I don't think of the imitation of subjects in the fantasy genre as "theft." Plagiarism to me is only where there's deliberate fraud, and the history of art is full of copying and derivative works.

I like the fantasy genre and I think it can be very imaginative, and I also like the scifi genre and I think it can be very imaginative as well. Rather than being "poor man's scifi" I think of fantasy vs scifi as more like apples vs oranges. Although with some media the distinction can be more or less blurred, like in really "soft scifi" such as Star Wars -- or WH40K.

Anyway and from what I understand, WHF came first and then WH40K came later as a sort of spinoff franchise which then grew to be far more successful than WHF.

I think the part about power weapons caring about density has been retconned for some time. Otherwise they would be useless as fuck against tanks.

But of course some writers just don't do the research, so it sometimes is dradged up.
One of them even says power weapons are just weapons infused with lightning which shock whatever they hit.

I heard somewhere that the WHF world was in the WH40K galaxy, but that was probably just fan speculation.

Also I take it you don't really like WHF. I don't know much about it myself. IIRC there's some human empire, orks are there, elves instead of Eldar, it's magic instead of psychic power, and the Chaos Gods are there.

At this point with Age of Sigmar, its impossible for Warhammer Fantasy and 40k to be in the same universe

for instance, Slaanesh got replaced with the Skaven god, The Horned Rat in Age of Sigmar, and there is nothing indicating this in the 40kverse. In fact, if Slaanesh suddenly lost his/her powers, there would be a massive shitstorm amongst the Chaos legions, Eldar and pyskers, actually pretty much the entire universe that

Also, there are no mention of the lizardmen in 40kverse, while in the fantasy verse, the Lizardmen's old ones have enough power to annoy the hell out of the chaos gods, the eldar in 40k would have at the least detected them

No I don't because it's honestly prity generic an forgettable, Fantasy in general is the poor man's sci-fi as it allows for a lot more hand waving an using the age old excuse of "a wizzard did it" but in sci-fi your forced to be more creative (having said that 40k has the warp did it, but it's not used as much).

It allows sub par writers like G RR Martin to get away with a lot of shit they wouldn't be able to in other generas, but sadly the 4000lb gorrila in the room happened to be Tolkin who some how made the fantasy genera respectable and became the biggest source of stolen content for years to come.

I don't think Warhammer Fantasy is that generic, at least compared to most fantasy settings nowadays, and at least in older editions

It really did feel like GW did their research on actual Medieval and Renaissance history and tried to make it work in a fantasy setting(if you know your history, you would be able to recgonize the armour styles, tactics and various other things that fit with mid 16th century Europe they're going for)

Now compare that to shitty wannabe warcraft clones where all it does is just throw some medieval stuff together and some bikini mail armor and there you go

So to get my guys used to the Only War system and to familiarize myself with it, I had them fight a fire team of Gue'vesa. It went hilariously, as they both kept missing each other in like the 80s-90s. We actually had to relog back into Roll20 since I swore the game was taking the piss at us. It did the trick though since they started to actually connect with each other.

The winners of that match were my guys with blowing off their pinky toes, but some lessons were learned:
1. I accidentally gave my Drop Troops Astartes level armor because I swapped weight with armor rating like a
2. I fucked up what Righteous Fury was since I was used to Dark Heresy 1.0. I fixed this later on and made it work.
3. My guys liked the little add-ons I did, which was where if you rolled really well on your actions, good things happened. Some bonuses I did included dodge penalties, improved damage for the next turn, and so on. I will keep that in my next run, along with the bad things that can happen (tm)
4. The critical damage table they give you is awesome.

are you planning to use the actual miniatures?(you can get Elysians pretty cheap on ebay now, or get recasts from sites like aliexpress, its even cheaper than buying the plastic kits from GW!)

I would imagine the roleplay aspects of Only War can get pretty complicated, if you're planning to go about it as if you're actual special forces, and using tactics and such as opposed to marines who just bash everything in

So, the Beastmen addition to the Total War Warhammer game just took the Humans from piss easy baby mode to actually difficult. Their main group loves shitting all over Reikland and usually burns that city bordering Brettonia to the ground by turn 20. Thankfully I figured out what minotaurs are weak too. It's the same answer to the Chaos invasion btw.

Gunpowder, and a lot of it. Handgunners, mortars, great cannons, and of course outriders armed with dueling pistols. Get fucked you fat cow bastards. Not so strong when 20lbs of cast iron crashes into your skull are you.

As to the renaissance influences, it's literally an alternate universe 16th century Europe. The human Empire is even essentially the Holy Roman Empire, complete with the complete breakdown of anything approaching stability or cohesiveness, as the Electors all hate each other and whoever of them got chosen as Emperor this time. Only difference is this empire arguably is actually Holy. At one point it was implied Sigmar was the missing Primarch, but that

Also MWG just did their first blood bowl game here, I think the rest of their content is behind paywalls though. Can't wait for Blood Bowl and the rest of the specalist games to come back, they, well actually all of the specialist games were better than the "big" games tbh. Except maybe Man o War, that one was kinda bleh, especially compared to Battlefleet. And Space Hulk could get dull after awhile.

But the persistant warband skirmish games were where it was fucking at. I still remember my warboss Mad Mork in Gorkamorka who lived with a rocket booster permanently embedded in his chest after a mad dok's serjery following a failed raid on a convoy. Bastard died the way he lived, screaming through blockades at 140mph on a flame spewing buggy.

For the record, don't take everything they say as gospel, they already fucked up in the first 10min. KOs don't award XP, has to be at least a game ending injury. Unless they accidentally called a "Badly Hurt" knocking out.

Well they might not be Imperial Guardsmen but I'm sure they could still qualify for the local PDF.

In their defense, most of them were using a gun they had no weapon training for, so they were mostly operating at a -20 penalty to everything... damned Munitorium issuing them for training due to lack of waste. The next session will probably go better just because of that alone, with the added bonus of the worst offenders of dicking with the squad's functioning being purged.

Still, this was the most whackadoo session I ran, and it's also the first time I had a player die. The fact it was gutbustingly hilarious was a bonus.

Like, you're playing as an IG squad who keeps getting sent to fight Orks...on planets that are not experiencing an Ork incursion. Or aren't even populated. However, since the Imperium is never wrong, you need to find some Orks to kill, or be court maritaled for failing the Imperium.
