It's even dumber because apparently they can't harvest any glands out of dead scouts.

I wonder will the heresy fanbase take the changes lying down or take a stand for once? This is kind of the defining moment years of gloating superiority over the "40k sloppers" and now the reaper is at the door. Do they take a stand or end up no better than 40k itself?
I know basically nothing about Heresy, can I get the bullet points of what is wrong with this new edition?

The biggest TLDR I can give you is they are adopting the 40k way of doing things of not giving customization options to certain minis if they didnt come with the miniature in the box. So entire squads or HQs are invalid now at launch

Initially, it looked like the new edition was going to be crunchier and more flavorful. They introduced a new leadership system with four separate stats, and I was told it looked more like nu-Necromunda, which sounded promising. Challenges looked more intricate and involved, adding depth. Then the Libers leaked in the last couple of days, and it has been a major disappointment.

Rules-wise, it a total ass raping. The game now appears to resemble recent editions of 40k, where options and customization are heavily reduced. A few factions came out alright, but most of the legions feel completely gutted. Core units like Destroyers, the beloved warcrime marines with radiation bombs, are missing entirely from the core rules. I play Dark Angels, and almost all of their unique flavor has been erased.

GW has said more Tactica Journals are coming, which sound like codexes for individual legions. Supposedly, they will add back some of what’s missing. But right now, it feels like a lot has been stripped away, possibly to attract players from 40k or Shatterpoint. This is a total step back from what the Horus Heresy has been and people are pissed. I’ll give it a shot, but useless something changes, I’ll probably stick with 2.0 and the Liber Panoptica.

Does Legions not exist anymore? Crap I was looking into make a Clone Wars army of Clones and CIS....

So fo the Crusade game, I'm gonna try and use the Taktikal brigade, since we're starting at 1k . So decided to try and bring Big Mek with Shokk Attack gun, Warboss in MegaArmour, Trukk, Kommandos, Tank Bustas, Lootas, 15 Boyz, Weirdboi, Painboi and 5 Nobz. Gonna be interesting to see how this list gonna play.

Is it also mimicking 10th and making loadouts different datasheets, or do you mean that you literally cannot run them in certain ways at all? To me that makes sense, if a unit doesn't even have the weapon in its kit why would it be on the datasheet? How else would you be able to model that weapon?

Atomic Mass games is in charge of Legions now, not Fantasy Flight. It is still getting updates, I just don't know how strong of a property it is right now. I only played one or two intro games but that was a pretty fun game. I like how a lot of the rules just use the leader model to simplify measuring and LOS.

Ignore my previous post, I thought @iceteayo meant Imperialis. My rage over HH 3.0 has made me retarded.

This is how it looks. Idk how familiar you are with Horus Heresy, but all marine specialists fall under the Centurion HQ, and you pay to make them a specific Consul: Moritat, Chaplain, Forgemaster, etc. The Chaplain Consul can't take a jump pack anymore, while the Moritat must take one. Praetors, the Chapter Master equivalents, seem to keep most options, but GW's sticking to their "no model, no rules" bullshit. I need to check the leaks again because some options aren't clear, but the losses are fucking huge. Interemptors, one of my favorite Dark Angels units, got screwed hard and might not even have their special heavy weapon, despite a model existing for it.

It's beyond fucking insane that Destroyers, one of the most iconic Horus Heresy units, with players building ENTIRE FUCKING ARMIES around them, aren't in the core book. GW's probably thrilled to sell their rules in some future book. I'm dying to see the actual book when the rules drop because these leaks are incoherent, like dozens of people who barely spoke with one another wrote them. Plasma, the great marine killer, was decent in 2.0 with a 50/50 shot at AP2, but now it's even weaker. Fucking Thunder Hammers are somehow shittier than power fists. They were busted in 2.0, but when the hell have power fists ever outclassed hammers? World Eaters players got fucked badly: their legion tactic only kicks in after they get savaged and fail a leadership check. Absolutely retarded.

My only understanding of Horus Heresy is obviously the setting, and that it was closely modeled after the 7th edition 40k rules which I also did not play. At the tail end of 2.0 I was sort of looking into it, at least in regards to playing a couple games on TbaletopSim. I couldn't afford a HH army when I don't even have a complete 40k army yet. But then I figured let's wait on 3.0 because it should be around the corner and that'll be what people are playing anyways. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll get it all right in 11th edition.

👌 Absolutely excellent. I always liked the idea of the night lords but this was the first time I sat down and read about em. They are very technically the least evil faction of chaos. And I say that because instead of harvesting your soul to power up some evil demon shit, they'll just politely kill your ass Batman style. We are following the nicest possible night lord in probably the entire chapter, and he's still not that nice a guy. Just rational enough to realize what a shit show the heresy has turned into.

Throughout the whole book there was this feeling of a chapter slowly falling apart but too proud and stubborn to really do anything about it. They know demons are bad shit and they know following Abbadon is a bad deal, but they hate the imperium so much they tolerate the evil as it slowly pervades and decimates their numbers. The characters are all very memorable, the dynamics between them and their human slaves are interesting and best of all is the bickering and infighting between the chaos factions. The number one scene in the book is the protagonist Telos telling Abbadon off and showing off why the legion is so interesting for trying to hold onto its own identity even as everything falls apart and they outlive their own purpose.

10 outta 10.

The book made me realize that recruiting a night lord into the imperium is going to be dam near impossible. The hate from their primarchs death is still so strong that the only way you could get any kind alliance going is either becoming their vassals or convincing them that chaos is the more immediate threat that needs to be destroyed. They got the same author to consult on the dark heresy game so I'm pretty excited for that.

You know what a Night Lord hates more than the Imperium? Other Night Lords.

That’s how we’ll get the Night Lord companion, strung up and left for dead, enemy of my enemy deal.

The prisoner whimpered as skull-crushing pressure drove through his jaw.
“Thank me,” came the thin voice from above.
The man pursed his lips, eyes wide. “Th‑thank you…”
Andreius squeezed harder. Bones let go.
“Ave Dominus Nox.”

Fresh from my table, one Noise Marine squad leader and a standard marine. Still gotta do the outline of the base but I’m calling these two done for the most part.

The “speakers” on big boy are the Tyranid spore terrain from the Battle for Macragge box and his weapon is made from some Tyranid weapon, which are a good source of sonic blaster stand-ins if you’re kitbashing noise marines. His base is one of the Custardes terminators and I’m really proud of him, he really looks like he got his shit pushed in by the warp. My favorite part is the Slaanesh glyph carved into his head and the liquified remains of…….. something on his base.

Little guy is pretty par for the course for my dudes, though his loincloth is my first attempt at painting Salamander flesh.

I'll only be getting the rule book for HH3 since I don't need anything else for it. Even with the new edition out in a few weeks there's still things out of stock, it boggles the mind.

I'm not going anywhere near it. I bought the 2.0 box and played about four games before we went back to 1.0 and the community FAQ. They're trying to drag the game kicking and screaming into the competitive scene, and they can fuck right off.

It's typical of all of their major releases. It's also why they're building a new factory. At any given time, half their shit is out of stock. People want to scream about fomo, but it'll be older models out of stock, newer models out of stock, half an army out of stock, it's all over the fucking place. They probably spent a bunch of time cranking out the new boxes while trying to avoid disrupting the normal 40k and aos production, while also needing to do production for the next quarterly 2 army KT box, and the production for the upcoming AoS army they've been hinting at, a supposed set of space marine combat patrols that Valrak has been bouncing around in his chair about with foil on his head for months, and so on.

I still don't buy this for even a second. I've said it before, but looking at how the HH 3.0 rules are written you're not going to be seeing game times normally under 4-6 hours, which means it's impossible to have a "competitive" format. What are you going to do, run 3 round tournaments that take 3 days? Not a chance. This video trying to go over the charge rules is 30 fucking minutes to explain this overly complicated shit.
That is not anything for a "competitive" game, unless you've got no idea what a "competitive" game actually means. If FLG wasn't even willing to run events for HH 2.0, what makes you think there is going to be a competitive scene for a version of the game that will take even longer to play? Sounds kinda fucking retarded, doesn't it?

That being said, my disinterest in HH 3.0 isn't because of some bullshit "competitive" nonsense that makes no sense. It's because when 95% of your games are space marines and take half the damned day just to get 1 game in, no thanks.

edit: And yes I'm aware that FLG is running horus heresy events for LVO this year in October.
They're still using HH 2.0 for it, it's only 2 games a day, it isn't even really a tournament(because it's some narrative event thing they do, not doing win/loss matchups), and the "mega battle" is just some games of Legions Imperialis/Adeptus Titanicus. So yeah LVO is a 900+ player event, will be using outdated rules for HH, and doesn't have a tournament for it. Doesn't scream "competitive" to me(and GW has been partnered with FLG for a couple of years now).
