It's really weird that you're insisting on lore precedent rather than the retcon precedent that was just set, as if existing lore hard-blocks more retcons or contrived writing in the future.

I suppose so. But on the flipside, fans can now write their own stories and it will be as valid as GW's lore, because GW doesn't give two flying shits about the lore. They never had. Hell, there was one time when the Ultramarines had half-Eldar bastards in their ranks; those were the old days when the Imperium's racism wasn't driven up to a ridiculous degreee just to hammer home a point.

I would ask what's so bad about the Custodians and why the Emperor's bodyguards shouldn't have combat rules in the first place, but you would just give some non-answer and maybe follow it with an insult if you can be assed.

I mean, the problem with them having combat rules, is that these guys are never supposed to leave Big Es side and defend the palace like crazy if we go by the logic of those who care about "da loooreee". But, apparently its all fine that they suddenly get to bounce around various planets and fight against other factions? But from the gameplay side, I dont like the Custodes because of how much bad BS they had due to their stand stuff.

They fought beside the Emperor during the Great Crusade so yes, it would make sense for them to have combat rules at least prior to the Emperor's ascension to the Golden Throne. Then Guillimon's return saw them assigned to the authority of Roboute and some of them became his bodyguards as well. Between the Emperor's ascension and Guillimon's return, they served the exact function you described.

There's also another situation you neglected to highlight, and that's if the Imperial Palace were ever invaded, then they would have to fight to defend the Emperor.

The fact that the Emperor's bodyguards weren't playable for so long was a crime. They should've had a greater role as far as I'm concerned. Hell, if they're the Big E's primary servants, then they should still be operating. Even if it's just in Terra, I'm sure there's tons of Imperial traitors, schemers that would muck up the system, or even Chaos cultists within the sacred world that would warrant a good decapitating. Maybe the Emperor's spirit would bid a few of the Custodes to do certain tasks around the galaxy, like say, killing some powerful enemy psyker, or leading a chapter of Space Marines to recover an important STC. Basically, have them do jobs that the Imperium ABSOLUTELY cannot fuck up. Kind of like how the Royal Guard worked in Star Wars where the Emperor would send them out to kill the odd Jedi or guard some important ally for the Emperor.

If it were up to me, I'd have the Custodes consider Terra to be their domain and have all the armed forces within the planet ultimately answer to them prior to Guilliman's return. Along with some paranoia over Space Marine defections to Chaos, they'd force every Space Marine not currently serving in the planetary garrison to surrender their weapons upon entering Terra's airspace. Say a group of Imperial Fists found something important and they're bringing it to Terra; the Custodes would send a man to confiscate their weapons and escort them to the Palace. They won't get their weapons back until they're on their way out.

Well, prior sure it makes sense if they were released when HH was announced and stuff. But, having combat ruled since 8th Edition, that seemed wonky at first, but also kinda makens sense. But, the later reasoning makes sense (well, with the Palace being invaded), but I could have sworn PapaSmurf had his own elite Bluesmurf guards or somethi

Agreed. The Custodes are too powerful of an asset to just keep on Terra while the Imperium slowly crumbles into collapse. That, and we already know that the Emperor can send messages and intervene in the case of Saint Celestine, so he'd also have the ability to tell one of the guards in his palace to fucking DO SOMETHING about the collapsing Imperium. If they were all going to just mope and whine and be useless, they should've killed themselves ages ago.

Keeping the Custodes in Terra doing nothing while the Imperium slowly collapses is like keeping the Jedi Order in Coruscant doing nothing while the Republic collapses. It's stupid.
