I know not every game can be Smash Bros but the character models are painfully simple. Some of them barely register as the characters they're supposed to be. I know it's going for a different crowd than a "mature gamer" such as myself but it's still disappointing.
I actually like the character design so far. The game is primarily using simple characters, so the style fits and creates decent cohesion that can fit all from Adventure Time to Game of Thrones. The designs also seem fairly expressive in a way that Nick was unable to portray. The only design that I feel is off so far is SuperMan as something about the face seems off, and I guess Jake as AT’s extremely simple design looks off in 3D when he has eyebrows.

For a Free to Play made by a small team with neglectful corpo attached I think it looks pretty good graphically.

Freemium Currency used to unlock fighters
I believe the devs already said that characters will not be purchases. This game is trying to get cash from cosmetics, be it the unique death animations, or the alternate costumes.

You mean all I have to pay for is my favorite costumes? Damn, why'd I have to say it looks bad? It also occurs to me that I could beat the shit out of the cartoons I hate as Batman and that's worth at least a few nights' play. Alright, I'm in. Garnet players watch out. While you were stimming, I was mastering the Bat.

they better have a Batman Beyond skin

Tweet from the head of the project, Tony:

So yes, it seems that characters cost nothing, so have fun wrecking shit with Batman. I plan on using Finn to do the same.

Also for more context, I got the Tweet from this video:

It is likely due to it being highly requested. A really cool part about it though is that the voice may be the original voice actor, not Conroy, if it does happen. Apparently certain skins will change voice actors according to Tony:

Looks like they're designed for cell-shading tbh.

Decent trailer, however, I can't be the only person that's getting sick of " 'membah da Iron Giant?!". It's a cute touch that he got to meet Superman, but with how forced the nostalgia for him has been for the past 4-5 years, he may as well be in the next Smash ffs.

I will say that having voice actors actually do work makes it feel so much more alive than Nick Smash. Nigel and Hugh being playable is cool, but the magic isn't the same without the iconic voices.

I'm also on the side that hates the OC. It's a Smash clone, outside of bosses and a smattering of basic enemies, why are you wasting resources on OC's when those resources can be spent on characters from the giant pool you have to choose from that people want to actually play? You have THOUSANDS of characters to pick from, keep that DeviantArt shit as beat down fodder.

It looks good and signed up for the beta to check it out, but one thing that was pointed out to me during gameplay is the percentage being directly under the character.

I understand what it was going for but it makes it somewhat cluttered so I hope it's an option for a more traditional look, since its already a ton of shit flying around.

Also Taz is cool, but him before Daffy is getting to me

The inclusion of Reindog as a representative from The Neverending Story seems interesting, probably related to the game's story.

Weirdly enough Eleven from Stranger Things was in the May 19th closed beta data mining which is interesting. There's Neverending Story references in Stranger Things, expanding Multiversus outside Warner Bros seems to be a good idea. Weirdly enough, it looks like Harry Potter, Mad Max, Fred Flintstone and Johnny Bravo aren't in the game. Even weirder, Fix-It Felix Jr. arcade machine pics and references to the Hulk were found, might be from when the game was first pitched to Disney.

Hope this means a full-fledged adventure mode :optimistic: :optimistic: :optimistic:

How're you fellow K-Farmers enjoying the the closed alpha? It's pretty neat so far. I wish there wasn't so much freemium bullshit but It's still a fun time so far. I could do without all the metaprogression crap too because there's all these perk unlocks and minor buff items that it feels like I'm playing RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS.

There's an option to put the percentage meters on the bottom screen. They definitely know smash players are gonna try this game.

Looking at gameplay, this is definitely one of the better quality ones. Doesn't feel like a cheap clone hastily put together by amateurs, like Nick's Allstars.

The fighting feels impactful and the animations are smooth and fast. A lot of QoL changes. This could be a solid contender... For a couple of months, until it will fade into obscurity or bankrupt completely, and we won't be able to play it at all.

Also, it's battlepasses.

I doubt that. It'll just become it's own niche fighting game with a small, but dedicated following as time goes on. It happened with NASB and it'll happen with this game. The game being F2P, and being very generous to poor players at that, will also help bring more people in but only time will tell with that.

People really need to stop seeing these games as competition for Smash Bros. Nothing is going outdo Smash Bros. It's the granddad of this subgenre and the reason it's so popular to begin with.

These are stand alone games. Not competitors.

Characters in this title seem to have tons of dialogue, which is neat. There are even some character specific interactions.

Here is some more generalized:
Shaggy talks about the Batman crossovers.

Garnet thinks Steven and Finn should be friends.

I saw a clip of Bugs K.O.-ing Arya and taunting “Will the North remember THAT?”. They did a really good job with the voice work.

All alternative skins that significantly change the character have their own voices and likes too. There’s a British snob Shaggy.

This one really seems to be more focused on 2v2s, with team boons and attacks.

Which may be a downside, for me at least. Most of your partners will be stupid and most matches will be heavily impacted by the skill of your partner.

Tom & Jerry got their victory theme leaked and it is a banger.
They even added Tom's screams into the game. That made me laugh.

There's attention to detail. I'm surprised. But, the F2P model is concerning.

Here's a personal concern. Remember in Space Jam 2 when they added Baby Jane Hudson as a cameo? Say they start digging through the barrel for characters, how would THAT work?

I hope as time goes on and more characters get released, someone exports all the models, puts them in smash, and makes a total conversion mod so we can finally get a Tails Gets Trolled: The Videogame

"Lean." They went dick first into the Shaggy memes

Everything truly is down river from 4chan. I still love lurking the /dbs/ threads on /a/, lot of quality shitposting. But damn it's really cringey when normalfags take a meme without realizing the nuance of the joke on why it is or rather was funny, especially an old heavily dated one that lost relevancy 5 years ago. It's like that one South Park episode in 2016 with Kyle's Dad as Skanthunt42 where they show a bunch of 2000's internet references battle it out and play Rick-rolling. Made Trey and Matt look like really out of touch old men.

Having voice acting, including unique dialogue for certain characters facing each other and such is really helping the game overall, I think. It’s got really good attention to detail in the animation and such as well.

I’m also really impressed with the uniqueness to everyone’s play style. Velma collecting clues and siccing the police on them, TAZ building a hungry meter on enemies and turning them into cooled chocked, Finn collecting gold to buy buffs…

Oh please. I doubt some weebs on 4Chan gave the meme that much nuance. UI Shaggy is pretty much Chuck Norris 2.0.
