Kill Team was a much, much needed addition to the tabletop as a whole and hobby portion of magnetizing minis saves SO much damn time painting and gearing compared to the old days of the game.

On all the retarded pricing - we got 3D printing now and I find it hilarious that a capable printer now costs maybe 2-3 boxes worth of GW official minis.

Far AS official merch - those itty bitty 4-5 unit intro boxes were a godsend to people who just wanted to own other factions to check out what the units felt like.

It's funny that most of the new named Guard characters have been a female though. I actually can't think of a male apart from the new Lord Solar guy. There's that female comissar with the edgelord name, the upcoming new named female comissar, Ursula Creed, Minka Lesk. It's definitely noticeable but I don't really care. BL writers love writing women I guess? Or more likely nu-GW is trying to balance out the decades of male-centric releases.
It was to prepare the guard range for the complete testosterone overload that Cain is going to cause.

In all seriousness while i don't mind guardswomen on principle the uptick in female commissars is worrying (Especially Graves who's definitely poised to replace Yarrick during after the Armagedon campaign, remain vigilant and raise hell when they try to do it!). They don't really make much sense in the fluff either. To my understaning the kind of progena who becomes a comissar is the same kind that would go into the SoB. But the schola as a whole makes very little sense so not like it's a big problem.

If you're fine with not using GW models, I recommend checking out Wargames Atlantic's Death Fields Arena line for your infantry.
This. Look for them second hand on Ebay, you can usually get a virgin box for about 30-40 bones. 20-24 troops for that price in 2026 is practically a steal.

Also, proxy figs on Etsy are out there, but you'll have to shop around.
This is something I may do but I also just like the way normal imperial guard models look

Basically they need/want gender balance but they can't do it with space marines, so they make commanders of the IG/inquisitors/administratum female. You can see it happen in most media franchises tbh.

Does anyone have a recommended buying guide for someone interested in getting into Guard as an army? The Combat Patrol is apparently not the best place to start so I'm told
Krieg have their battleforce and combat patrol that are limited runs so may be hard to find. Guard are box at a time mostly.

You probs want 4 tanks and maybe 60-80 infantry. That will form the backbone of most guard armies.

Ah. That explains why people say to proxy. Cadian Shock Troops are like $45 dollars for 10 models.

It's supposed to be really good, yeah
I just wish they didn't lock most of the games factions behind DLC with just the base game you can only play Blood Angels and Tyranids.

The Blood Angels also don't get shit you'd think they'd get, like Terminators, Sanguinary Guard.

While the Tyranids don't get the Broodlord or Hive Guard, they're both sold as separate dlc for the factions which is fucking insane.

Like yeah for those two factions it's five dollars to get those units, but it shouldn't have been.

That's also ignoring the other factions that could have been in the game from the start that they went "nah let's just slap a 15 dollar price tag on them."

As many as you can fit in 2k points
The cap is 3 presently, functionally 6 if you run 3 more as commanders. I'm just wondering where the dial should stop. Going to run my cultists as catachans with some kitbashed characters. Got 2 Battlecannons 2 Demos. Need to consider where i'm gonna draw more chaos bits from beforehand, thinking the juggerlord kit since I used leftovers from the DP on the last three.

That's the fucked nickel and diming that reminds me why I don't play tabletop.

I guess I can snag the IG/Necrons/SoB at a later date if I enjoy it.

Yeah when DLC reaches Paradox levels of overpriced, it's time to Creamapi.

Yeah, WGA infantry boxes retail for $40 and have 24 dudes (30 if you go with the cannon fodder box) so you can have 2 squads with extras for special weapons. Is there any particular type of list you want? Tanks, mechanized infantry, artillery, etc?

I'm thinking either Artillery or Tanks.
