The reason that female space marines will never exist is because GW cant paint a female face to save their fucking lives. Look at the new Lotara model. Yeesh. There's an ever-present threat that they'll make a mini (random HQ seems to be their go to for this kind of thing -- but they had made one just before this, and it is most decidedly male, which plays into the "this wasn't intended by GW's lore team" thing) or do some art or what have you. But what I could most likely see is the lispy queers at Black Library tossing female Custodes in everything they can just to try and solidify their "win" over the "chuds," that fits the standard entryism playbook. That would be a ~1-3 year delay, so we wouldn't see that content until 11th anyway, so...

Lets also not forget HH3.0 is coming. They could also shove a Female Custodes in there, which would counteract the whole "there have always been FemStodes" thing. But the rumor is the HH guys (who are far more autistic than the BL and 40k and AoS guys) were fucking furious because due to the weird little segregation thing they have going on inside of GW, the Custodes are a "HH thing" and the lore being changed by the 40k guys without discussing it supposedly didn't go over very well.

You'd think, but there are a few channels that specialize in it. Also depends on where you live, if you moved back in with your parents as a grown ass adult, and so on. Gamza livestreams, had some deals with 3d printer companies for a bit, had some basic ass looking STLs on his patreon as well(looks like he recently deleted a couple years worth of videos and the livestream vods again leaving just the 3d printing stuff). The tranny discourse miniatures did venture into making a D&D hate channel as well, so he's got two revenue streams to complain with about shit that he never does. That said, it's fucking obnoxious to see the same thumbnails, damn near the same video descriptions, repeatedly no matter how many times to click on "do not recommend this channel" or however its worded.

Sure but if your goal is to make money off slop you could make more money covering something more popular with the same amount of effort.

No one ever accused them of being intelligent. I assume they have a day job since I doubt anyone is going to actually support themselves off of 100k views a month and a whole $200 patreon. Or like @Judge Dredd pointed out, do the bare minimum daily. Northern Exile isn't a GW hate channel(criticizing GW, and having all of your content dedicated to bitching about GW are two different things) and just reads garbage over 40k video game footage. Hell, maybe the channels are finally dying off because the people running them realized they're a waste of time? Great.

That really is the best case scenario. Their excuse for the "ultimate guide" was that it was written separately from the codex, with that portion written months earlier. There was clearly not a coordinated effort for femstodes at GW(the model the faction got being another example pointed out in this thread)

I'm still convinced that whoever wrote the Custodes codex went rogue and nobody outside the rules team noticed until it was already on its way to the printers.

Its worse than that. They can't even sculpt them. Or can they? If you go through their catalogue you get the impression they're more reluctant to make feminine-looking human characters than they are non-human ones. The paint jobs don't help, especially when the quality of paint job varies wildly these days (just look at some of Forge World's offerings), but there is definitely something going on there when it comes to female sculpts.

They're capable of doing them. Just look at the sculpts for The Lady Elisse or the Handmaiden of The Lady. Perfectly feminine looking. Even fucking Goldberry is more feminine looking than any of the Sisters of Battle. They don't have a problem making female xenos characters either, eg the Genestealer Cults Magus, arguably the best female sculpt in the entirety of 40K or anything adjacent (even with the Klingon head). So why do they struggle so much with human female sculpts?

The closest you have to respectable ones are Sisters of Silence (even with the masks). The worst offenders by far are the Sisters of Battle. You have the Canoness that looks like Terry Crews in drag (even the alternative head/paint job looks rough), the Repentia that look like a troon hockey team and the heads across the entire range just look awful. There are outliers like some of the Novitiates, but it doesn't look good.

This is why I think the kerfuffle of female space marines or Custodes is moot, because by the time GW have got their hands on them they're going to look like men anyway.

I really fail to see what the difference is between custodes and space marines. They're just superer super soldiers. I get they're better, faster, stronger, and have the best toys but they really are just space marines but better.

They’re individually handcrafted works of art down to the molecular level by the Emperor to be his companions. It’s vastly different and unknown process which is why they could handwave all the lore, change wikis and quotes from BigE explaining they’re all men and a brotherhood.

Am I just not getting the point of EC or something? Maybe I'll look to paint regular csm or something the classic scheme.

They've definitely been retooled to have a melee focus, which tbf tracks with their Heresy schtick of being awesome swordsmen. They've still got the eagle shoulder pads in the box, I was just painting one last night. Speaking of painting: do what you want, they're your dudes. My Infractors are getting the classic purple and gold scheme, Tormentors will probably resemble the box art, and my Noise Marines are getting drenched in the brightest, most saturated colors I can find, because they're sense freaks and they need the bright clashing colors to stimulate their warpdust-fried synapses. There are hundreds of EC warbands out there, so you can always make up whatever color scheme you want and justify it that way.

This. Lumping them in with space marines does them a great disservice. Part of me wishes they never really hit the tabletop. Whenever they crank out a miniature for something they always remove the mystique and have to adjust their power level to fit into the framework of the game.

GW has been selling their 40k color scheme as being pink for quite a while now, but if you want to paint them as 30k purple, just do it.

My thoughts on Steel Legion. I think why GW is retconning Steel Legion away is 1. They don't have any new plastics and modern GW won't write lore or rules for things that don't currently have official kits. 2. Steel Legion are considered "problematic" by BluSky/Twitter/Reddit for looking like nazis so GW will never touch them again for the foreseeable future.

Sure, the faceless automaton thing and them being based more on WW1 than 2 gives them some leeway. But from what ive read, The Steel Legion's internal shit isnt even more "muh fashy" than the average guard, and with a tiny re sculpt they could easily just base them more on US GIs, to get people to stop bitching about the greatcoats and helmets. Which the Krieg already have, i digress.

Agreed but I still use the broke Custodes rules for kill team as a house rule just because. 2 Custodes and 4 sisters SHOULD rip apart everyone!

It was written in such a way that it would have been a trivial amount of editing to change -- a few pronouns. Very easy to miss, especially if you're proofreading it and agree with the change. Then you had the social media intern that supposedly started blocking and nutting up to own the chuds which just amplified the problem a dozen times over. Rumor is they were setting up a PR Crisis team to try and figure out what to do and her little stunt with "there have always been Female Custodes" intentionally made that impossible.

ADB is also the guy who openly talked about wanting to do FemStodes years ago, on facebook, but the big bad mean GW corporate refused to let him. It was blatantly a personal army/brigade attempt, he wanted the Sigmarxism types to harass GW until they let him do it. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that he was desperately trying to smooth things out so his Dommy Mommy Muscle girl fetish porn gets made permanently canon.

This is what baffles me about primarchs. Each one should be an 8000 point model. But instead, they're just guys.

Also, hyper elite armies are a flawed concept. It's why I never really liked the idea of Knights from a gameplay standpoint. It just doesn't sound like a fun game where you kill 1 or 2 models the whole game, and where victory comes down to "did you bring lots of anti-tank weapons?". Even space marine first companies had this problem in third, but at least I heard stories of it being a different experience from normal 40k, and the SM player feeling each loss was a major blow to their combat effectiveness.

I got some advice recently to do this for death guard. HH has a lot of alternate colour schemes for legion chapters/companies to steal from.

My favourite 40k youtuber has a video on this exact topic I highly recommend (his video on Ultramarines is fantastic too).

This video, while about HH specifically, has good general ideas for doing alternate canon chapters and having it.

Specifically for EC. They started the heresy with brilliant armour, then turned pink and purple, and by the end were just a mess of clashing colours.

(Edit: If anyone cares, I was asking for Kill Team. I wanted to paint the marines as Raptors, but since the box is SM vs Death Guard. Green v green might get confusing. I was told to paint them in their HH era bone colours.)

I agree with you 100% that this isn't more or less fashy than Krieg, but the perpetually offended don't see it that way, and GW is a cowardly current year corpo. It's better the retcon Steel Legion from existence because it avoids a scandal and allows them to throw a bone to the meme army. One of the popular guard third party options (even Auspex Tactics has recommended it) is using Wargames Atlantic great war germans as krieg. You don't even have to swap the guns (though I would).
An example of someone kitbashing the great war french kit to the same effect.

I say this because you could cut out the middle man and jump straight to World War 2 Germans. Maybe sci-fi some of their guns a bit.

I'm getting into the weeds, but my point is the Steel Legion was fine imo. Even if they use Krieg models with a new colour scheme to avoid redundancy. Retconning out of their moment in lore seems a bit shitty, and needless. GW could make new plastic, but even if they don't. It's an easy fix. Just say that Steel Legion is struggling and Krieg are brought in to re-enforce. Done. But GW doesn't make official plastic for them, and third party kits do exist, and GW doesn't want them getting money.

I've got a feeling we won't see Pretorians for a while either. Unless a wave of patriotism hit the UK. Similar reasons as Steel Legion. GW doesn't (and never did) make kits for them. They are considered "problematic" because they're colonial era British, and third parties already make great proxies. Be it sci-fi kits or historical kits that are painless to convert.
