The lady tells me that his mechanicus novels had pronoun faggotry in them, and his article page also stated this at some point. I don't believe ive picked up any of his novels just yet, but I don't particularly plan to. Just by knowing hes trying to sneak this shit in like female custodes sours it (and he was promptly bitch slapped by black library leadership for the suggestion)
I own the entire gaunts ghosts series start to finish, some assorted novels, the word bearers omnibus, the OG imperial guard omnibus, ahriman omnibus by french, the entirety of gotrek+felix and the entirety of cain. I can tolerate Sons of the Hydra being a completely off the rails novel, but I can't knowingly buy bowden when i'm going to immediately see him setting up his novel as a progressive mouthpiece three chapters ahead of time.

Sons of the hydra is a fucking journey by the way.

I've heard that ADB is great when you need someone to write for a Chaos faction, but is trash when he writes for the Imperium.
Helsreach seems to be a notable exception.

Of what I've read of his, the Night Lord books are good, as is Spear of the Emperor. Master of Mankind is pretty meh. It's not awful but it's mixed at best; I also think he portrays the Emperor too negatively. One might say 'Well, the Emperor is meant to be complex and have major dark elements' - yes, but in Master of Mankind he says to one of the Custodes how all of humanity must be brought under one man's reign ie his, like some comic book villain.

Spear of the Emperor is good (space marines in Imperium Nihilus) aside from me rolling my eyes a bit at the female battle thralls.

Have any of you heard of Death Ray Designs?

These are my personal favorites:

I checked out their site and there are some things there I wouldn't mind having for terrain.
Same for Battle Systems:

This set would be great to represent the corridors of a ship:
And this to it:

I’ve been looking at the battle system stuff ever since I got nostalgic for the old GW 40K cardboard terrain and I am definitely impressed by what they have.

WAAAAAAAAAGH!

Da meanest and the.....greenest?
Ghaz.jpg

I love how fluffy that is. All of GeeDubs warbosses are so small. Isn't ol' Ghazzie supposed to like 20ft tall? I love that old 3rd War for Armageddon artwork of Old Man Yarrik charging at Ghazghkull who is towering over the commisar in the background.
Yeah, he's as tall my my malcadors now. Crazy.

Finished Dawn of Fire: Avenging Son.
It was alright, nothing major happened in the book. Its mostly just setting up characters that we probably be following for the Dawn Of Fire Series. It mentions The Hand of Abbadon but that's it.

Been struggling to get back into the swing of my 40k. I think it's the rapid evolution of the editions and codex drops, before they're promptly made obsolete by another batch. Anyway, bitching aside, I know that the pronoun horseshit was in Gav Thrope's Imperator book, to the point it's impossible to read in that auto pilot mode because Xir will take you out of the book as your eyes register it as a typo.

No jucier details than that? Is Tyrone on the cover just bait?

He is a lieutenant. The book covers when the primaris are first being woken up. He gets Assigned to a captain(the guy in the white armor on the cover.) He has some impressive feats dealing with some khorne daemons. He doesn't really have much to him since he just woke up. He is obviously going to be a main character. If you didn't look at the cover you wouldn't be able to tell he was black. The captain mentions that he was very pale coming off the ice but that when he warms up his complexion is dark brown and that's it.

What if Yakub was the Silent King? Think about it. They were both kangz 'n shiet and they both fucked off, with the promise that they'll be back. And niggas were egyptian. Necron = negron.

The truth is out there and now you too know of it.

I need to check it out, but that reminded me I have read a few more 40k Novels.

Ciaphas Cain and Gaunt's Ghosts, both book 3. Both were good, but very much more of the same. Probably better they are catching up on the old series one book a year. I'd probably burn out if I listened to them in quicker succession.

Brothers of the Snake - Very much enjoyed this story of the poorest fucking Astartes in the universe(probably think this way due more to my familiarity with miniture armies, and 1st Founding Chapters and this might be much more accurate for you average chapter). Serious, for the majority of the book all they have is bolters, spears, a plasma cannon, a lightning claw, maybe some flamers. Some Rhinos, a power sword and a dreadnaught show up later. This is on a chapter strength event.

Indomitus - Most meh of all of them. Very much feels like the Saturday Morning Cartoon selling you the latest batch of toys. There are characters, but a lot are just labelled as their model name. Eradicator squad, Outriders, etc are oft refered to as none other than what you'd find on their box of minis. If given their name, their model name is used extremely frequently(Plasmancer, Royal Warden, Judicar). There is some interesting bits of lore from this that I'll spoiler just in case:

  • Judicar are extremely devout Astartes on the path to becoming a full Chaplain. Their hour glass is dust of a destroyed space station, it doesn't seem to have any effect in the lore. Maybe, either it's unclear or I wasn't particularly playing close attention the few times it was reference.
  • The Warp Nulling effect of the Pariah Nexus makes Warp travel impossible. The ship could make short 'slingshot' jumps, basically using momentum of jumping into the Immaterium to travel short distances with out the currents in the warp to carry them further and faster. Even then, the ship would of been stranded in the pacified warp with no hope of escaping, except they were able to slip through the tear of another ship. The blackstone pylons hadn't full been established in said system, a ship was trying to jump into the warp when the Necron's blew it up, and this created a hole for the protagonists.
    • Astartes are resistant to the will sapping effects of the Pariah Nexus, and can actually restore near by humans to functionality by their presence.
    • A Navigator's third eye is permanently blinded by looking at the Astronomicon in the warp effected by the blackstone pylons with out the tides of the warp to obscure it.
    • Void shields might be stronger in the regions affected by this?(probably just a quick plaster over a plot hole when a cruiser assaults a Necron capital vessel among a fleet, is able to deploy and retrieve a sapper raiding party onto the Necron capital vessel who blow it up. By the end of the book 3 escort ships are an almost impossible force to face while trying to excape.
  • The Necron's feel extremely human. Maybe I'm just familiar with the older lore, but they are petty and insecure. The Overlord is a weak narcissistic benefactor of nepotism, having been a distant relative of the Silent King in life. There are weird foley bits in the audiobook with Necron radio chatter where they worry about being blown up. The Plasmancer character monologues about the average warrior experiencing pain when being destroyed(in a sense that the pain they experience is worth the progress they make in the fight).
    • The Skorpekh Destroyer Lord is probably the most relatable. He has constant memories of his wife and children from before the biotransferance. His wife succumbed to the Destroyer madness, and he willingly joined her in it. He has the feel I'd expect of all but the top 1% of Necrons. He is more an essence of a sentient being trapped in a murder machine. He can be told to do things, but doesn't chat, doesn't scheme, doesn't bitch. He isn't a character anymore really, but he was.
  • Gav Thorpe put a Marine in the book called Guy Halius. Probably a friendly nod to Guy Haley, but the Marine is facing certain death by the end of the novel so 🤷‍♂️

I finished painting my Land Raider Crusader last night.

I apologize for the picture quality.
I'm happy how it turned out, though.
