I feel FOMO with their bundles more than anything. Old eldar combat patrol? Could be a good start to a new project, discontinued. New one? Not as great and has a long life.
It's why I'm flip flopping on Horus Herasy. I'll never get to play it as intended. But the plastic in the box is good value and I'm the one basic bitch that likes Space Marines unironically.

In a strange twist. Local GW man told me not to worry about fomo, because HH3 isn't on the cards for the near future, and if it was the box would be just as good value. I highly doubt that,

As for FOMO - I cant wrap my head around why a company would give a shit about the secondary market. I mean sure it means their products sell out, but if half of your customer base can't even order the fucking thing then what's the point?
I wondered the same thing too. Still do. Though there are some clues from the GPU shortages in 2021.

  1. Selling out means no inventory is left. Excess inventory sitting on shelves is a bane for retail.
  2. FOMO means people will pay more than they're worth.
  3. Selling all stock to one scalper is better than selling to 100 loyal customers because it's less of a logistical headache. You don't have to send out orders, deal with returns, etc.
These don't explain all of it, but they do explain some of it.

HH 3.0 will probs happen before/after the launch of 11th edition, so we still have at least 2? years until that happens. Plus all of the 2.0 boxes still have good stock, you can find them pretty easily.

I wouldn't trust anything a GW store employee says. Even if they know the truth, they aren't supposed to tell you the truth. Their job is to say anything that might get you to buy models(without simply lying, or at least having some plausible deniability), or think about it overnight to come back and buy models later. Same shit with a car salesman at a dealership.

As far as the FOMO stuff, you're spot on. There's a reason GW had a fucking cargo container of free skaventide boxes to give away at adepticon, leaving them sitting around is a liability. There's still AoS 3.0 dominion boxes sitting on retail shelves for fucks sake(I've also seen some of the 2.0 launch boxes not too long ago as well, but I've seen that once while dominion is still all over the place). But yes, inventory sitting around collecting dust is inventory not making money(and depending on what it is, losing value over time). And with limited runs of things, it works. It's the same reason McDonalds periodically brings back the McRib, it sells well, and eventually once the sales fall off they pull it from the menu and then wait again. As stupid as it seems, people are suckers for "limited" shit and it happens in everything from miniatures, books, shoes, makeup, phones, etc. because it works. And for every instance of shit like that 9th edition Black Templar box still collecting dust on retail shelves, it works out just fine for 10 or more other boxes.

Scalpers add another interesting twist to things. On one hand it's obvious to see that they're preventing people from getting product at MSRP, but on the other you can see that morons are willing to buy from them at 2-5x MSRP depending on the product. Does that mean GW would be more successful if they just doubled the cost because morons will happily pay triple from a scalper anyway? Probably not, because then the initial interest wouldn't be there to begin with. The scalper market is entirely driven by customers willing to fork out the cash. Same with GPUs like you mentioned, if customers weren't willing to pay 2-3x the price for a GPU, scalpers wouldn't bother.

This. GW store guys have never outright lied to me, but they will also do everything they can to dodge around giving a straight answer to a question about upcoming releases or changes. It's interesting that he said flat-out that HH 3.0 isn't in the cards for now, because that's way more definitive than they usually get in my experience.

Isn't OPR making a Battlefleet Gothic like ruleset?
warfleets has been updated to 2.0 last year iirc. no idea if they're working on a 3.0, but even GDF wasn't such a big jump between versions.

... I wonder why more people don't just sell their "totally not space marines" 3d prints as being for the OPR ruleset, actually. It would be a valid defense against GW's lawyers, yeah? "These aren't Space Marine proxies, they're miniatures for the I Can't Believe It's Not Astartes factions for Grimdark Future."
lot of them do already, some big names among them: https://www.onepagerules.com/opr-news?category=OPR+Compatibility
that usually includes integration in their army builder, so you all those nifty models already have stats (if you don't wanna use them for battle brother proxies).

with the website talk it's also hilarious how the OPR website shits all over TC's groomcord. everything you need is right there, including free starter with 2d models if you don't wanna 3d-print but engage in some arts & crafts.

If primarchs looks like this:
to be fair if everything is "bigger" there's no reason the head wouldn't be too. including BSMC.

also battleborn was up to sth

Big ups Oshouna Minis for getting on that list. I've never been a huge fan of 'Nids, but the underwater versions he's created are top tier. Especially the larger models. It'll be nice if he can get his definitely-not-Necrons advertised on there too once he's finished the range. I've used those as proxies in other games because of how unique they are. They're kind of like Necrons crossed with Nighthaunts.

I think FOMO backfired on me, as well as several other people like me, in that its message is upfront, "you are a niggercattle consumer, you mean less than nothing; beg to have the opportunity to waste your money on frivolous bits & bobs". I'm just that right amount of jaded, but not cynical enough, to just shrug and keep walking. I guess they don't want my money that badly then, I can live just fine without their crap.

Modern warhammer is literally just geedubs milking out consooomers with overpriced plastic slop and shitting on their own lore.

Lore/rules dissonance reminds me when in Rogue Trader, SM was a force comprised of human, violent criminals with maybe cybernetics here and there, basically the French Foreign Legion... IN SPAAACE as far as I understood.
I believe some Chapters still do that, for what's worth. I stopped caring about the lore when the Primaris showed up, as it was obvious they were doing Space Marines 2.0, but blander than ever.

I don't care much about Star Wars but I find it funny how EU tries to explain stupid shit from the series. Why stormtroopers can't hit the broad side of the barn and wear eye-searingly white combat suits in a forest environment? Certainly not because they're kids movies made to sell plastic garbage.
Funny how stormtroopers used to be fearsome and competent minions (remember one of them wounded Leia with a hip-shot with basically no aiming time, IIRC) until the bloody ewoks happened. They never recovered from that.

It happens a lot in shitty media, like Worf in Star Trek. You have someone who is supposed to be very strong and good at fighting but then there's no tension in the plot, so they always end up losing, making them look like complete buffoons.

Not sure who designed the Krieg Engineers but they didn't need to be 10 to 15 parts a piece. 2 part backpacks? Really? They are half the size of a Space Marine.

Is horusgalaxy any good?
>Thinking any (WH) subplebbit is good
Ita just a counter-grimdank. It rarely makes content of its own, just parodies the main sub and therefor not great.

You will get banned from most if not all warhammer subs

Censorship-free btw. Also lol of course this subplebbit that's like every other subplebbit is "too different" and will get you banned off other WH subplebbits. Even in the hivemind, you can't escape human tribalism. This post though is why I can see you getting banned lol:

Almost all of those rules are mandatory, if you don't enact them in some form Reddit Admins will nuke your sub. Some are there to prevent obvious attack vectors -- for example, dunking on someone without redacting their name is harassment to the Jannies, if you're dunking on a protected snowflake they WILL cry to the admins about it. If you don't have a rule against NSFW content they'll spam your sub with CSAM (they already did that to Horus Galaxy once I believe).

The site already has "the" 40k subreddits, so the "chud 40k subreddit" is on the short list to be nuked -- reddit's admins don't like split communities, it makes it more likely wrongthink will occur and less advertiser friendly.

The GamerGate forums went through this until the admin who was literally a tranny pedophile (seriously he ran for office on a "let me fuck kids" platform in the UK, and moderated hundreds of child targeted subreddits) was pulling shit like "this violates the rules but I won't say what rule or how" and nuking random posts, posters, and even moderators. They finally just banned all mention of transsexuals AT ALL, negative or positive, which pissed the admin off but the whole "proud and out pedophile" got out and he got yeeted before he could do anything but sneed.

I initially thought it might be some stupid sigmarxism honeypot op so they could ban anyone posting there, but they just do it anyway. But it's still reddit and thus not worth posting on.
Funnily enough I dont even think sigmarxism bans people from there, thats what the main 40k sub does

Poor Worf got shat on all the time.

Stormtroopers I can excuse, they were initially boarding troops in the film, and on Endor they weren't really there to wage war, just to keep Wookies, I mean teddy bears, out.

In the original Star Wars script they didn't even have any armour, but had laserswords as a pretty standard gear.

It gets less defensible with clones in an actual ground war, but they are fighting robots. There are some examples of them having camo, but not much. You can at least say that maybe Droids don't see in just the visible spectrum, so camo may not be that useful if the robot sees your heat signature. Which Space marines should also be able to do, known as Preysight.

No. For a couple of reasons.

The one you mentioned requires getting into the weeds of economics, but as short as possible, people want to buy at the lowest price available, but will pay what they thing is worth to them. A starving man will pay £150 for a slice of bread, but he wont if the loaf is £1. GW would sell more models at half, or quarter of the price, but is that enough to make up for the loss from people who walk away vs those who pay up?

Second, scalpers don't win as often as people think. Some do, but in many cases (like retro games) it has been found that it's scalpers selling to other scalpers to keep the price up. In other cases, scalpers end up out of pocket like covid toilet paper hoarders or Wii hoarders. Once the supply returns or the demand goes away, they are stuck with stock they can't move. eg. I remember a new story post covid where someone was demanding that shops have a legal obligation to accept refunds when they had a house full of toilet roll and no one would buy it.

And it's not as if everything is forever anyway. See all the people (like me) who wouldn't mind a first born space marine army.

I think it was because adapticon just happened.

As a one off it could work, but it happens so often it becomes comical.

Was it an anti GG sub like GamerGahzi? It sounds on par for those groups.
