miniatures. They are selling new plastic kits of models that used to be resin. It's happened in several waves before.
They have FW listed on their site.
Unless of course this looks like Forge Worlds site to you.

Only reason to start doing this is because they eventually want to get rid of the Forge World site and keep everything under one site.
The only time the page mentions Forge World is for the rules.
