I've unironically seen troons gravitate toward Slaanesh, not understanding why Slaanesh is bad. It's pretty funny
Or that your average Slaanesh champion in 40k is a giant aryan man who was likely a supremacist, purity-obsessed macho perfectionist with a complex before chaos and they’re largely the same, just now with hedonism and debauchery.

“I’m gonna get my sword back from that xeno-whore.”
-Lucius

AOS by virtue of being the more paused setting might allow for it, but Chaos in 40k by virtue of the legions, is a boys club. Your chaos cult is growing in power? In comes some power armored chads to kill you, take it over, use your boys as fodder and fuck off when consequences show up.

Are they worth buying?

I was wanting to compare all of the common black paints that are available but paying 60 bucks for the full whack I thought was a bit wasteful.
Time will tell if the swatches are truly a worthwhile purchase, but I'm happy so far. Controlled visual comparisons are so much useful than textual recommendations of different blacks people are giving here, especially when color selection is ultimately a subjective matter. Even more so when we're talking about slightly different shades. My initial goal was to find an off-black I like, but I can easily see getting further uses out the swatches down the road for any color, and it helps that Stahly promises to provide free updates for changes in the purchased paint lines, including reformulations like Vallejo did recently. Also note the three bars on the corner representing an opacity rating, which is very good to know for bright colors.

For another example, for future projects, I was curious to see what red options are available for painting AdMech armor. The usual recommendation is Citadel Khorne Red, but when looking at the swatches, I realized that Two Thin Coats Asmodeus Red looks better to me because it's slightly more vibrant. I can also use Paint and Snipping Tool to compare the swatches directly against official GW illustrations and photographs.

Alternatively, if I prefer to have a dark red with less purple in it, I can quickly see interesting choices like Vallejo Game Color Gory Red and AK Burnt Red.

Keep in mind that while Stahly does his best to compile the swatches in a neutral environment and explains his methodology, the color you perceive on the swatches can also be skewed by the medium that you're viewing with. Computer monitors have color settings. Printouts have printer and ink quality. Even the lighting of the environment you're in right now can make a difference in how colors look to you. Stahly suggests that for understanding and calibration of color accuracy, you should compare the colors you've personally painted onto models to their corresponding swatches as a baseline.

What you'd expect it to be, odd there hasn't been a more generic preview of game mechanics like the base building or if morale returns in the same manner as DoW 1.
Valrak video today suggests that 11th vs box will contain
  • No Storm Boys
  • New Boys
  • New Gretchin
  • Generic Gruntherder HQ
  • Big Gun emplacement
  • War Trakk
  • Generic Warboss
I think lootas//burnas, Weirdboy, and a Deff dread closer to the old egg shape is a pretty safe bet too, I doubt it's just the above unless you get an insane number of boys
I'm skeptical about new Boyz. Launch/Starter boxes are traditionally all brand-new and push-fit. I definitely expect Orks to get the highly-requested new multipart Boys in the inevitable post-launch Ork wave (similar to multipart Termagants for 10th Edition Tyranids), but as far as the launch box goes, it will be very strange if it gets either the old, controversial push-fit Boyz or a new mold of push-fit Boyz that will evoke the controversy all over again. But on the other hand, it will also be strange for Orks to not have Boyz in their featured launch box and 11 Edition starter sets.

Necron Warriors came with both weapon options in Indomitus for 9th. As long as they're new sculpts I'm fine with either or. It's not impossible to get some more monopose sculpts along side a standalone multipart box

So I know this guy annoys some people with his voice, but I just find his win-rate videos interesting, though I don't have much stake in the game currently, since I'm still researching and trying to figure out what to start with.

Since you're starting out, bothering with the meta is irrelevant. By the time you've got yourself a 2000 point army painted, and playing at tournaments, not only will the meta have shifted multiple times by then(there's quarterly updates and sometimes monthly releases can change things as well) you're still going to be new anyway. Not to mention there's an entire edition change that should be coming some time around July.

I wonder if i should hold off on buying anything until 11th edition?

So really the big releases that have been rumored are ravenwing, grey knights, dark eldar, and orks. All of these are wll and good but I want more chaos goodies, but in all fairness we seem to be getting at least a decent bit in the near future, with the corsairs and iron warriors(mutilators+defiler) in the next few months. Really I want to ask the fellow kiwis what they could see being updated after those 4 ranges I listed initially, because unless Im misremebering it pretty much covers all of the ranges that have notably old models.
I laughed at this because their statement makes no sense. In lore iron warriors are unique among chaos for being the MOST order obsessed space marines in the entire galaxy.

Buy whatever faction you want, so long as it's a real faction. So no imperial agents, chaos daemons, harlequins, ynnari, and it won't be an issue since nothing else is really at "risk" of not existing in 11th outside of the tactical marine kit and custodes getting rug pulled with the new models banished to only exist in Horus Heresy.

Just buy whichever Combat Patrol box offers you whatever you value the most in aesthetics or lore. I don't think any of them have units that are dead weight and edition changes likely wont nerf them too hard so they should at least remain somewhat viable.
no imperial agents, chaos daemons, harlequins, ynnari,
But keep this in mind, Chaos Daemons are probably just going to be shifted over to the Mono Chaos God Marine codices and cease to exist as their own faction, Ynnari were a failed attempt to reinvent Eldar and have been quietly pushed to the side, Harlequins are just extra units for Eldar/Dark Eldar but are in a weird spot, and Imperial Agents exist to be allied into other Imperial armies and ally rules come and go.
