Another retailer is seemingly struggling to shift the 3.0 Horus Heresy starter. They are offering 50% of another Warhammer product in your basket when you buy the Saturine box.

They're currently selling the box at £156.00 also Alchemist Workshop who I screenshot a couple pages back still has 322 boxes in stock when I last check this morning.
I was really not expecting this negative reaction. Online chatter yes, but for it to translate into an actual lack of sales...its big.

Maybe nows a good time to dive in? Certainly cheap enough.

The fuck is with this obsession people have with Mallum Caedo? Everywhere I look I see people sperging about this one-note DOOMGUY knockoff as if he's the funniest and most baddest assed Smurf in all of the galaxy. I dont get it.
Like I understand the warhammer community loves running unfunny jokes into the fucking ground, but goddamn. This Caedo shit is more annoying than the "lol Blood Raven's steal things lmao".
I mean fuck me, I'm an Alpha Legion fag and even I have my limits on dumb memes.

Boltgun protag
Oh that guy. He’s cool I guess if not more than a bit forgettable, but has the community really become obsessed with him? And redditors don’t count, they aren’t people.
Game was fun though, I’ll give it that.

He's not even a character. Other than taunts he doesn't say anything. I share your rage with Titus. Warhammer does not lack named characters, but I guess because they're in video games we have to pretend like they're amazing.

It's almost a shame how easy the encounter is.
It's kind of a shame how easy the game is if you stumble upon a decent build. I should not be able to kill a fucking C'tan Shard on the highest difficulty with a handful of bursts from a las rifle before it even gets the chance to react. The game does such a good job of capturing the 40k feeling in a vidya game, but it's all undercut by basic CRPG competence and a semi-decent party.

Was it the Necrontech one or the Archeotech that boosts damage based on enemy armor and your Ballistic Skill? On unfair? It adds enough spice to make being broken feel worth it, granted you will annihilate the final two acts still.

I don't mind after playing through Owlcat's last game a few times. Its core difficulty is several times beyond RT's unfair. Shit's insane in retrospect, but I'm too used to it to complain at this point.

I don't even remember which lasgun Argenta ended up raping the last act with, but I believe it added extra shots to bursts based on Agility or Ballistics skill. End result was 12-16 bursts that were all potent enough to kill a scary enemy on Unfair. Probably could've brought some challenge back just by unequipping the armor which gave a damage boost for every critical hit, but that intentionally gimping your party kinda kills the appeal of such games to me. I think the Paragon perks are just way too strong, I don't see how anything could be a real challenge if you have 2-3 of those. Still a very enjoyable game IMO, but I'd be lying if I said that the worldbuilding wasn't harmed by watching Argenta eviscerate giant necron constructs with 2 shots of her 16 shot bursts.

hey
if all you need is a warp grenade...

Don't necrons throw rubix cubes at these guys like pokemon tho

Pathfinder games would get so frustrating at times. Did you play them in real time or in turns? I never found the former too enjoyable, which has filtered me from many a good game i'm sure.

Yes
Even on real time, early Pathfinder takes forever so I go with it for the first act then use it depending on the situation for the second and third before going all the way to turn-based in Act 4 and 5 because too much shit is happening to react in real time in any way

yeah having both is really nice for that. I'd love to see an arcanum revitalization with that option. Who the hell inherited troika IPs, Bethesda? Is arcanum sitting on an ever increasing list of Microsoft IPs they've devoured like Saturn eating his son

Not to my knowledge. I think constraining such a being takes a cartoonish amount of effort and hyper advanced necron technology. They can capture a space marine or 12 with a tesseract labyrinth, no problem. But those guys take immense amounts of power to contain, even for necrons. Read The Great Work if you want more info about this.

My only gripe is that it ended abruptly and there's apparently no follow up on the fate of the southerners. However... I found a pretty deep rabbit hole by looking up the author's works. Apparently he carved out his own niche in Warhammer by setting all his books in one particular system of space and having an overarching narrative with a few reoccurring characters. Ill go into it in further detail in another post but so far I dig the heck out of it.

Apologies for the late reply, but his writings are called "The Dark Coil". I have the recently released omnibus "Damnation" that has 7 short stories and two novels, including "Fire Caste". The next omnibus "Ascension" will be released on November 4th 2025. It contains the rest of Peter Fehervari's works.

I can assure you the rest of his writings are just as good as Fire Caste.

I was fucking astounded by what I've read so far in the Damnation omnibus so I did a deep dive on the author and found two obscure interviews to get a better grasp on the guy. I was very interested in why in the fuck he chose to model the regiment in Fire Caste after Confederates and how he wrote the southerners so well, but I found no answer. What I did find out is that Black Library had no idea what to do with him and in my opinion fucked him over.

The first story he submitted was about the Night Lords attacking a space station, told completely from the perspective of a small child that had no idea what space marines even were. It was rejected and he had to rewrite it into what is now one of his short stories, I can't remember which one.

His first novel idea he submitted was about some Imperial propaganda film makers in the process of making their next movie. In order to make the movie more realistic, they acquire a real ork from a rouge trader and attempt to "reprogram" it to follow their commands. Various hijinks ensue. That was rejected by Black Library.

The novel Fire Caste was supposed to be called "Thunderground" (which makes sense and actually has something to do with the book) but BL made him rename it to... idk.. promote the Tau or something?

His plan over a decade ago when releasing all of these short stories and novels was to have them be part of the same mini-universe and reference each other. BL completely ignored all of that and made no effort, until now by re-releasing all of them, to show any kind of connection between the stories.

What really sucks is that Peter Fehervari isn't a professional author, he's like a tv/film editor or something. As far as I know his last novel wasn't successful enough and he doesn't write anymore. Maybe these re-releases, in the way they were really meant to be read, will be enough to get him to write more.

My aspiring sorcerer came with an option for either a warpflame pistol or this hand with the eye in it. Naturally, I chose the ladder. Is that just shooting myself in the foot with the model since he has no gun now?

No, I don’t think so. I modeled most of my 1k sons aspiring sorcerers the same way and have never run into issues. You’d only have problems with some autistic level WYSIWYG type player, but they aren’t worth playing against most of the time
