I get my paints at Michael's, because I generally refuse to pay Citadel prices.
I only use them when I absolutely have to. That's usually their shade line or their "technical" line. I can't find semi-transparent neon paints for the glow effect on necrons, plasma guns, etc. from other manufacturers that look good.

No Games Workshop store that wants to stay in business is going to ban you from using models that they no longer sell. They want you using GW models because that’s what they sell. They would rather have you play with an entire army of 1st edition space marines than a 3d printed or recasted army because you would be playing with a GW product. If Gabriel Seth or Pedro Kantor don’t have rules next edition, homebrew it.
DFW area collectively has the worst bunch of stores ever. They always close down several times a week and cannot keep to a timetable over the most weirdest shit. I do not know how they've stayed afloat thus far.

I shit you not the Frisco store closes because the guy "doesn't feel good" constantly on facebook. Garland is no better and they lcose just as frequently. Both are ban heavy they went insane banning people over mere bases that has nothing to do with models being sold.

They would have you play the current edition because while models may be used across editions, not the same for the rules.
I'm not speaking of stores I said players are being sweatlords over the newest and hottest thing is what is a detriment and defining differences between 40k/Battletech players. I probably wasn't that clear, my bad

And regarding the Tyranids, their basic troops would need a refresh as I think they are near 20 years old.
Tyranids don't show their age and only the fail cast models is what needs to be updated. The whole reason why I bought these models is because for them being so old, they look fantastic and every time I look at them, DoW2 feels hits me like a truck.

They won’t invalidate using older models, they will just probably be a bit bigger in size and have more dynamic poses.
There are a long list of former models, even entire armies that have been invalidated due to no model/no rules. Tf are you even on about?

Which one of you did the Trazyn/Orikan superchat on MATI just now?

The only armies that I can think of being no longer playable are Traitor Guard, Elysian Jump Troops, and all those sub factions from the Eye of Terror codex. Unless you are talking about some obscure army list from a White Dwarf.

Though it seems like the store managers around you are absolute faggots if they are going to complain about base sizes. Unless you can find a FLGS, get some of the people you play with, buy foldable tables, get some random crap lying around your home, and set up a time to play games. Easier said than done but anything is better than that kind of environment.

What even is the point of the primaris, other than "a slightly-different space marine that can beat up your space marine (also, cough up $50 for a new codex)"?
trademarked name, that's it.

I mean, there's a reason why 3rd party "pin-up" minis of female Commissars, Tau chicks, inquisitors, and tech-priests sell so well.
that's just the GW version of the anime figure, you probably won't see them on the table.

As a Grey Knight player, Im just glad that the baby carrier of doom is no longer the dumbest looking model

So you are basically saying you like the dread knight but want to look cool since everyone hates it? Why are Warhammer players so fucking spineless you like a model admit you like it no matter the mass opinion.

For instance, I like the invictor and Phobos primaris why should I care what others think? In fact I like primaris in general and I have a couple different chapters of them. Don’t let this place turn into /40kg/

Lore matters in 40k, unfortunately.
That's the beauty of Battletech, you can play in whatever Era and even use old clunker mechs in newer eras. not worry about characters geting written off the board etc.

Unfortunately finding people who want to play old 40k editions regularly is difficult at least here. everyone sweats over the latest $50 annual points book.

The problem is Lore dictates models and characters in 40k existing and since GW shot themselves in the foot with lolsuits creating "no model/no rules", in 10e onwards am I not allowed to use Gabriel Seth or Pedro Kantor anymore since they got rid of them (the models)? Will they be legend'd into obscurity for a few years then eventually they will stop making rules for them alongside with all the other Firstborns? Then what?

I have to drive 1:30 to the nearest GW shop, are they going to ban me for trying to proxy old ass Firstborn for Primaris since shops love to ban people over arbitrary corporate rules?

Apparently Nids are about to get a new facelift (why?) That makes potentially three armies that could be obsolete in the next five years for me and one isn't even painted yet.

These problems don't exist for Battletech and the price point difference is astronomically skewed.
If Catalyst decided to scrub the entire lore and model lines I'd be out sub $200 on models? When gw does it I'll be out $2000-4000?
I don’t understand the problem tyranids are an army that need an update.

This is ultimately why fantasy died it offered nothing to new and old players. New players didn’t want to deal with old ass models and old players had their armies secure no need to buy anything new.

Also still not gonna play Battletech :^)

No, I dislike what it looks like. I'd have much prefered some concept like the Invictor warsuit or something a bit more dreadnought-like such as the Contemptor. Right now, it looks dumb but not enough for to forego them

You'd be surprised actually, I've seen a few used, mostly fo like Tech Marines or Imperial guard.
I don't like the ones with bare titties (since fuck painting skin) but the non-porn ones by Wargame Exclusive / AlternativeMinis on Etsy are alright.

Same... team? Same seller sells a batch of AdMech Toros and Backpacks to take 1 GW box and extend it to 2:

Supposedly they look very nice alongside the GW Skitarii mixing them in with the others. Hoping they do similar stuff for other GW kits that include extra arms / weapons but not enough torsos/legs.

Edit: Specifically, they have backpacks built in, so you'd probably want to build the special weapons guys with GW torsos and legs and the special weapon backpack, then mix in the torsos with the rest. You'd have to built 1 squad of rangers 1 squad of Vanguard.

I do wonder if there was a way they could do something similar for say, Space Marine Torso/Legs/Backpacks. The thing is, they get away with these Skitarii extensions cause AdMech is still all but an NPC faction and they have coats that you can easily see them buttoning up. The Space Marines, for example, don't have coats. Maybe... Robes?

Sisters of Battle in nunnery outfits covering their power armor?

inside GW stores or anything official I mean, the redshirts would pop a vein because it's non-gw, non-lore AND sexist!
although that can happen with some secondary in any game store really.

GW will just spend the time and production line on more marines since they sell more. that's the downside of tying everything together, and not limited to GW really. it's one of the reasons I moved over where rules and models are separate entities, so I can get the best of both without interfering with each other. whatever lore I need I can just make up really, but most stuff comes with basic setting (I can just ignore if I want).

interestingly the model makers I've seen mostly do coomer stuff only on the side as a bonus, not as main focus (and then you dive into the hobby/amateur area and you get the equivalent of the average skyrim bimbo companion, which can still be fun to trigger people tho).

if you go r63, might as well go all out:

Midwinter Minis just had to pull out of a charity livestream due to being sad about "family issues"
I wonder if it's because his family doesn't want to see him and his new 23 year old girlfriend, after his now ex-wife took their twins and left because he was sleeping with said 23 year old.
Reminder that he moved the new girl into his house within days of his wife leaving.

How's the divorce going, Guy?
