It's a matter of taste. The glossier the surface, the less the wash will stain and so the cleaner the removal, so if you want very stark or clean recess shades, a coat of gloss varnish definitely helps. Also means that you aren't at risk of the mineral spirits affecting whichever paints you have beneath the wash, but that shouldn't really be a problem with acrylics regardless.
I think the problem you are going to run into is large panels and scaling up from a mini means that shading often looks like coffee stains and highlights gonna be chunky. Dont take this as gospel though.
My thoughts are, like most modern games, until we actually get to see a decent portion of it, or until more companies start doing insane depth dev diaries like EUV then it's not really worth thinking about because basically anything can happen before release.
Chainsaws are not actually good self defense weapons because modern materials capable of withstanding being a chainsaw striking something are extremely heavy. To be light enough to swing around, you risk the chain breaking apart and swinging back to hit you in the face the moment you strike something.
When things start getting larger, edge highlighting and panel lining starts looking really dumb/strange really fast. We do that on minis because they're small enough that they don't normally catch light correctly on their own(nevermind not being able to control the lighting in the room) or to make them fit better into the environment(terrain, basing, OSL, etc.).
GW chainswords are also basically non functional due to the width of the armor covers they put on the bar that you'd never see on a real chainsaw. The teeth aren't wide enough to make up for the extra width so you'd get an inch deep and then end up having to force it through as if it were a 2x4.

I'm guessing the the IF stuff will be expected to double as BT gear. "Just paint it black!". Sharks only make sense if it's being used as an excuse to dump some more old armor mrks and/or studded variants, otherwise it's just some shark tooth trinkets and wave patterns. And the Raptors are genuinely dumb. Idk what you can do for them. A bunch of tacticool helmets?
Strategems (think Halo skulls/Destiny modifiers) has it’s own currency so I’m guessing it’ll have its own cosmetics. I’d imagine Raptors dlc is just gonna be the Phobos armor pieces that aren’t in the game.
