Was the internet a good thing overall?

I think high speed internet is the problem.

If it was “extremely difficult to impossible” to upload and stream audio- and video-based content, I think the internet would be better overall. It should also be very very difficult to transmit images , as it was around 25-30 years ago.

Essentially, J believe the internet would be better off if it was restrained to sharing text based content almost exclusively.

As with nearly everything, once the greater mass of the population began to use the internet and have it dumbed down and tailored for their use it really didn't stand a chance, the majority always ruin everything. This is coming from someone who used and knows what fun a magenta punter in a aol chatroom could be.

Newgrounds and early 4chan and YouTube were kino as fuck back in the day. I wouldn't want to get rid of high-speed internet entirely. Just increase the barriers of entry to high-speed internet to filter all the faggots and retards.

I think They should have stopped providing residences any sort of high speed internet access before YouTube came out. I think should be actively difficult to access images and video via the internet, as people just are too retarded to handle a deluge of information.

Filtering would be nice. I was online during this era… I’d say that class/access to computers used to restrict most of the true dumbasses from accessing the internet. Smartphones partially ruined it.

On the one hand, the internet led to "social media" which led to Clown World.

On the other hand, it allows instant access* to info. Before the Information Age, knowledge that wasn't commonly available could only be knowable by travel (like to a local library or further), meeting those who know what you wanted to, or putting more effort into research. Now I can see what Buenos Aires looks like without going there, view the weather for the entire globe, find out info on the beliefs of any world religion, and download programs to visualize what the universe out there is really like.

Not only that, but despite all the censorship of Current Year, the internet is still a place where "little people" can get a message out. Like I said, before the Internet, the only widespread communication was corporate-run mass media. Corporations and government regulations (like from the FCC in the USA) decided what went on TV or radio. Appearing on TV as a "little person" was a "big honor" and could make one feel like a celebrity, unless maybe it was public access television (almost no one watched). The only way to get a message out without the corporate-run mass media was locally, like with flyers. No wonder there wasn't as much censorship: not many could speak out.

*(when search engines aren't being "exceptional" that is)
