I haven't played the Unification mod for Soulstorm in a while, give me a faction to play that isn't Tyranids. Also finally finished Titanicus and honestly...I regret putting it off for so long, now I have to finish reading Dark Harvest.
Cain wouldn't kill a Custodian singlehandedly. He'd just distract the banana long enough for Jurgen to get in there with the melta.
He'd distract him with his stench that even Nurgle would be proud of in order to line up the killing shot.
I still find it interesting at all of you guys paid gws full stop pay for paint I don't pay for anything that I can't fit in my pocket.
Of all the shit I've read from you, this is the funniest.
Why would I steal? I'm white.

With Irish you perish!

There is a gap between artistic worlds and real life, but that doesn't mean the setting shouldn't make sense to itself.

Female Custodes make no sense in universe. Same with the First Order in Disney Star Wars.

No missile strikes tacticool can be excused.
The Hydra Flak Tank fills the missile with more autocannon rounds than logistically possible.
The AT-AA (Hoth walker's smashed and slammed cousin with AA rocket pod) has a ... missile Jammer.
Space marine armour, at least some marks, has a very low emission profile, making it hard to pick up on sensors like heatseeking missiles.

It maybe a cop out but not totally out there.

Same for orbital bombardment. Warmaster Gothicus can bomb the planet, but there are shields, anti-ship defense guns, and orbital bombardment heavy enough to get through defenses won't leave you with much captured.

Same as why you don't just bomb the shit out of Naboo, a glorified rich people resort.

Imagine stealing Citadel paint pots like a fucking nigger instead of just buying the better and cheaper Vallejo paints :story:
Fuck, at the bare minimum at least steal other paint because it's better. I just can't imagine being a kleptomaniac gypsy needing to steal shit for a fucking hobby about painting plastic army men instead of just getting a fucking job.

anyone have some good articles on acrylic paint comparisons? I've always used citadel, but I've found their yellows and whites to be continually subpar. I've heard Vallejo is good, but I've seen a lot of the LGS' I go to starts to sell more Army Painter.
I think it's all about using the right tool for the right job, and no single paint brand is gonna be your golden ticket to perfection.
Take the artist paint pill and just buy Golden SoFlat or Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics, learn what a pigment is and how it actually works and then never be beholden to garbage ass hobby tax again. You WILL get a better end product than anyone is selling if you are willing to learn your pigments and mix your own stuff.
I used to just get FolkArt paints from Michael's and mix them, but have since discovered that I'm too impatient to waste time and money always trying to get the perfect shade.

I tend to use generic hobby store paints for neutral colors and Army Painter for primaries and secondaries.

What's the consensus on the slap-chop method around here? I know some painting purists think it's a crutch for scrubs. I've tried it a few times and wasn't impressed with the results, but still think it was a skill issue rather than anything with the technique itself.

It's an extremely soy-filled way to refer to pre-shading, but it's a reasonable and well-established technique, if a rather unforgiving one if you want especially good results. As you say, it comes down to skill issues: anyone can drybrush a little, slop on some Contrast (or equivalent) and call it a day, but it's a lot more effort to correct if something goes wrong than post-shading - you need to get just about everything right in one pass or you're back to the start.

It's a stupid name for what used to just be painting in grayscale(en grissaille) or priming using a zenithal highlight, and then using transparent paints and inks on top of that.
If you do the grayscale paintjob intentionally, it can look pretty fucking good, and of course it doesn't need GW contrast paint either, as you can just buy transparent paints and inks. There was also another name for it floating around for a bit... comic book blocking or something?

"slapchop" is just a weird community made up term for doing it like a lazy asshole. And yeah, like the poster above said, it really is just pre-shading.

It’s all about plausibility. There is a reason why people mocked Gabriel Angelos doing backflips in terminator armor. It is described as and looks bulky.

Though it is good that you brought up Star Wars because I think there is a great comparison between some of the old Star Wars lore and the introduction of female Custodes.

The concept of the Sith was always in the background, but it wasn’t until the 1990s and the early 2000s when actual lore and history of the Sith emerged. Darth, now a title. Sith, both a species and religion. All the red lightsaber-wielding villains Luke fought in the EU? Not Sith, because a guy named Darth Bane created the Rule of Two.

People were pissed at these changes to Star Wars lore then because it was new. Now, the female Custodes retcon is a bit different, not withstanding the culture war dynamics. But will female Custodes end up being accepted like the additions to the Sith? It remains to be seen.

For painting large batches of MSU it's the way to go. Although the name is a new thing, as was mentioned. This is just painting on grayscale using a diluted ink wash. I don't get the scrubs accusation, as it takes formidable skill to seamlessly make the results look beautiful. It's like the difference between an armor that was brush painted, and one that was airbrushed; the airbrushed will look great from a distance but if you did it wrong, it will jump out to you that "it was definitely airbrushed".

I think the problem is, that it's just a technique(and isn't even a new one) but since the contrast paints became a thing a lot of people use it incredibly poorly, while other people get offended that someone can now slap 5 colors on a space marine over and over again with little effort and not have it look like a 3 year old finger painted it. Same thing with morons complaining about using an airbrush being "cheating".

That said, even if someone's paintjob looks like shit, shitty contrast, shitty slapchop, shitty craftpaint, shitty airbrush, etc. I'd rather play against that than a pile of grey blobs.

It also works well even for small things. If you're not going to paint an entire mini doing "slapchop"(god I fucking hate that name), if you do a zenithal you can still grab a brown contrast style paint and knock out shit like holsters and sword grips and other crap like that without needing to put as much effort into painting leather or whatever.

Listened to the “Fulgrim” audiobook.

I forgot about Fulgrim’s habit of leaning over people and walking them over to that painting, I burst out laughing when he did it a second time to Vespasian. He’s so entertaining, he’s such a dick.

Or when they’re cornered by Eldar and Solomon/Saul are pointing out “We need to go they have a tank and outnumber us.”

Then Julius says something like, “The Eldar are an endangered species and do not have the numbers to face us,” to which Marius, Lucius (who’s more interested in playing with xeno swords), Eidolon and Fulgrim agree.

They then get swarmed and an avatar of Khaine joins the field. Peak 40k comedy.

Or the lady who kills a guy and uses his blood for paints. Lucius walks into her quarters, sees his cut up dead body, and indifferently asks her, "what are you doing?"

Watching Fulgrim and the EC's Rekieta-esque slide into debauched lunacy is a riot.

Fulgrim really hams it up in Angel Exterminatus. "No, Perturabo, I won't just tell you what I came here for. I want you to build me a massive theater so I can make an elaborate performance about it!"

Not just blood, everything.

Lucius, of all people finding her and his response is hilarious when she claims rape (she at this point is a scarred, smelly ghoul of a woman)

He, for the only time in his life is something resembling horrified and tries to help, “I’ll get a servitor to dispose of the body and we can forget about it. Bastard got what he deserved.”

Her internal monologue is euphoric at lying to an Astartes and hateful for him thinking rape can be forgotten so easily. Then she gets him onto cutting and he goes apeshit on his face. I also forgot that it’s implied Fulgrim fucks her corpse, that made me rewind the audio because I forgot how fucking deranged 40k could be back before the rot.

Lucius picking up an Eldar sword and playing with it is funny too, Saul practically tells him, “Stop playing with alien weapons, you want Eidolon to get mad again?”

The EC’s constant jumping around from system to system (subplots) is hilariously also how they went so fucking nuts so quick, literally stuck on their ships with nothing to do but take their sergeant’s orders drugs, get mandated enhancements and indulge in “culture” which this book is also a good showing why marines and humans are largely segregated

That Terran official having an audience with bath salts, only wearing a loincloth Fulgrim is still a classic, that’s the closest Fulgrim comes to Rackets, that scene is so comically uncomfortable and Fulgrim moodswings every two or so paragraphs.

Slapchop is great for models where:

1. Dont have too much intricate detail
2. You have a lot of them.

Normally models have too much detail to do effectively but Im going to do the technique for my arco-flagellants because i have 30 of them so they fit both criteria.

1. Prime Wraithbone (or Grey Seer)
2. Zenithal White Scar (or a white in general)
3. Apply Contrast Paint.

In this case Black Templar, Basilicanum Grey and Guilliman Flesh. Boom, 30 models just got 99% done in almost no time.

Whenever I primed for zenithal Id go black. Then Id build up from a dark, maybe mechanicum grey to almost a bone white at the highest points. Do you have any examples of starting with a lighter prime on a zenithal?

It is worse. Sith being an order and Sith and Dark Jedi being a linked, somewhat nebular concept isn't that big of a stretch. I do agree Bane was dumb in doing that, but it isn't inexplicable. Jedi falling to Dark Jedi status and being converts and renegades makes sense. Their comparison is close to Loyalist marines, renegades and actual traitor Legions. The renegades often end up serving the OG traitors. Plus the old Sith lore was exactly that, new historical info. It was like the Horus heresy series introducing the Mournival, or Saul Tarvitz, and it had the Imperial Truth instead of the Imperial Creed, as an out of left field fuckup, something that was much more jarring than Exar Kun.

Female custodes are simply illogical. The Imperium doesn't need them. There are more than enough men, they add nothing to the Custodes, and making them would be an utter waste of resources even if it was possible.
Closest Star Wars comes to it is the infamous bomber from the Last Jedi, because Rian Johnson didn't watch the original movies and proton torpedoes were something he missed. Where the bomber needs to fly on top of the spaceship it attacks, and drop its non powered gravity using bomb on it WW1 style, in space.

I only had to google -Stupid star wars bomber- to get this:

So they’re actually just doing all the demon Primarchs over again in resin.

Interesting priorities considering some legions still don’t have Praetors and most of the range has been sold out for months.

New model Angron sucks btw, he should look like Diablo had a baby with Doomsday, not……. skinny and with ADB’s cringe girlboss in tow.

Man, I cannot imagine how much of a bitch it's gonna be to paint for someone.

It's horrible, they took away all of his demonic aspect, I don't understand how people can love this. They already made Fulgrim look like a worm an now this, these new designs suck.

(I've calmed down now, apparently it's the 30k angron, but it's still horrible.)
