i wonder what GK primaris will be like, absurdly pure i would imagine given how incorruptible GK already are.
The current state of the Imperium, in my opinion, is poetic justice. Lorgar was the foremost instrument of that, and he accomplished it despite being a relatively weak physical combatant.
as much of a asshole as lorgar is, erebus and kor phaeron were the first turncoats.

I do feel sorry for Lorgar, because the Emperor took a giant shit on him at Monarchia and then he was led into Chaos worship by those two smug dicks, but at the same time I was rooting for Corax to rip him a new hole in that one short story where they throw down, because fuck Chaos.

i havent read much on the events around monarchia, but wasnt it one huge shrine to the emperor as a god, something that the emperor was set against from day one?

Yeah, the backstory is that after Lorgar was united with the Word Bearers, he wrote up the Lectitio Divinitatus and had his legion spend more time spreading Emperor-worship than they did conquering stuff and expanding the Imperium. Every time they took over a new planet, they would settle down and construct huge cathedrals and shrines to the Emperor and teach the populace to worship him, which took forever and annoyed the piss out of all the other primarchs except for maybe Magnus and Leman Russ, of all people. The Emperor let this go on for a fucking century for no apparent reason, and then instead of telling Lorgar exactly why he was trying to stamp out religion (not only did he think it was stupid and counterproductive, the Chaos gods feed on worship, or so he believed), he just had the Ultramarines go to Monarchia and burn down its biggest and shiniest shrine-city. He then psychically forced Lorgar and the Word Bearers to kneel in the ashes and swear to knock off the religious shit. We all know how that worked out. Even Guilliman thought it was too much and was upset that he and his sons had been used in such a fashion.

Don't know if this has been posted yet. Space Marines Preview: New Units

I kind of like the multi-part Infiltrator and Eliminator kits and their different wargear loadouts, but there is a disappointing lack of a Primaris Assault Squad.

Primaris are sucking at melee. The only options are the Aggressors, which are better used to hold down an objective. Reivers, as cool as their concept is, are basically slap-fighting in a game where S4 attacks with no AP are about as useful as the artillery dice.

I do hate to play Heretic's Advocate, but the Emperor's "Don't worship me like a God" shows a real lack of self-awareness when he was literally the most powerful living being in existence, with powers that defied the laws of reality, rocking a massive halo... and the average human being was an illiterate that barely understood how to tie his own shoes. That's basically like sucking a cock right in front of everyone and saying "Y'all don't look at me like I'm some kinda faggot."

one of things i would like to see expanded about the emperor is his dealings with beings, mortal or otherwise who are actually somewhat competent and recognise the hypocrisy, which is why i like the last church so much.

it also seems to me that the emperor has been used by some writers to make him seem like a complete arse more so than would be expected by someone who is the ruler of a soon to be massive empire and protector of humanity.

Yeah, he's fallen victim to a pretty severe case of Depending on the Writer. To quote 1d4chan:

"To be even more fair (and meta), the triumvirate of Horus Heresy authors tend to have their own interpretation of the Big E. Graham McNeill generally portrays Him as competent and benevolent (if flawed), Dan Abnett portrays Him as competent but bloodthirsty, while Aaron Dembski-Bowden portrays Him as a vicious, needlessly cruel imbecile (and even this is counterbalanced by his portrayal in Master of Mankind, where he's interestingly a mixture of all the previous portrayals at once - which is kinda of appropriate really). Chris Wraight, as far as he has portrayed Him, has done so through the eyes of Jaghatai Khan, showing Him as deeply flawed and distant from His own sons, but also countering that He was working towards goals even the Primarchs couldn't fully grasp."

Aaron Dembski-Bowden has said that when he writes the Emperor, he's trying to portray him from the perspective of the people he's talking to, with the implication that the Emperor's psychic mojo can cause him to change personality, word choice, and even appearance based on who he's talking to. Thus, a Mechanicum representative sees the ultimate scientist, brilliant and utterly detached, while the primarchs and the Custodes see their father and commander-in-chief and ordinary people see a golden demigod that makes them pee themselves in awe and fear.

So I'm just getting into tabletop warhammer after playing the computer games for many years. My friend has an ork army hes letting me play. I've been researching gameplay but I'd like some real life experience tips from anyone who's ran orks before.

So a lot of Space Marines have sacred reverence for their Primarch and the Emperor- which is much like the concept of Buddhism, where it's less a religion and more of a philosophy that they meditate and reflect on, and try to emulate. To be fair, you could say their adherence to this is everything short of being an actual religion on a technicality, because they don't say "Yeah the Emperor is a God".

Space Marines don't outright discourage the worship of the Emperor, because they understand that it's the one thing holding the Imperium together- even thousands of years of outright civil war can end once the faith calls upon two civilizations to do something about those goddamned heretics drawing dicks on the aquila.

Regular humans, for the most part, see the Astartes as divine beings- closer to the Emperor as a being than the average person, and therefore interpret their behavior as just a variation of the faith at a different level.

Plus, the last Ecclesiarch to push it and try and fuck with Astartes about faith had a legion of power-armored bitches with bolters fanatically defending him before he got stupid- and that's probably not going to happen again.
Try telling this to the Iron Hands.

Remember: FLESH IS WEAK!
