Warner Bros Multiversus - Another Fucking Smash Clone

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I'll never understand how they could get Mark Hamill to voice the Joker but couldn't get Frank Welker to come back to voice Stripe.

We are less than 4 days to the next season and there is literally no news of characters (already leaked), contet or balance. This reminds me of the beta and it's giving me vibes that the end of service is near. If they delay the next season then it will be clear.

If the game dies it will really fucking suck for how much the devs refused to learn anything and couldn't ever release a season without some self destructing caveat.

Season 1 was a huge thrashfire. Missing beta stuff, unplayable camera, extreme rift grind and retarded balancing, currency change, etc.

Season 2 fixed some stuff but fucked up others. Jack was pubstomping for most of the season while beetlejuice released as a throw pick. The event skins became impossibly grindy to get and required previous event skins. Ranked matchmaking was broken.

Season 3 was perhaps the worst balance has ever been, with banana guard and PPG doing reliable zero to death and even pro matches lasting 1-2 minutes. Nubia was also a character no one asked. I think this season nerfed the infinite battle pass reward to 10 gleaming only.

Season 4 just does a ton in a row
-Removes fighter currency because players were able to bank it until next character release, and added fighter road that gives a new random character after a ton of grind and everyone hated that.
-Adds Arena that took forever and hurt matchmaking in other modes, then they made it less matches but also nerfed prestige gain so it's not worth it.
-The season adds short hops which universally leading to much faster damage and easier combos, reducing ttk.
-Then it adds shields MID SEASON without warning and they're clearly not balanced nor the characters around them.
-Fighter road exp replaces fighter currency except it's literally useless to people who own all characters so you get battle pass exp except...
-The battle pass is awful. They divided the pass in 2 overpriced ones with no new character and only a few lame skins. They also removed (?) potential gleaming so your infinite BP reward is fighter pass exp that converts into... more battle pass exp.
-Marceline releases completely busted with a brain dead infinite and very strong spamable moves hard to punish.

I'm scared of what the hell the devs will bring next season after this

Do shields really come out at a 15 frame delay?

What is even the point if most jabs and aerials can hit you before your shield is up?

At this point I'm hoping they will re-release as a standalone title. They have plenty of content. Remove the live service shit, etc.

It's over.

I never played any of them but those smash clones actually seemed nice. Fighting game adjacent but without the anxiety of how raw and binary street fitter or tekken are.

Of course, nobody played them, and rivals of aether 2 dying on launch proves as much.

No, shields become active frame 4 but they take 15 frames for the color to fully appear around your character, even tho it's active. You can definitely get hit at the start of the shield animation unlike other games (in Smash the shield is instant).

The problem with shields is that

-They can take a lot of attacks without breaking and charge fast. Even a super shaggy kick doesnt deal half shield bar.
-They buffed dash attacks to be cheaper so you often have bar to spare
-There is no normal grab in the game so 90% characters cant get around shields.
-The universal shield breaker is shit. It does little damage + knockback and doesnt break the shield (why is it called shield breaker?).
-A shield break simply launches you up and you lose control until you hit the ground again, which is too short and hard to do a big punish. In smash for comparison, a shield break makes you dizzy and gives the enemy a free charged smash attack that should kill very early.
-You get out of shield on frame 0 so it's incredibly hard to land your slow ass shield "breaker" and harder to punish a shield spammer

This means shields are mostly 100% safe against aerial enemies without grabs and slowed down the higher level gameplay a lot.

So i was right just a day before.

My last experience in the game was me grinding 5 super hard rift stages everyday for over a week trying to drop the 2% chance gacha Jason skin while having zero fun, which in hindsight is the perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with the game.

I admit i had (a little) fun while it lasted. Rest in peace again multiversus.

That's what bothers me.

MVs was genuinely good. Ot was genuinely fun at both low and high levels. It's not the gameplay that killed it... Or the genre.

It's greed. AAA micro transactions and the need2grind.

Yeah, it was unbalanced at times but it was genuinely fun to play and had the most unique characters in any platform fighter i ever seen. Tom and Jerry have the most brilliant kit and animations i ever seen in a platform fighter if not in all fighting games. The beta was faster but it was also too floaty looking back.

I never liked smash bros competitively but in MVS i got to diamond elo with Smith, Joker and Jason cause they're fun af and i'll miss playing them.

If anything killed the game it was the character unlock grind because i would constantly see complains about it in every social media. Starting with just Shaggy + banana guard in a game that requires specific characters to do dailies/events is depressing.

The fighter road is also suicidal because it kills new player interest. Imagine you joined the game to play raven except she is not on your fighter road so fuck you, grind forever and unlock random characters you don't want before you have a chance to grind for raven.

Marvel Rivals released with all characters avaiable and it's a massive sucess. It's almost like you need people playing your game to keep it alive and when they play for fun instead of unlocks they recommend it to their friends!

This game will go down to history as having one of the most incompetent dev teams of all time. How do you manage to release a game, fail, then claim it was a beta all along, shut down the servers for a whole ass year to do whatever the fuck they claim, rerelease it AND still fail to do any improvements whatsoever. What a shitshow.

On the one hand, I'm sad and very disappointed. MultiVersus when the "open beta" launched was genuinely very fun, being one of the rare fighting games I actually enjoyed playing. The character crossovers were charming with a childlike whimsy that made it the cherry on top.

On the other hand though, rest in piss to the shittiest developers ever for completely fucking up such a promising game. Player First Games? More like Diarrhea First Games.

My only interaction with this game came from seeing people praising a lot of the design choices and character gimmicks. If the Beetlejuice player character that I watched a video about is anything to go by, it seems like there were some genuinely passionate, creative people working on this game. Hope that eventually they’ll be able to put their passion into something where their talents won’t be bogged down by all the regular live service bs

So if I have the game in my Steam library will it still be available after May 30th, or do I need it physically present on my hard drive to keep it?

ETA: nvm I opened my eyes and learned to read. Available til May 30th and will be playable offline, but you won't be able to download it if you haven't already by then.

I blame the design/higher-ups on the failure, not the devs. People who made the gameplay were genuinely talented. People who designed the characters were dedicated, and made unique move kits and snuck in little references.

But someone, be it a lead designer, economy designer or someone from WB, insisted that the game have this shitty AAA economy; they couldn't see a game where people have to olay 4h a day to grind their battlepass and 500 currencies just to buy the latest skin. 5$ for a Joker Tshirt/Batman Mask/Cell shader? Fuck off!

I hope they strip the live services BS and let you play locally and bring back mods... The only way this game can still live imo.

Call it autistic, but serves them right for adding Lebum James into the game. Fuck that asshole.

The Devs made some boneheaded decisions. The original game had a little charm with the old layout, but when it came back the ui looked like a soulless Fornite ripoff. Nobody wanted Black Wonder Woman as a character, and to remove someone like Iron Giant for a while because you're incompetent to balance and run your own fucking game tells you something. Screw the Devs.

Fun gameplay really helps too. It's even better when it doesn't look like woke ass.

Another one from WB as well. Suicide Squad may join it shortly. If Hogwarts Legacy turns into a live service...
Suicide Squad is shutting down. Woke Kombat 1 is on life support, and Maximilliandood is doing everything to keep it alive.

I mean, if you played the beta, then the "re-release", the writing on the wall couldn't be any more apparent. This entire thing was fumbled the entire way, from start to finish. Could of been a great game, all the makings of one were there, but the people in charge are the same kind of greedy retarded niggers who think you can make the line go up endlessly forever, and can't just be content with a steady income.

I got 100% achievements in season 1 of Re-release and haven't touched it since. The abysmal state of the game even then was everything I needed to see.

I have some serious issues with the "download and grind out all the characters now, or you'll have an incomplete offline version forever!" bullshit. You already took mine and everyone elses money to make the game worse with every iteration, and now you can't even put out a "complete" offline version as compensation? No, WE have to take weeks out of our schedules to grind out these characters or we will permanantly have no access to them in a fucking offline version. Fuck these cunts, and especially, fuck you, Tony. I'll wait till someone puts out a "complete" re-pack and/or community servers before I ever think about touching this fucking garbage again.

Edit: My concern with the unlocks comes from this statement.
"After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created connected to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, allowing you to enjoy the game offline with all earned and purchased content moving forward."

This can be read two ways. Either: a. Everything earnable will be automatically unlocked in offline, or b. only what YOU earned will be accessible.

Given how they took every oppprtunity possible to fuck players over throughout the entire lifespan of the game, I'm willing to put money on it being option b. The first offline version was "everything" if I recall correctly, but things feel very different this time around. Beta felt like the everyone involved at least cared and were making an effort. Every moment I played of the re-release genuinely felt like the devs/publishers/ect fucking hate the players and did everything possible to make the game worse with every update and change. Given everything we have now regarding this game, it wouldn't surprise me at all to have them pull this last "fuck you". Theres something weasly about that statement that doesn't sit well with me. "Anyone with a copy of the offline version will have access to all characters, costumes and cosmetics" is more along the the line of what you should say if thats the case. The way its worded really feels like a "well we told you it would be this way months ago, so thats on you" kind of deal.
