Hm. KTBay has started putting stuff on the purple site.

They do specific pre-made kitbashes, like the simplified 40k tabletop board games they sell at Target (which are just Space Marine Heroes repackaged), meant to represent a single Kill Team.



For a little under $5 for each bundle they're not bad. Not enough to do anything with 40k (although some would work well as HQs) but I think each is meant to adhere to a specific KT. Not supported, but I hear modern auto-supports are a lot better than they used to be?

They are for the most part, but sometimes if you angle a model a certain way the auto-supports give you something obviously wrong.

Listened to “The Revelation of the Word” to get a reminder of David Annandale’s style with the Word Bearers, cause of the new book coming out.

What I forgot was the audio drama making Lorgar sound like Arbiter and it being the best description of Chaos, it reaches greatest saturation through destruction, death and mayhem, which is why all chaos factions do it.

It’s also why Lorgar views his sons as “instructors” of the Word and those they instruct rarely survive the “lesson.”

“Revelation” is pretty short but it covers Lorgar discovering the Imperial Cult.

The Word Bearers trilogy isn’t complex but it gets into the 40k WB culture, most of the HH WB who aren’t in Lorgar’s group show up in the trilogy, Marduk, the Warmonger, Jarulek, Kol.

“The Purge” is my favorite HH Word Bearer story and I consider it the best intro, it’s not long but it made Sor Talgron my favorite WB character.

White ink or paint. Let it dry. Then throw on a contrast colour of your choice. Blob it. Its a runny paint and just sits there like a puddle. It wont run because they are eye sockets and hold it until it dries. Can also use Blood for the Blood God or Tesseract Glow if you cant choose a contrast.

Working on a project for a friend, I will try this with Contrast and post the results. I usually do the gradient lenses myself. And to be honest, kinda fallen out of love with gel paints like BftBG and Waystone Green. Now if I could get my hands on one of the glazes like Guilliman Blue, that would be nice.

I did not read the Siege of Terra to hear about Abnett’s Scooby-Doo group bumblefucking around in the final battle of the War to End All Wars. So Erebus being used as authorial course-correction (again) was based, like I hate Abnett but I can give credit where credit’s due.

Erebus killed the gayest, most insufferable members of the Heresy, the Karen, the r/nice guy Word Bearer who midwits like, the Mystery Gang, his machinations led to Horus losing his Star Trek fantasies and the death of those cringe xenos and he killed Garviel. Fucking based.

I’ve come to a point where if the Reddit/Youtube secondaries tell me to like a character, I hate them and vice-versa. Eidolon, Erebus, Ferrus, the entire MM, Lucius, Gendor Skraivok and Typhus are all among my favourites. Contrarian yes, but liking the unliked means I don’t have to kill to get my special editions for the books.

Though I will say, the Word Bearers discovering that if you just vibe with the World Eaters, you will have a good time is funny. The chaos expansion for the most recent Battlefleet Gothic has the same thing happen when you befriend a WE.

Garvy is unnecessary so long as Nathaniel Garro was successful, it’s why Saul is mythic as a character and nobody likes Lokken, they knew when to let go of a character.

If I could decide on one it'd probably be either World Eaters or Salamanders though I wouldn't mind doing both

World Eaters on tabletop play pretty tactically compared to a lot of factions, you have no shooting to speak of so games are decided by how you set up your army in the first 1-2 turns behind cover for a big banzai charge against your enemies on the primary objectives, in 10th edition the World Eaters army rule is also based around a casino, every turn you roll eight dice and use the results of those rolls to pick up to two bonuses that effect your army in positive ways. The army range itself is small, and much of the list building revolves around "How many of each unit of this small range do you want to take and do you want Angron or not." I'm admittedly not as interested in lore as others in the thread might be but I do know you have some fun characters like Kharn to read about if that's your thing, and Angron is pretty cool even if hes kind of a loser.

Conversely, Salamanders are under the umbrella of Space Marines, which you can run basically however you want as Space Marines make up like half of what Games Workshop releases for 40k. If you want to run them like they do in lore with heavy armor and flamers you can do so. If you want to have a heavy melee focus with bladeguard vets and assault terminators you can do that as well. You can run them with a bunch of sniper teams and scouts and infiltrators and shit. You can even do stuff like painting up some Dark Angels miniatures as Salamanders, run them in a Dark angels detachment, and just tell your opponent that these Deathwing Knights are on loan at the moment for a brotherly goodwill training exercise with another first founding chapter, have fun with it. This can be kind of a problem with SM, as theres just an insane number of datasheets and detachments to look through to find exactly what you want, but you absolutely do have something to use for whatever role you want in your army. Theres a couple Salamanders specific characters and detachments you can run in 10th edition, but it isn't really its own faction in the way World Eaters are, it's still marines painted in a certain way at the end of the day.




Honestly though, just go with whichever faction you think looks coolest and you'd think you would enjoy painting the most. Because even if you get finished and realize you hate the way a certain army plays you can still put them on your shelf and admire the work you put into them, or just sell them off and buy another army lol.

Tom and Don know the setting. They just (rightfully) call Harlequin, Tau, and Salamander fans out for being gay. They aren’t autistic or gay enough to really care about some faggot on Reddit that’ll consume whatever.

They are autistic enough to articulate their feelings in a good way. The setting is ridiculous and often a satire, but it’s a bunch of sci-fi and horror shit mashed together by nerds. The Imperium is a horrifying and inefficient space empire and that’s the point. They exist at a scale that is to focus on it. They aren’t the Dark Eldar where Vect killed off the ones who caused the fall and is effectively kinda fucked and has to keep doing poopie rapie. The Imperium never gets a fucking chance to do some introspection.

The point of the Tau is that they are like the Imperium, but lack the size where it makes sense to be some brutal. Beyond just trying to steal mech warrior market share, they are retarded commies who’s books showing them being worse keep getting retconned to “nuh-uh good guy faction” because of Redditors.

Another vote for Killteam, mainly because the box is one of the few good deals GW has. And I don't mean the retarded "Look at the points per dollar!" sort of a way.

14 minis is a little low, and not coming with the full rules is a dick move, but overall the contents of the box is good enough.

The main problem with KT is finding players. To put it simply, there are some that turn their nose up at skirmish games. They want an army, not half a squad.


Completely unrelated. My friend bought a Space Wolf combat patrol today. His friend has bought Tau. So with SM and Tau off the list, and because I'm starting to get a pile of shame trying to keep up with all the games he's buying into, I'm tempted to go necron. My other options are Vottan, Sisters, or Genestealer Cults.

Cults I'm worried about weird rules. On the plus side, Bikes!
Sisters I don't like the noodle guys that are a third of the box. I could proxy something I like more, but not sure.
Vottan for being Xeno space marines, and I don't mind their Alien's aesthetic. Units are bland though.

Necrons I like. They aren't my first choice, but undead robots are nice. Easy to paint even if I go with a more complex scheme. Torn between terminator or egypt themed.

My experience as an attempted Tau player (and I still think they're cool) is that despite being around for more of 40k than they haven't (24 years old in a 40 year old game) they still have the stigma of "the shitty new faction". And they still have the tired complaint of "not grimdark enough" that seems to get thrown at 40k as a whole these days. GW keep trying to pile on more and more dumb "grimderp" shit from a 40 year lifespan to secret mind controlled pawns of the Eldar, and it's never enough.

If GW just left them alone, then the grimdark elements would've just wrote themselves. But no, got to keep piling on the stupid.

Just let me have my high tech alien faction in a sci-fi wargame please.

Even though lore-wise the Kroot are some of the nastiest things out there in the galaxy, a tribal-based species of carnivores that considers whatever or whoever they're currently fighting to be their next meal, and is able to adapt their biology by integrating DNA from their food, and with no real loyalties even to their Tau "masters".

I'm pretty sure "Eaten by Kroot" has to make up a decent portion of IG casualties whenever they fight the Tau Empire.

I directly addressed them. Kroot, vespid, etc. all qualify as "other races" along with humans all being third class citizens. They aren't enough of a thing on their own to accomplish anything and the imperium would just crush them, just as humans join because their position within the imperium was shit.
