Holy shit GW finally fixed our army rule. This is exactly what I said they should've done just to make the whole markerlight thing way easier to play. You no longer need to carefully plan precisely who is going to shot and shoot in what order or accidentally lose out on your bonus. No more penalty for split firing your burst cannons or rockets at softer targets. You mark all your targets and you just shoot. The only downside, which I feel is a good enough trade off, is you have to do it all upfront. You can't adjust your markers based on how successful a volley was, or respond to any surge moves. This also means if you target a transport you can't mark the unit that disembarks. I'm actually eager to get into a game and try this out. It's been a while since I've had a game.

Someone at a local store was gauging interest in a casual 1000pt tournament over the summer. It'll at least give me a reason to get out of the house and maybe slap some color on my models. I just hate painting so much.

On the topic of Horus Heresy, I really don't understand what you're all sperging about. First it's hype, then it's doom and gloom, and now we're bashing doomers? I can't keep up. I don't play HH but kind of want to try it. So you'll have to break down what's wrong with the new models other than looking really goofy. Everything in HH looks really goofy to me.

The hype>doom and gloom cycle at present is the worry that GW is going to kill what autists like about HH, vs much needed improvements.

Disclaimer. I've not played HH yet.

For me personally, it's the box set. At under £200, it's one of the few GW kits where you get a lot of plastic for your money. Two vehicles, a shit ton of marines, some terminators, and characters. Plus all the rule books, templates, dice etc needed to play. The new box might not be as good value. Especially since some of the units might be faction locked.

In terms of rules. One of the reasons people on the internet love HH is it's a narrative game with some very old school hobby elements. It avoids the constant rules churn and meta chasing of 40k and other games. HH 3, the rumour is they're switching to a similar 3 year cycle and rules churn that is killing 40k. Supposedly one army book is barely 6 months old and will be completely obsolete.

On the other hand, there are elements about HH 2 people hate. Like the interaction between certain special rules, and the reaction system. These are supposedly being fixed with status tokens and an expanded stat line.

If I remember correctly thr Ynnari flooped hard.
Haven't watched the video, so maybe they cover some of this.
Ynnari managed to alienate everyone other than WAACfags. All they've provided is a broken army that eventually gets the rest of Eldar over-nerfed to compensate, four editions in a row. Even the biggest Eldar fans disliked their fluff. The three models that they got weren't bad - the Visarch in particular looks great - but that's not a faction, it's three models (initially sold in one box; not sure if that's changed since they're not stocked anywhere that I check).
The Corsair Kill Team continued the Visarch's aesthetic rather than that of the pre-existing FW Corsairs and were well-received, so there's speculation that they might subsume what was supposed to be an Ynnari range expansion, with the sculpts already designed. Exodites are a pipe dream.

Unable to pay thread tax of completed Mini at the moment but any word on Daemons for Heresy right now? They may be lumped in with the heretics index but I haven't been able to find anything about them right now. Search function on Dakkadakka gives no results the same with Bolter and Chainsword.
Are we few Daemon enjoyers destined to be left in the dust? Also quick question anyone have any I dea where I can find the instructions for the plastic Brass Scorpion kitbash GW released? My Arch Daemon super heavy is going to be a mix of the Defiler and Soul grinder.

The third book that was supposed to complete their storyline of whatever got cancelled, no idea why. As far as on the table, they definitely didn't flop, and have been a fucking menace for the past 3 months thanks to some retarded rules that just got nerfed yesterday. Specifically it was this mess combined

The reality is if they did do eldar on dinosaurs, it probably would actually sell well even if it were stuck just being another eldar subfaction like ynnari and harlequins are now.

Pretty sure they don't want to bother with them in HH at this point(that would mean models for 3 game systems, HH, AoS, and 40k, and they already basically hate having them in 40k sharing models with AoS). They dragged their ass and I don't believe did anything for HH 2.0 other than some demon equivalent of an assassin. And their preview only showed the books for Astartes, Hereticus(was just traitor legions for 2.0), mechanicum, auxilia, questoris(knights), and said custodes would be getting theirs later presumably with a refresh to eliminate more forgeworld kits without even so much as a hint about a daemon book.

yep, it's sad to see heresy die such a horrible death. Nigger cattle will seethe at this post but the game is dying and its from 8th 9th and 10th edition 40slop player base.
I can only speak for my own scene (I hate that term) like everyone else, but we are doing fine and we expect to continue doing fine.

We do Heresy and Heresy events in the main because the scene is older gamers, there is drastically less autistic screaming on the internet, and people just like to chill out and play some games and have something to do painting and modelling for. Our experience is that Heresy gets organised online but doesn't "happen" online and honestly the forums and the slopcontent are the worst bit of 40K. I don't mean the memes, those are often funny, I mean shit like that Discourse tranny screaming about how everything is terrible several times a week as a "content creator".

I like to paint terrain and also plastic soldiers and sometimes move them around and I like to do that with people who are fairly mentally stable and also have jobs and kids and a normal life. It is possible to organise events like that in Heresy in a way that is just not possible in 40K.

Everyone's local or semi local scene may vary. Just reflecting my own experiences.

I am agnostic about 3rd edition until we have some games in the tank to see what's okay, what's better and what sucks goat balls. We are lucky to have the space to have people over to play so we will try and get a chunk of actual play time in with other people as well as each other and see how we're going in a couple of months.

Skavenblight Dinge on Pro Acyrl Coal Black is such a beautiful combination.
That black looks fantastic. Gonna need to pick that up for my Destroyer squads.

I doubt they'll faction-lock anything in the starter box. The whole point of it is that you can pick it up and paint it as whatever legion(s) you want. Defeats the purpose a bit if some of those shiny new plastics are loyalist or traitor only.

I will say up front that I get recommended a bunch of 40k lore slop whenever I watch anything 40k. I don't click on them. Things like "Sigmar is the 11th primarch!" and "Alpha Legion: The secret heroes of the heresy." I know fuck all of lore outside of various lore videos about HH.

Of the few leak videos I could stomach, they talk about how the big shoulder boys, and one of the characters, are Salamanders. I want to say another speculated the box is loyalist Salanders vs whatever traitor faction you want. Something to do with the lore of the new units being made in limited quantities shortly before the heresy, so only Salamanders really had them.

A kiwi who knows can correct me, but true or not, the concern is the box might be faction locked.

For what it's worth, supposedly the box takes place during early heresy. I don't know when armour marks were rolled out, but it seems to be a common bit of speculation. And I agree it would be dumb to lock units to factions, but I can see GW doing it. They do it with Kill Team.

Looks good. How "black" does it look in RL? Asking because army painter black is too black, and deep grey is too grey, and don't want to have to keep mixing for when I want a practical black.

Congratulations! You're now relegated to "Legacies of the Age of Darkness" AKA "Legends" AKA get fucked.

Please take a seat next to the traitor guard and Imperial Militia, safe in the knowledge that your rules and lists will never be seen in print again. On the positive side, now is a great time to polish up your kitbashing skills!

I get that 30K is all about legion against legion/brother against brother, but it makes you wonder just how much they're going to cull from the old black books going forward. Still, at least we got ZM rules in Siege.

The Age of Darkness box was legion-agnostic and I don't see any indication of them changing that for this one.

Narratively the box is set during the Drop Site Massacre at Istvaan V, where the Sallies, Iron Hands, and Raven Guard got decimated by the traitor legions. The Massacre was the second major battle of the Heresy after the Battle of Istvaan III, so yeah, it's very early in the HH timeline and it makes sense to have Mark II there, as that was one of the most common patterns during the Great Crusade. The box art is Salamanders vs Iron Warriors, but they also showed the models painted up as a variety of legions, like White Scars, Space Wolves, and Iron Hands. This ties in with the new lore on the Saturnine armor, which is that it was developed by the void clans of Saturn during the Unification War and was only in limited production at the beginning of the Crusade because it was so time and material-intensive to make. Vulkan picked up the design after he was found, tweaked it, and shared his results with all his brothers, thus justifying having Saturnine armor in any legion you want.

I’ve been salvaging old and aborted projects, alongside upscaling old marines. A daunting task initially, but this stupid, silly art solved my problem and with it, I’ve merged old-scale marines, old Warriors of Chaos and Stormcast into some truly horrific Noise Marines with sonic cannons I made years back from heavy bolters and Tyranid weapons. It genuinely took this retarded shit and that Spawn-style “bigger boot” foot to remind me what fucking legion I was building and fuck the symmetry.

Such sweet cacophony

The EC update was good, but the techno-organic, pseudo insect/sea creature look should’ve been used more.

I half-agree. The Ynnari experiment might have been a failure, but Exodites are a self-contained faction; They have minimal, if not zero contact with craftworlders. As they keep to themselves, they mostly deal with alien incursions or booting the occasional group of planetary squatters off, and in doing so enlist the aid of corsairs, craftworlders, even commorites. There's big potential for several dinosaur models, from seeing how AoS' idoneth worked out (not that I would know since I don't play AoS). It's risky to introduce a new niche faction but at the same time what else is there but to fill spare shelves with more primaris marines characters.

40k died a nigger death during 8th edition. no one with blue eyes plays current ed.

YOU WILL NEVER BE A WOMAN!

I also wanted to say that Erebus is the greatest character in all of 30k and 40k that nigga be wild.

So, the guys at wargame exclusive are apparently having a sale, and I'm kinda debaiting what Ork model to buy as a warboss

Give Freddy Moonqury a guitar instead of a hammer and paint him in Blood Axe colors. His whole deal can be that he decided the 'umiez had something going on with their marching songs but like everything else they do "Da boyz kan do it betta' cuz GREEN IZ BEST". Either that or a Bad Moon showing off how many teef he has to get the boyz to sign up and follow his lead by making himself as flash as possible.

It's quite dark but has a nice mat finish to the colour once it's dry.
