I've been looking at getting into Warmahordes with GW going bonkers on their prices. Biggest problem there that despite Mk IV looking better than III, the game is on hold now that Privateer Press got bought by Steamforge Games recently until they sort the logistics.

Announcement today. Might be of interest. They apparently either brought in the PP team working on MkIV or are at least keeping them employed until MkV can come out.

Tl;dr:

Their immediate plans are:
  • Strengthening the Supply Chain: Ensuring models (and everything else) are always available without interruption. This means not only a bunch of backend work on production facilities, inventory control, and logistics, but also collaborating with our distribution and retail partners worldwide to get Warmachine into your local gaming stores (FLGS).
  • Expanding the Game's Reach: We want to share this game with as many people as possible. That means implementing a solid marketing strategy to help more gamers discover (or rediscover) the Iron Kingdoms. Engaging with the community is crucial, as is building support through organised play, cool events, and narratives for gamers to enjoy. We want to make sure we’re present at key shows, running demos for everyone and anyone.

Then in the upcoming weeks they want to do specific posts on each of:
  • Meet the Team: Introducing key SFG team members, their backgrounds, and roles in this.
  • Community Engagement: Our plans for events and organised play, regular content, plus details on where to get news and hang out with us and other players.
  • Partnerships: Sharing more insights into the partnership between SFG and PP, and its benefits for the community and the game.
  • Shows and Events: Our planned attendance at various shows and events, plus more detail on organised play.
  • Commercial Plans: Plans around distribution and retail; what the supply chain looks like and how we’re changing it; more information on Legacy, Unlimited, and organised play; and more details on miniature production.
  • Manufacturing: Demystifying the pipeline, taking a closer look at the manufacturing process, and highlighting the key quality markers we’ll be tracking and improving.
  • Roadmap: Finally, sharing our high-level roadmap, including plans and timelines for the future.

And they have a new 2 player plastic intro box coming:
In the announcement, we shared a tease of some brand new models for Cygnar Storm Legion and Khador Winter Korps. These models will feature in a new 2-player Command Starter Set planned for release later this year!

More details on gameplay and story will follow, but here’s what I can share right now (without getting murdered by marketing):
  • This 2-player starter set will be manufactured in hard plastic (known as HIPS)
  • Because it’s for two players, this set includes two Warcasters, two Character Warjacks, two Character Solos, two Character Units and terrain all in one box, proving an ideal entry point into Warmachine

Shit like that is going to get me to permanently flip to Bolt Action. I know it’s a stereotype of guard fans to do so but man. GW continuing to take shits all over its customers sucks. Hopefully they revamp the Konflict 47 line with a bit more 40k grim darkness in 3rd edition and have more US Airborne be plastic instead of metal.
I'm only boltcurious as of now, any neat news come out related to the September update?

I'm not aware of Steamforged's deal, but I hope they dump the PP people as soon as possible. Honestly, I'd put the license on ice for a year and revamp from zero instead of continuing with MKIV... but we shall see, can't deny that new Caine and jacks are looking good and proper plastic is a hood start.

Has MKIV even gotten any sort of traction to bother sticking with it? My impression is that stores consider anything from PP to be pure poison.

From what I recall they got a new guy to work on Konflict 47 and if you get a starter set they’ll give you a QR code for a free updated rules list when 3rd edition drops. They brought in Andy Chambers who worked on on 40k, Necromunda, and Battlefleet Gothica rules… only thing that got me shaky is he wrote the story for Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty and is a big Dark Eldar fan.

Here’s Verasius Tylan, a jump pack praetor for my EC, nowhere near finished, I just put on a shade I mixed for my EC, I made some nuln oil brownish pinkish to make the pinks pop more. The energy tendrils are gonna be purple
IMG_3711.jpeg
Inspiration was this image. The recipe for this guy was the sword AOD Praetor, Dominion Zephon’s jump pack, Raptor pauldrons and sword, a Havoc head, the knives are from the Legionnairy Kill Team, the energy is from the AOS Nighthaunt ghosts and the “conducting” hand is from the Rubric marine kit.

Stopped by my FLGS. No Battletech, so I guess I'll be printing that stuff (even tho apparently Catalyst is trying to crack down on Battletech 3d printing as of last week).

Picked up two boxes of Custodes, cause my Custodes Grey Tide needs to be ~3000 points not 2000.

I got a new airbrush recently, and man, who knew that shit was actually a skill? I thought it was like Photoshop, just like, point and click. Nope. At least priming is a lot easier now.

I have an issue where there's not a single 40k faction I couldn't see myself collecting, so Kill Team in theory would be great for me. But boy howdy they don't make it appealing to collect. After ignoring Specialist Games forever it's weird seeing Necromunda and KT get... I won't say support, but, releases?

$60-75 USD for a single squad and what, an upgrade sprue, maybe? Are they not even shoving mandatory terrain in the boxes anymore? And they keep releasing new big box kits, does that mean there are new rulebooks and campaignbooks and the like you have to keep up with, or are the big box sets just some intro terrain + 2 small KTs?

Terrain was dropped as a cost-cutting measure, I guess they're trying to drive the point of you having to sub to warhammer+ for the splatbooks. In a brief moment of insanity, I thought they would actually not hike up the prices again as there's no need to add more crap to the KT box but boy was I wrong.

What needle width? Finer needles like 0.2 are better suited for small detail work than mass priming.

Ah it came with a 0.4 apparently. I'm still getting used to using it. I can't imagine painting anything but primer and basecoats on it, but we'll see how things go. I am probably going to swap the airbrush part out for a better one, like an iwata, later on; I primarily got the one I got cause it has a small compressor that's pretty quiet.

For KT you’ll see terrain show up in starter sets and sometimes expansions, maybe. You got a giant AC unit in Nemesis box. The (in stock not release) starter box just has scattered terrain with Kommandos and Vet Guard. Into the Dark had the gallowdark terrain with Imperial Navy and Koot. But there’s been plenty of boxes without it. Wouldn’t mind if there’s at least something for each box relevant to the theme they’re going for. Granted the Into the Dark starter was extremely well worth the price (I picked it up for less than $150 off Amazon at the time) Id like to see the individual boxes pick up different scatter terrain and the like related to the boxes but I know that small throwaway would boost a KT box to $100

Working on anything this weekend?
Some extra MDF 28mm bases I bought arrived and I’m trying to figure out how to use them. Checking all my old KT boxes I saved for ideas. Think I might do some scattered backpacks or weapons stacks for loot mission objectives. Maybe a few shrines with extra Vet Guard masks and lasguns.

Also any ideas on what I should use to obtain this level of stippling paint brush wise? I got my gallowdark terrain in a chaotic red primer and I’m planning on stippling over with rhinox hide, mournfang brown, and lead belcher.

It's going to take them months to do anything with that starter. They'll need to spend at least a year fixing PP's shitty 3d printing farm and generic models, they do have the sense to ditch the stupid "mk." part of the title, but even after all of that they've got the fix their issues that PP caused with distributors and retailers.

Also, warmahordes is one of the most pozzed games out there. They made a big deal out of the new khador character they showed off being a "she" and correcting pronoun usage. This is after having a bunch of public facing trannies running their discord and playtesting.

Around the 20 minute mark you can see how fucking chewed up the product arrives from their current production. At the 21 minute mark I spotted a layer issue. This would be fine if you're printing the shit on your own at home. This is not acceptable quality to be buying as a supposedly finished product.

It would be nice to see another large competitor to 40k. But I don't believe SFG can do it based off of their current library of crap, and PP's history of fail over the past decade.

Goat hair mop brushes(the short ones). That's all the artis opus dry brushes are, can find them at any decent art store or amazon without the bullshit "this is for miniature painters" markup.

Re-drybrushed the pink back onto the centre of the surfaces, applied some spirit stone to the eye lenses to get that red glow, glossed the leg surfaces, the cloth and the jump pack turbines cause they’re the only spots I can get some legion transfers on. Gotta finish the power field on the sword, apply some blood to the speared skull.

Very happy with this guy so far. Glad I didn’t go “I can fix him” with the new jump pack chaos lord.

Oh, I though only Bolt Action was getting a new edition in September with Cavatore at the helm, didn't know Konflict 47 was also getting some love. Don't have that clear of a vision of what Andy did or didn't do though, what were some of the Codex/Army Books he worked on?

How the mighty have fallen, from page 5 to this... and yeah, reading the articles, the faggot Matt Wilson (or I think it was him, someone from PP for sure) being giddy about telling us that the khador caster is not Strakhov but a "she" already made me think "well, this is starting poorly". Now the question is if it's a very ugly woman or an outright troon and if it's a troon, they won't get the attention they want.

The whole "America worships niggers" copy pasta will have to be updated to "America worships trannies"...

Working on anything this weekend?

Just started basecoating/wetblending lots of the base coat sections on the Great Unclean One proxy tonight. I made this much progress since 9pm central from primed plastic:

guo1.png

guo3.png

guo2.png

guo4.png

I painted this fucker quick and messy. It's almost done with all the base colors I want to lay down before I begin fine brushing, wet blending more and shading appropriately. I think drybrushing a very light green on the skin and doing a deep dark warplock bronze base coat for the scythe blade with some dark magic looking highlights is what I am going to do as final steps. I wanted to make this look more like a "horror" piece but of course it looks like a neon fucking cartoon villain. lol. Needs a lot more work. I tried to make the stitched cowl different shades of leather and think I darkened a few panels too much.

I'll work on it.

Remember the shades surrounding the wounds are messy and will be cleaned up with lots more coats of green flesh tones and grime. Nurgle's Rot and Blood for the Blood God tech paints will be used though I don't know where precisely yet. I really want to find a use for contrast black legion for some ROTLD Tarman-style black sludge...maybe next time I paint an Unclean One, because this dude is looking way too colorful.

Sure looks ghastly enough. This Unclean One looks like he might not have anything to show either way, being a slug and all.

That is fucking beautiful, honestly the proxies like this really put the GW Greater Daemons to shame, they’re too cartoony and not……… horrifying, but that’s a problem with the entire daemon range, it all needs to be redone.

I’ve been brainstorming a Keeper of Secrets that isn’t a cringing drag queen, a return to form, a mad god’s idea of perfection, not a faggot at a library.

I‘ve been looking at the Tyranid range, action figures, proxies, AoS kits, even knight kits to maybe pursue a Cyberdemon angle, you name it. The proxies I’ve seen are cool, though too many veer into coomslop, for a centrepiece I want something unique……. and male, I’m not going to show up to my local group of four with a titmonster.

it is so irritating that slaanesh is the god of beauty but all his servants look fucking ugly, not just normally but their aesthetics
i suppose it's too much to ask of GW to not be a bunch of pussies when it comes to portraying their beautiful degenerate sex rape god as a beautiful degenerate sex rape god

I‘ve been looking at the Tyranid range

I have been looking at Tyranids too, lately, as a fun, superfast paint project to just finish quickly after I am burnt out from tackling large detailed models. I finally "finished" all those grayscale+speedpainted Deathguard terminators, I will post some pics of those later when my phone is finished charging

But of course I am a perfectionist so I spent way longer on these than a normal speed paint. But Tyranids are legit some of the quickest and most fun guilty paint pleasures just because of how simple the schemes can be. With contrasts it's basically automatic. Add in a couple super fun tech paints like nurgle's rot and blood for the blood god and you can have some really neat looking bugs quick

eventually, I would love to own one of these tyranid titan proxies: a "Tyranid Queen" from Stationforge, apparently proxied for Heirophant:

queen.png

everyone tells me that the Heirophant allegedly sucks in tabletop, but I still don't even know how to play 40k lol

Going to eventually snag one of these along with some Hydralisk and Zergling sculpts to paint up some Starcraft zerg units. All that is way down the line though. For now I gotta finish what I have in front of me, I refuse to let my pile of shame get beyond 3 or 4 models, I get so depressed when that happens.

next in line for base coating today is that Lost Kingdom Lord of Change proxy I posted earlier, to at least get it 100% prepared for detail work. The Unclean One is finished being prepped and I wanna get the second largest unfinished piece I have up to the same speed today. The Turbodork colorshift paints are just out of the question. Three out of the 4 bottles I got simply will not mix up. All the pigment is like glued to the bottom and the medium inside is thick like cottage cheese. I don't wanna risk ruining the model with my planned route of colorshift wings, so it's back to the standard grisaille+contrast approach...at least this will complement Lost Kingdom's beautiful wing and feather sculpts much better than some dark opaque colorshift tones. You'll be able to see the detail. Starting the grayscale drybrushing right now which for this model is a lot more complicated than others. But it's gonna look so cool. The new materials are a combination of Citadel and HUGE Miniatures products now: contrast medium, aethermatic blue, flesh tearer's red, pink horror, leviadon blue, doomfire magenta, and fluorescent pink and red paints from HUGE to really make the wings pop.

I am a little nervous but I will absolutely be buying another one of these Lord of Change proxy sculpts again to try and paint a different way because they are just so pretty. So even if I absolutely destroy this model today I will be getting more of them. I won't though. :[

See as off the rails as Lord of Excess gets, I liked that Xantine wasn’t a speaker-faced freak, same with his treacherous champion, both are described as beautiful and handsome. Which the EC are a branch of charisma marines, in the Shadowsword or Baneblade novel a warband takes over a planet without a single shot, purely by being silver-tongued devils. They should look the part, champions and warlords at least.

The daemons have no excuse and those daemonettes are only worth it for the sheer amount of crab claws you get, the AoS Daughters of Khaine make much better daemonettes.

Sound advice, I could do an alternate head/torso for the Keeper of Secrets.

@Cats the Tyranid range revamp has a lot of good shit, looking at it and I’ve got so many ideas for Slaanesh daemons with a Geiger-influence.

seriously, is GW okay?
