I don't have any more DN stuff and haven't painted them yet but here is my fledgeling beastman/Imperial Guard army:Go on...
Post more.I don't have any more DN stuff and haven't painted them yet but here is my fledgeling beastman/Imperial Guard army:The army is mechanised, built around a core of veterans in chimeras, I have the list planned out to 2000pts however only have 700pts collected and one of the vet squads is waiting to be painted. This is my first army since relapsing back into 40k after 8ish years away. The army takes inspiration from a story about rampaging drunken beastmen from the old wfb army book which i got dirt cheap after AoS dropped. But with TANKS and LASER GUNS1111!

This is the currently unnamed Wargor/company command squad. the arm is from a skaven character and counts as a plasma pistol and power fist or Colonel Straken pts depending. The Wargor's legs was my first use of greenstuff (the IG legs were too short) in years and I'm reasonably pleased with how they went.

These are the two shaman/primas psykers, the model on the left is the only unconverted model in the army. the model on the right is based on a dark eldar haemoculus, the angle is unfotunate as you cannot see his eyes in the photo and the paint on his face looks a lot thicker than irl.The bronze of his talon has not come out well in the photo either. I imagine the shaman on the left as being in charge of interacting with warp entities and bargaining with other chaos factions for space transport on the brayheards behalf wheras the shaman on the right maintains the mysteries of the brayheards machines.
I have three squads of vets assembled and this will form the core of the army, each squad has two meltas and a flamer, mounted in a chimera with dozer blade. being hyper aggressive charging the chimera through cover and tank shocking enemy out of cover with one squad in order to shoot them with a second has proved murderously effective. the dozer balde is a godsend reducing a 15% chance of a mishap when going through terrain to a 3% chance. This allows very aggressive play which so far seems to really panic and wrongfoot opponents used to either guard gunlines or players being conservative round terrain. as the transports also have objective secured, they effectively double my OS units and enable zooming around picking up objectives which again is something that panics opponents as they see even after a bad turn I'm achieving VPs

I've been attempting to do one squad a week- putting the money i used to spend on junk food and alcohol towards something a little less harmful. I'm away on holiday for the next two weeks though so I'll be taking a short break.
Still to be added are a hellhound and devil dog to take up to 1000pts and then a leman russ excutioner and two standard leman russ plus a unit of storm troopers to reach 2000pts. I like the idea of having stormtroopers in the chimera as a dedicated anti marine squad however I am aware that deep striking is considered more points effective and the army could use a hydra for anti air. I've not decided exactly whether I'll do that and no doubt I'll make slight tweaks as I get to know the local meta better.

Is Games Workshop a bad company?
Do post more. I really like your work.
Post more.
games workshop are a corporation that excels at getting the most money out of their customers and promoting their own brand, however the suits in charge don't really understand the goldmine they're sitting on and don't realise that if they were less focussed on protecting the brand via laughable lawsuits and tried more to get more customers in and promote the hobby via fewer web exclusives, licensing out model lines rather than discontinuing them (praetorians, marked beastmen, mordheim, battlefleet gothic) and putting more effort into balancing the game ( though to be fair they have been much better at this recently) and making the rules free (they have moved to this with AoS and it is something many of their competitors do) then they would grow the community and it is the community that really drives sales of these toy soldiers. Their prices, while high are not much higher than inflation however as wages have not risen in line with inflation they are slowly pricing themselves out of the market as no one wants to be the CEO who makes a price cut when any benefit of doing so might well take years to show.Is Games Workshop a bad company?

They also have a major communication problem, I understand the sales logic behind keeping everything top secret but it gives the impression that they do not care about their customers and the disaster that was the official forums is a good example of this. This isn't helped by the online 40k community being absolutely vitriolic and not really representative of the wider community, people online tend to vocally hate gw or blindly love them, the moderate majority is drowned out by screaming autists in online discussion.
On the plus side as they are a profit driven corporation if they keep making decisions that are harmful to their bottom line it is a matter of time before they have their 4th edition dnd moment and are forced to rethink their strategy.
The quality of their sculpts is also very high and compared to similiar quality models not actually all that more expensive (with a few notable exceptions, Mantic games) considering that as a point of principle they refuse to outsource from the uk to china, I'm willing to pay the price. 40k is more popular in the uk than anywhere else in the world by a long way and i think a big part of this is that, in relation to wages, warhammer is cheaper here than in most of the world. also as FLGS's don't really exist in the UK the only place to go play wargames is often the local GW. If GW made a concentrated effort to get into the US FLGS market they could easily reverse their disastrous last two quarters imo.
I agree with all that,This sums up Games Workshop pretty nicely.
For the longest time GW stood as the sole company for massive tabletop wargames during the trasing card game boom in the 2000s. With the rise of companies like Privateer Press they no longer are. Players burned by GW's money grabbing and constant power creep in their games have resorted to other wargames such as Warmachine and Hordes (warmahordes), Infinity, Malifaux etc.
Worst of all, some of these new competitors are former GW employees who know how to fuck over GW. Best example: Mantic.
Mantic was founded by Alessio Carvatore and is currently producing Kings of War and Warpath as massive tabletop wargames. With Games Workshop's Age of Sigmar many players are abandoning the company for Mantic. For the unitiated, Age of Sigmar is a mess of a game that has no points system or any form of army construction. I'd go on about what is wrong about AoS, but this trend is about 40k and Vitriol sums it nicely from the quote above (that and I would end up writing a thesis about every single thing wrong about AoS).
Mantic knows GW is fucking up Fantasy players, thus it is providing them with army lists for them to play with. They most probably are aslo making new miniatures for the inevitable moment where GW says Screw it and stops producing Fantasy miniatures.
Beats me why folks still give money to Gee-Dubs.
Still wish the name Horemachines had caught on instead...
For me it is the community, there is no large local gaming club that has players playing anything but 40k and historical stuff anywhere near where I live. If there were i'd defo give it a shot.Beats me why folks still give money to Gee-Dubs. I switch to Warmahordes long ago and it's a blast.

The community really makes or breaks a social hobby like wargaming.
It's 40k with steamThat's what I did and now more are playing Warmahordes then 40K atm.
