Was the internet a good thing overall?

While the normies see the internet as their new TV, I see it to be very useful as it allows people who seek knowledge and solutions to find them. As long as they know how to navigate between corpo pages made to sell you stuff and government regulated approved stuff.

Its thanks to the net you got third worlders finding the wonderful world of raising livestock in a shitty environment. Or being able to make a hybrid plant and fish farm. Long story short, if you want a solution, you can find it.

One solution I can think of is let the normies have their shitty corponet while the truly initiated get a truly uncensored internet. Something along the lines of having to do some odds and ends to connect. Kind of like how dial up was the ultimate normie repellent back then.

Right now, that's TOR. But as made clear with the troubles this site runs into, it will be awhile before a second internet renaissance happens.
Some sort of technical, instead of political/ideological gatekeeping sounds promising to me.
Problem is, you want the big brains and autist-savants on your gated Internet, instead of the corponet where they can gain millions from shitty apps and other similar crap. Without them, there is no development and improvement.
The early net enjoyed such growth and popularity because the smart people were on it and they were building and engaging in innovation.
I don't think the net is salvageable. I think it'll decay and a new tech will take over, something exciting that the smarts won't be able to stay away from. Who knows what that'll be, but I imagine it will come with even more severe dangers for the species as a whole. But we're fucked anyway, there is no escaping this path we've taken where we're dependent on tech.

This issue especially bothers me because even if its not traumatic, your childhood is kinda over once you're exposed to sex.

Like think of any friends you ever had who, say, used to tell campfire stories (or whatever your nearest equivalent was). I'm sure we all had that event where before, we were actually making up weird, interesting things that ran the gamut of ideas and concepts. But then you discover sex and suddenly all anybody ever talks about is women getting their clothes off. At first you might be fine with it, but after awhile you start to wonder why your imagination just isn't as fun as it used to be.

And you can see that in a lot of lefty shit--everything is a phallic symbol, everything somehow relates back to sex, its impossible for any idea or concept to not ultimately be Freudian. But of course these people justify it in part because they're getting their jollies off.

The answer to the imagination question is that you cannot for some reason just toss sex out of your conscious thought. My imagination works fine even though I am aware boobs exist. Heck even when I was a kid I still had a working brain when the boys were talking about [insert idiocy mistaken for maturity here]. Just sit in you room alone, stop thinking about trying to imagine something, and let your brain wander of it’s own accord. The problem might be you’re trying to come up with something instead of just coming up with something out of the blue.

As far as lefty shit is concerned, it is because they still see sex (namely, procreation itself) as the ultimate be all end all to human thought. The whole “we’re animals, everything we do is to try to reproduce“ type of mindset. It is a self imposed limiter. You could literally design a creature of chaos, whose gaze sends you to the planar limits of the smell of sand (yes I am doing this off the cuff) and some degenerate would try to add a sexual analysis of it because that is their obsession.

The internet is overall a good thing, without it we would have mostly been oblivious to the degeneracy of the world and elites, i know people say it makes people act like retards, but tbh, most retards and lolcows were probably assholes either way and would have been infamous with or without it... besides, if not for the internet, it would be easier to cover up the karlegi plan for europe and the states, and I'd rather deal with all the bullshit of censorship and redditors than live in ignorance
I'd argue that if we knew less about what the elites were up to, they wouldn't have done such drastic shit like the wu flu and purposely destroying the economy. Maybe I'm naive, but I think if we were blissfully unaware they would probably not be as motivated to crush us. The Internet made them want to play games with us even more imo.

It's hardly a problem that solely affects lefties though. In fact I've actually heard variations on that exact attitude more from right-wingers. It's one of the issues I have that keeps me from adopting right-wing beliefs entirely and makes me more inclined to just strike out in a third direction.

You're right that it can be overcome and in fact, the older you get, the easier it is. But god damn, those years were rough.

The chinese really didnt know that much about their government and they still got crushed. Yes, you are right. You are naive. Many of the things that are happening today have been planned for almost a century or longer. It's just that the technology that makes it possible is relatively new.

I think the worst thing about the internet is it destroyed most fandoms. Like, random example, comic books. Comic books were this cool thing you could find and read. I started on Archie Comics and then Marvel Comics. I mean yeah the fans had a reputation for being antisocial goobers but it was easy for me to stay away from them, but then the internet comes around, and you learn both the fans and the people making comic books are irredeemable assholes. Then you have forum communities set up as gate keeping functions to push their will on others and have to deal with janny assholes and the cliques surrounding them, and then that gets even worse with Twitter. I'm still trying to find hobbies that the internet doesn't care or know about so I won't have to be tempted into finding out how awful the fan community is.

Before I got on the internet in the late 90s, I was the most brainwashed lefty you've ever met. Once 911 happened, and I started researching it, I went down the rabbit hole and emerged the man you see today.

On the whole, the internet is good because it allows me to call people nigger who may be thousands of miles away. That's a precious gift.

Only a pussy would say nigger. Real niggas use infliction.

there are a lot of angry morons and porn addicts nowadays because the internet has turn everyone in to a bunch of angry hateful cynical faggots who like to commplan about nothing and like to consoom nothing but rage bait and porn so I will have to say no

You know how in Islam everything was cool at first, they were conquering people and marrying 15 wives and having a good time, then when Moohaymud died there was a split within the religion between two different claimants to the moohaymud legacy, and everything turned to shite?

That’s what happened to the internet, except it was a schism between the Hackers (1995) everything-goes ethos and the corporate faggot lizard person ethos. It looks like the good guys lost. Sad!

I don't want to sperg about the topic in general.

To summarize my opinion on the subject, I believe that most intelligent people don't care about what retards have to say if they don't have an angle.

Internet helped connect the tards together without borders, and they now have companies pandering to make money. Nothing shocking.

Regarding your nieces, I think that you can work around this. Don't make the technology the issue, but rather figure out a way to use it to challenge them.

Basically, what you don't want is to play a solved game. Because they can just look at the answer.

Instead, play a strategy game. There are moves which are EV+, some EV-. If they look up strategy, it will be very stimulating for them.

If they are young, getting them started with a simple Monopoly does the trick. Even with such a simple game, you will find interesting strategies online, and the reasoning behind them.

Social media and media have been a disaster. The internet per se is neutral. What’s damaged us is:
1. Uptick in speed and sensory bombardment- reduces attention spans and empathy
2. Social media - firstly now used as a surveillance and social training feedback tool to socially engineer and control us. Secondly allows previously isolated social extremists to meet and amplify their perversions.
3. Media being able to access information and reach places they previously couldn’t, plus 24 hour news cycle, plus social engineering = information control and polarisation.
I grew up without smartphones or internet and it was, genuinely, better

"Third-positionists" are just insecure left-wingers

As another person said, I think it's more the internet is a good thing but it's the sites on it that fuck it over.

Take Tiktok for example, Instagram, or whatever other insanely popular social media there is. They aren't exactly beneficial to the internet and imo cause far more problems then good.

But then again the internet can be used as a tool for great things and we've fixed many major problems with it, and made things far more efficient. People can access crucial information in seconds and it's never been easier to just contact your friends through Discord or whatever else you use.

So in summary, yeah, it's good. Just the sites on it which weigh it down. I'd love to hear another take on this though if anyone else feels different.

I think it's been a bad thing, because of how it's come about.

The issue is that the internet has so drastically changed the world in such a short period of time that I think humanity didn't really get the chance to adjust; the amount of change that's occurred over the last 25 years would've potentially amounted to a hundreds of years and multiple generations in any other time period.

It's true that individuals who aren't retards are able to use it as a tremendous tool, but that's irrelevant because a lot of society is retards, and those retards collectively have a major impact on how things function.

I think as more young people raised on high speed internet reach working age and can legitimately not function in the real world, everyone's going to realize the algorithm-driven internet has quietly been doing far, far more damage than they ever suspected.

The internet is not too bad in the Asian countries, it was definitely bad in the west and Europe. I thought the internet was supposed to make people informed but it only made people more lazy and unable to take different viewpoints.
