Anyone here play the fantasy total war game? It's been a lot of fun but I keep hearing whispers and rumors of a 40k total war, which is what I hope Creative Assembly reveals in December. Would this be something yall'd be interested in? what would your dream starting factions be for that game? Do you have the game take place in the current state of the imperium? Who do you think would be the essential factions for release of something like that? I'm guessing @I Know 孤独のせい would have some opinions
I did, but had to uninstall it recently due to it constantly crashing on me. Not sure why as I usually deactivated mods that were out of date.

I do doubt they'll do a 40k version. Main rumblings from the rumor mill lately is Nagash and End Times. If they do either, they might have to increase the map size since it's getting so fucking crowded now, especially if the put Nagash in Nehekhara or Nagashizzar.

I would argue that's more or less confirmed. Since WH3 is the only proper revenue stream for CA and Nagash and Thanquol are big characters, it's certain to make a decent amount of money. Question is when. Next year, 2027,2028 ?

I've had a modlist that's ever-growing with SFO and i've only had a few crashes so i'm curious as to what was happening there. Also appreciate the file compression they did recently (think they shaved off ~30GB?). I just feel like 40k is an inevitability if SEGA wants a cash cow which they prolly do out of CA since they had that garbage fire "hyenas", and I personally think it'd be cool to just see these units in high definition dukin it out. That and Alien Isolation 2. I think end times are a bit of a ways away if dlcs continue to be profitable. CA sofia seems to be taking the reins and there's a good few other factions or characters they could include in some future dlcs. I really don't care about additional factions like monkey king but I think some older factions could use a good re-visit.

TW tends to stick to a formula. I don’t see how they can manage 40K as a settting currently. It’d require multiple worlds and world maps which is vastly different than dropping a few factions on a map. They’d probably cut out space combat like did with naval combat in WTW. I can see them maybe just doing a HH game set on Terra during the siege but right now with the TW series I can’t find a way for them to work 40K into it without being disappointed in how they accomplished it. I’m sure we’re all expecting something like Star Wars Empire at War scale but TW current trend with how they do games won’t allow it. Maybe at best they’ll stick a few factions on some planet as the overview and just pull a Dawn of War reason for everyone to be there.

I think you could do a perfectly good 40K TW game if you limited your scope. There have been plenty of decent 40K strategy games in the past with a campaign setting. They may look like shit now, but they play pretty well.

The campaign map could easily be reworked to mimic a 40K conflict. Including the mechanic of taking/razing settlements, eg you could make logistic chains actually matter for a change.

Like I say, keep your scope limited and you could accomplish it easily. A smaller campaign map limited to 3-4 factions. Then your DLC becomes a brand new campaign map and another 3-4 factions. If CA had a clue, they cold even make their expansions thematic, like a Necron tomb world map to introduce Necrons, AdMech and Eldar. They could be shitting chapter specific Space Marine DLC until the cows come home.

The combat itself shouldn't be hard to do either. Have workable cover and capture points where you can occupy buildings (similar to how you could garrison buildings in EndWar, for instance). Implement transports properly and they would probably be more useful than they are on the tabletop.

There are a bunch of tweaks you could do to make a really good 40K game out of the TW format. Creatively Bankrupt would never do it though, because it requires more than a copy and paste.

It's so shit and I hate current siege warfare, but I feel like the skeleton of the realms of chaos campaign could come into use in crafting this. Defensive resources, larger battle maps, maybe have a small regiment of marines to initially control with guardsmen who can be spawned using resources gained? The laziest possible beginning factions would be marines/chaos. Could be a good game half a decade down the line.

Here me out. X-com style but instead of each unit being a single guy, it's a squad of guys instead. That way you could realistically field an entire company's worth of Space Marines in a single battle. Just a little idea I just had.
Isn't that basically what Battlesector was? I only played it for a bit, but it came off like a weird dumbed down version of the tabletop moving around entire units on a grid, but avoiding being too close to resembling the actual game since GW would never allow that.

I hate them so much. I get troons and communist bullshit shoved down my throat constantly but God forbid someone has an opinion outside the norm. I had to play nice with this fat ugly faggot who insisted he was Charlotte. Kept bringing up how awful Trump was and how he’s so persecuted by pretending to be a woman. I just smiled and did my rolls while trying to keep things on the topic of 40K. God fucking forbid you deal with anything outside of gay race communism.
I've said it before but I consider this to be societal rape. Trannies insert themselves and their beliefs, and their lifestyle non-consensually. I did not ask your pronouns. I did not agree to call you by a woman's name. I did not ask for your uninformed opinion on Trump, and I would like to press charges.

40k total war wont happen because 40k is not a rank and file game. It doesn't make sense for 40k units to operate in such rigid formations like you would when dealing with pikes and swords. That's why Dawn of War is Dawn of War and not Total War: 40k. I don't particularly like Total War because I don't get it. The game gives no feedback as to what's going on, or why things are happening. So much is done under the hood that there is no way to make an informed decision on anything during a battle. It's all vague suggestions of flanking is good, fighting downhill is good, etc but never provides details as to why or if these factors are currently having any effect on you at all. Units behave in strange unpredictable ways and it's not always clear why a unit isn't doing what you've told them to do.

Personally I'm fine with modded Dawn of War 1. I wish we would get a Dawn of War 4 that is a proper modern version of the game.

I completely agree with this, I'm even banned from posting my models on Instagram for telling trannies they are disgusting, but you have an anime avatar so are less than human.

I got thrown out of a friend group for not humouring the tranny (it wasn’t there when I joined) and during an HH-themed game (Deathwatch rules), I was a little bit drunk and my based boy, Captain Valdtius of the Emperor’s Children, laughed at the human “woman” psyker (only human in the group) who dared try to command Astartes. Which I thought was in character.

Then a bit of real-life bled in and I got declared Traitorus-Extremis for getting lost in the sauce.

They aren’t Slaaneshi, they’re actual Genestealers.

“Uh, you see bigot, your Emperor was actually a four-armed woman.”

I basically stood there with this face the entire time.

And he got mad I was using Gaunt’s Ghost models as Phobos. Store didn’t care. Never once have I had a complaint doing this before. Claimed it was cheating because the base size wasn’t exactly the same and it gave me an advantage over his plague marines when it wasnt even a tourney. I had to watch his hairy beer belly spill out with 5 o’clock shadowed face tell me how he’s persecuted. Nigger I can see why.

Total War isn't really a rank and file game, not in the real sense of it. It might look like it, but it really isn't. The stuff going on under the hood is just a roll-off between stats. Formations are a bit of a moot point. People like to navel gaze about what formation is best for each scenario, but there is a reason you never see the AI rocking some esoteric formation on the battlefield, because once units are engaged in melee its just a roll-off. The only time formations really matter is to give your ranged units a better line of sight.

In this respect it does a very good job of emulating WHFB as you're just pushing blocks around.

You wouldn't need whacky chevron formations and the like in a 40K version, you just have the units stay in coherency as they negotiate terrain and/or regroup as they lose men, just like you do on the tabletop. Its just Cannon Fodder but with extra steps.

Personally I'm not super psyched about the idea of a Total War: 40k. I'm just not convinced that a TW style game would work well with 40k.
Bit offtopic, but Fall of the Samurai already crumbled a bit with Gatling Guns and the super accurate artillery, kneel fire made shit ridiculous too but with a heavy trade off. But TW would be aids with anything relying on automatic firearms, i think Crimea and Boshin War were/are be the very latest they could go for

I was dumb enough to go to Warhammerfest (watching the titan war the fan group put on almost made up for it).
A couple of times after getting bored and hitting the local Spoons I said "you shall not pass" to a couple of the fat five o'clock shadow idiots in ill fitting Matrix style pvc gear and stockings, thinking that if they complained I could just say I was a big fan of Lord of the Rings and also with autism.
In the end nothing happened and no one on the bus clapped.

Can't imagine how horrible trying to play a game with one of these disgusting mutants might be. The thought puts me off learning the game.

Think I've posted this before but Dawn of War 1/Red Alert style of game, set at Vigilus as think nearly every faction is represented or out at a random system on the Eastern Fringe as another way to have everything involved. Though going with Horus Heresy for the setting Loyal/Traitor with campaign starting at Istvaan 3, ending on Terra, would possibly be more straightforward, in terms of game production, due to it being same tech/load outs, just one side has some spiky bits,
horns, tails and tentacles on them so similar assets and animations can be used for most of the forces. If it were to happen, knowing GW, would probably be only Isstavn 3 in the base game then everything else after would be paid dlc and will need all of them before you get to the siege, which goes on til the gate is shut then a series of quick time events for Sanguinius vs Horus before the credits play over cutscene of Horus vs Emperor

Holy fuck :story:

How do grey knights keep losing THIS BAD? This entire combat patrol is such a slap in the mouth, and its obvious that GW is trying to get rid of its excess models (which is weird with Crowe - didnt he sell well?) before the range refresh next edition. I'm going to guess they're going to drop the GK update beginning of 11th or midway through after everyone that was going to buy this one got it. Personally I hope scalpers scalp the FUCK out of this box to hopefully prevent newbies from buying it and wasting their money.
