I remember reading the first and second series as a child when they were first coming out. I never made it beyond that as I phased out of them pretty quickly. I don't recall much of the series, but I do recall hating Spottedleaf for whatever reason and being a pro-Sandstorm kind of girl. I would loudly, and annoyingly, declare Sandstorm the true waifu of Fireheart(star?) and that Spottedleaf was a WORST. CAT. EVAR!

God, I was an insufferable child.

Is it me or are nearly all warriors characters annoying. Like, I almost hated all of the first series characters (especially Graystripe), Brambleclaw and Crowfeather were the most annoying cats to ever exist (and Firestar since series 2 is my number one hated cat) along with Squirrelpaw and I couldn’t stand Lionblaze and Leafpool either.
I don’t know what I read the series for, I was annoyed by everyone

I don't know about you, but I read it for the political drama. Something about serialised kid-friendly war, territory disputes, and gang violence with a shallow cat exterior really appealed to me 15-20 years ago (how the time flies!). Served me well years later when I was studying history and going through the phase every teenager goes through when he or she realises that "no, actually, the government isn't acting in your best interests, a lot of policy has been informed by racist, sexist, and authoritarian ideas, and most government is corrupt in one capacity or another." Getting kids interested in politics is never a bad thing.

Did you ever read Animorphs? More kid-friendly war and complicated political conflict that fascinated me in my youth. Fun stuff.

They're either annoying, stupid, noneffectual, or some combination of the three.

I can't think of a cat I actually liked outside of Snowkit, and Scourge who weren't that, and those guys didn't even stick around for even an entire book. Maybe Bluestar too, but she got ruined pretty hard by her super edition, Spottedleaf's Heart, and whatever the fuck they did with her in later arcs.

All I know is that I didn't read the series for the characters. I read it for the cool fights, and survival aspects.

It surely wasn't just you. I remember how much I hated the second series and all the main cats in it. I particularly hated Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw. And now that you mention it, I recall hating Graystripe (and his kids) and Crowfeather too. Squirrelpaw's sister annoyed the shit out of me also.

I honestly remember enjoying the first series, but by the second series I was hanging onto the franchise barely. Looking back on it, I'm wondering if I quit after New Prophecy because I grew older, or because I just realized how terrible all the characters were.

Though I'll still admit child me loved Sandstorm, but I don't remember anything about her other than she was a bitch early on in the first series - which checks out. As a kid I was really into tsundere characters.

Edit: What was the name of the kit who was taken by a hawk(?) because it was deaf and couldn't hear it overhead. I just randomly remembered that scene.

Snowkit, and no, I'm still not over it.
Honestly? Same.
God, yeah, I remember that scene like it was yesterday. In the middle of Thunderclan camp, a hawk soars overhead and all of the cats cower in the shadows trying to avoid being eaten, except for Snowkit. His mother kept calling to him and trying to rescue him, all while he kept obliviously playing with some feathers or something, and she had to watch whilst her deaf son died. It was made all the more dramatic with just how overprotective she was shown to be of her son, I remember really feeling for her. I remember really thinking the tension in that scene was great.

I think that the gravity of death and danger lessened in later arcs.

I can't tell what's worse. The animations that retcon it so he thinks his mom's frantically calling was her angrily yelling at him, and that he dies thinking she was mad at him.

Or the animations that have it so he's completely oblivious to the danger even as he's being carried high across the sky.

All I know is that both hurt me like hell, and that I really wish the Erins had made it so he had somehow survived, as ridiculously improbable as that would've been.

I remember liking Graystripe. Granted I never made it past the first two arcs of books. So I didn't even get up to power of 3. Anything I know about this series after that is because I had a phase where I watched a ton of fan review videos/critiques. Basically once Firestar stopped being the narrative focus, my interest plummeted.

Necroing, but remember that super ancient meme from like almost fifteen years ago about Firestar not liking waffles? Well, guess what?

This is not a joke. This is now an honest-to-God real character in the Warriors series.

Apparently, this is the result of a name suggestion poll, and while the character's design, and name are actually based off of some guy in the fandom's irl cat, I think we all know why the name really won.

And yes, his warrior name could actually be Wafflecone since the cats in-series have been proven to know what cones are, and have named a character after them before.

Graystripe is one of the funniest characters in the series because he's written to be the ultimate Chad and I have no idea why other than he's a fan favorite, but even in the beginning he's written similarity. But within The Broken, Code, oh my god. IYKYK.

I'm excited for the newest book releasing in November.
I wish the community wasn't pozzed, but I'm glad I grew up during the era that I did during the early internet. Warriors is what inspired me to animate, I used to participate in the MAP community waaaaaay back when it was an extremely niche community. I guess it's why I'm still here. I also just really like the general story in regards to how its relayed, like the naming and clan system. It's a shame Warriors is automatically written off to be a kids book for using cats as its focus while series like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson aren't.

It's just horrifying seeing the modern community though. It's depraved how they targeted one of the authors all because she was an outspoken lesbian who rejected troons, getting her fired.
Yet conveniently, as soon as they started accepted troons and all that shit- there was an influx of porn. Its fucking disgusting. Say what you want about feral porn and the furry fandom, but I think we can all draw the line when it comes to realistic feral animals such as Warriors. But not only that, the sheer amount of incest and rape featured in those drawings.

The internet was never safe for kids. Yet in an era where youd be labaled a facist predator and doxxed for misgendering someone or sending a shock site to a random person, I think its even more unsafe as it creates this illusion of safety unlike before. Theres so many groomers and then these communities fiilled with groomers where they all pretend to be activists. Its both sexual grooming but also emotionally grooming kids into extremeism by people who only lach onto those idealogies to lash out and intentionally cause pain to everyone around them. I speak as someone with personal experience being a lone vulernable 14-15yr old at the time with unrestricted access to both Tumblr and Facebook. It was bad then but nowhere near as bad as it is now.
