Morons who think 40K is based never looked at its history and the meanings behind its lore.
Exactly. They're the kind of people who sport basic-bitch leftist ideas like how religion makes us backwards (empirically wrong; the Church has spent fortunes supporting scientific research) or how the traditional conservatives are all xenophobes. (Also wrong; conservative writers like Tolkien hated Apartheid.)
Some of them did; they really loved the lore from 3rd-7th edition where it's portrayed that the Imperium was the "lesser evil" that is justified in its actions. But that was always a false interpretation of the lore.
I'm certain that if a Thatcherite or Reaganite walked into a GW store in the 80s, the people behind the counter would act as if an unwashed heathen entered the Temple of Jerusalem.
Kind of. It was somewhat based as the old lore was retconned when it solidified. I guess they are going to retcon it again. It was a proper and not false interpretation of the 3-7th editions. 1st edition was so different it was like a different universe all together.
GW had like one store at that time as well in their bumfuckville in Bongland.
The original satire did not sell. That's why it was retconned to begin with. GW tapped into all the angry rightwingers who didn't want leftist shit, but had money.
The fashy fans are gone now however, that goodwill spent, and now we'll see if GW's Wokehammer can take the Modern Audiences away from Disney and Soy Wars.
Will we get a Baby Ghazgkull and the Yarrick traveling the galaxy, worshipping Sister Katan's feet?
I am sure GW and Amazon were both happy. Amazon was thinking they Kangified another Chud palace, and GW was happy that millions of new Amazon fans would buy 5000 dollars worth of plastic crack and they can do away with the icky wehraboo neckbeards and magapede yikerinos for the Modern Audience.
I for one, since now only anime deserves my money, had spent some of my cash on nice steaks instead of western media.
