Thanks, I hate it and/or love it. My day is immeasurably ruined and/or made exponentially better for it.

I get its probably better (minus the exploits) but until it gets widely supported by programs I will continue angrily disliking it

I hate webp because when I'm sourcing images from the web I want the raw file not a cached webp variant that Google or large CDNs serve. Most image and video containers have compatibility issues and I find it annoying when I have random jiff, png-large, webp, ai, etc. files that the majority of non-web applications struggle with. Maybe this will improve over time, though imo .webp feels like a stopgap until a consortium of CDNs can agree on a new standard format.

The good thing is that all the major browsers can auto-convert a webp to a png or jpg if you give it the desired file extension web downloading, unfortunately Microsoft has yet to bake this into Windows and there is no way to cast a webp file to a different container without manually converting it.

Josh, I'm curious if you're .webp cloning on your server and preserving the original uploaded files, or if they're being purged to save on storage costs.
He just made it so you could post and display webp pics w/o converting them beforehand. (otherwise it'd show up as an attachment and it's obv gay)
WTF are you on about nigga?

I love and hate webp.
Love it's good stability for websites and easy sharing
Hate that photoshop (cs6 to be exact) and other image editors can't open it and you need to use image converters to get the raw and editable version.

rekieta.webp orders a giant plate of food, eats exactly one french fry, does a line in the bathroom and complains about the lack of stripper poles

addon.webp
This add-on works pretty seamlessly for me.

I've seen so many people rage about how much they absolutely hate webp, but I've never seen a real explanation beyond "it doesn't work yet on bloatware xyz". I agree that Google shouldn't just be able to force whatever standards it wants onto the web, but the most vocal haters seem to be Windows cattle so I doubt that's the reason.
