Weight loss support thread

To clarify I am anti drug and therapist lol

I've also given myself apnea/orthopnea as a result of my weight gain. If I don't sleep on my stomach I will wake up every 1-2 hours. Sometimes the complicated breathing gives me nightmares. I've never felt anything like this before.
Feeling it take longer for air to enter my lungs while on my back. Really sucks. I want to lose the weight first before asking about a CPAP machine. I fucked up bad :cryblood:

My face is fuller and I have strength to actually work out. I’m starting slowly and trying to build a routine.

Good. Keep at it. If you wanna get some muscle, there's your motivation to eat.

Seem to have just added it on from somewhere. :/

Weight always fluctuates a bit. Sometimes it's the volume of food/drink still in your system, sometimes just water weight, sometimes you forget to take a shit for 6 days and what have you. I don't remember when I weighed myself. 2 months ago, perhaps. I know I've lost weight but I guess I don't want to get stuck on numbers until I'm at the point where it's harder to get the last pounds off and I'm pretty much where I want to be.

All I need is motivation.

Consider this: you don't have to desperately wait around for a feeling that tells you do something. You can do it regardless. Feelings come and go. Like diarrhea and hiccups. They suck.

help a tard out

Go with your instinct, you're close. I'd add about 200 kcal/day and see how it goes. It varies a little from person to person. No reason to overthink it.

So why is that Ozempic stuff bad, again? Everyone's shouting it as a miracle drug (which is sus) but they were trying to keep it exclusive to Hollywood types for years which lead some credence to it.

From what I’ve witnessed is that it’s another hormone therapy drug.
In men that I know, it’s been causing unusual mood swings and almost depressive episodes.

I’m of the opinion that you shouldn’t try to alter hormones in your body if there was nothing wrong to begin with.

In 2016 when I was 19 years old I officially started weight loss in September weighing in at 265 pounds (5'8 male)
In the summer of 2017 I weighed 170 pounds right in time for my 20th birthday. I still have the pic of me in my elementary school graduation shirt to show off how much I lost.
Now nearly 7 years later I am 260 pounds again and I have no idea how to motivate myself. I can't even pretend to be in that mindset. I am so stressed.
The slightest bit of craving I go to eat something. I remember being able to fast for 18 hours like it was nothing. I remember being able to mentally compartmentalize cravings/hunger as a positive feeling as it implied weight loss. No longer....
I even tried Wellbutrin in 2022 and decided to stop 4-6 months later as I felt it was doing nothing. To this day I have zero healthy coping mechanisms. I sometimes have mental breakdowns at work. No one is around when this happens ofc..
I know exactly what to do to lose a ton of weight but I have zero motivation. All I need is motivation.
It's so devastating. I could easily lose two pounds a day at my physical labor job + dieting/intermittent fasting but I just don't have the will.
If anyone has gone through this reply asap (:_(
But what are you eating then?

Trying to deny hunger (whether it's reasonable or not) is way harder than redirecting the hunger towards something less calorically dense.
That's why I've always got a 5lb pack of raw carrots in the fridge, usually broccoli and brussel sprouts (try chopping them up like small heads of lettuce), and a whole stack of sardine tins sitting around, but not potato chips, bread, or soda.

Unfortunately this is one of those situations where society does a terrible job of getting people conditioned towards not being fat: there's mainly this shitty popular AIDS-riddled tiktok version of weight loss that's focused primarily on working out and flashy "meal plans", or counting calories and weighing yourself like a neurotic female.

It's really fucking faggy, it's meant for show, and it only works when people are at their motivated best. As soon as they're in a dip it's going to fail. Diet and weight management needs to be an intuitive and low effort process, that isn't dependent on exercise to maintain.
- One of my favorites is raw carrots and anchovies. You legit just grab a couple raw carrots out of the package (I don't bother washing things, because I'm a caveman), grab a paper towel, crack open a tin of anchovies, then progressively drape the anchovies over the carrot and eat it. It tastes great, both ingredients have good vitamin and antioxidant content, and pretty minimal calories. A+ food option.

You can also dip the carrots in lower calorie guacamole, salsas...their manageable stick-like nature is great.

- If you're going to snack, try eating nuts, especially walnuts since they at least contain proteins and are proven to be quite good for you again with anti-inflammatory properties. I'll dump some walnuts into my hand, squeeze a small amount of sriracha on it, then toss it down. They are a little higher calorie though, so don't overdo it.

- A lot of fermented vegetables are low calorie and contain probiotics, which is supposed to help regulate gut health.
Try getting good Kimchi if you can find it, I love Kimchi. But stuff like saurkraut, natto (if you can handle it) etc. all have fairly minimal calories but you can just pull them out of your fridge and eat them.

That extends to a lot of pickled/jarred foods. They may not have the same probiotic content, but pickled red beets, pickles, pepperocini, all types of jarred things have a fair bit of flavor with minimal calories and no preparation.

You really have to get conditioned to filling out with vegetables, whether it's for meals or dumb stress eating.
Just do it, get some vegetables next time you're at the store and start experimenting with them, roasted, eaten raw, in salads, in those same salads but microwaved until they're soft, whatever. There are no rules, ignore vegetable facists.

If you're eating healthy stuff not only are you satisfying your stomach, but consuming substances like antioxidants are going to help your overall well being too. So you'll be fuller and happier overall, but less fat.

Completely fallen off of the wagon for the last couple of years after cleaning up and ended up gaining a ton of weight. I have a hard time dealing with cravings and I have a pretty awful sweet tooth, to the point where I feel miserable if I don't have it after a while. Is there any tips to quit my sugar addiction and unfuck my life?

Been doing keto for nearly two weeks and I’m down four pounds. I was expecting a bit more but I might be going overboard on the portions. I’m going to have to start measuring food and having exactly one portion.

my stomach really hurt the first few days but it has gotten better,

Over the course of May I lost 10 lbs. I will admit this is surprising because my commitment to my workout has been inconsistent. However, if all I’m doing is focusing on consistency and working towards my goal of working out every weekday (I’m not exactly trying to get ripped, just compensating for my current job being nowhere near as physical as the other jobs I’ve had), then the next 20 lbs toward my goal weight should be no problem.

If you're really in ketosis, which you need to make sure it's >20g of carbs per day, then the worst the diet could throw at you is over. I applaud you for sticking it out despite your results. Speaking of, I find it a little strange that you've only lost four pounds. Usually, people lose a lot of water weight in that first few weeks because such low carb intake obliterates your glycogen stores, to which a single gram carries an additional 4g of water.

As far as portion sizes go, even foods that are zero/>1g of carbs still have carbs in them. You'd have to eat quite a bit of it, though, to have it really make a difference. It also depends on how many meals you have in a day, and if it's something like every three hours with snacks in-between, I would say start there rather than with portion sizes. I did two meals per day and half of my current loss happened in the first month.

I’m going to have to record exactly what I’m eating on an app. I thought it would be a bit OTT but it seems necessary in my case.

I will say that my energy and motivation levels have increased over the past week. If that sticks I’ll continue eating keto just for that. Definitely not as depressed as I have been.

Eating less carbs, making myself aware of what I eat, brisk walking for 30 mins. to an hour in less than 2 years worked for me. Lost 40 lbs. overall.

It's all about the discipline, folks. I just think to myself that I need to be healthy so that I won't end up looking like a Huttese or one of those deluded fat-positivity psychos who'll die from a heart attack anytime in the future.

Yes. Make it through the first few days. Sugar isn't an addiction in the normal fashion but like a wildly wobbling bicycle that you keep over-correcting. Make it through the first few days and the massive over-corrections panic-eating will stop. You'll still have hunger but that's a regular hunger you can work at managing. The crazy swings will go.

Once you're out of the swings, plan out meals that are bulky with vegetables and protein. Break out the fat if you have to, but keep away from the sugar and carb-heavy stuff. No gorging on bread either. It still counts.

Yeah the main thing I noticed was my memory and focus. Also: two pounds per week is considered great as far as weight loss is concerned, and I'm willing to bet if you incorporated intermittent fasting and/or a 30 minute walk each day you could probably get that up to three or four pounds. It also has to do with age, height, sex, etc. I could say I lost 12 pounds in one month but any experience I have is as a 6'2, 24 y/o man doing IF from the get-go with no medical complications.

If tracking your meals helps you, then do it; Whatever helps you stay consistent, do it. The main thing I see when people fuck up a diet has to do with consistency. They build snacking habits, they have cheat days, next thing you know you've forgotten what dieting even means and that's when you fall off.

So why is that Ozempic stuff bad, again? Everyone's shouting it as a miracle drug (which is sus) but they were trying to keep it exclusive to Hollywood types for years which lead some credence to it.
Well I wouldn't pozload my neghole because first of all it's an injection. Any needles, pills, parasites, you avoid that shit like the plague especially when the debate surrounding it only leaves you confused and unsure. The only time you should be taking drugs is if you need to lose weight quickly for a surgery and dieting is not physically an option for you. Many of us in this thread have ruined our bodies with chemicals, and I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't introduce more to fix that. Stay natty and don't give any of these bastard doctors a cent that doesn't go straight towards saving your life.

Something I came up with: if you work remotely or have any significant space to yourself, get the hell up and walk every hour. I know Apple Watches aren’t completely accurate, but I can burn equivalent calories to a 70 minute workout by getting up and walking around the room every working hour, or adding walking to small things. Like drinking from a smaller cup so you have to walk to the fridge or coffee more, or going to talk to someone instead of sending an email.

I also make my breakfast ahead of time for the morning and make five lunches on Sunday.

Not eating like a family of four + getting 100k-120k steps a week is making things come together for me. I’m a weight training newbie though, wouldn’t know what to do.

(Nerd tip: on many recumbent machines, it’s possible to play a Switch or similar device while actively working out).

Ive gained the weight I lost back. Well I have re lost (again) about 7lbs, and am about 10lbs away from 'healthy' bmi (again, lol). It is my own doing for sure but things got really tough with family lately and I just put down the calorie counting, and staying with/partially caregiving for family I stopped running, biking, and walking daily like I was. It wasnt a lot but I was at least consistent. My brakes broke on my bike and though I could stop, I could only stop at slow speeds and it took like 150 ft lmao. I fixed the bike yesterday. I am home now and dont think I will travel for at least a few weeks, so Ive been walking again. I plan on biking to my gym (its very close) and either actually going in and doing a light workout or bike the trail around it today. I dont know why but I hate the idea of working out when the gym has too many people in it. It is very small, but it is my local rec center and so close by I cant justify going anywhere else right now especially because I dont like driving short distances constantly in my old car lol. I used to weightlift and be pretty strong/muscular looking and I think I am anxious that I will find out how much of that I have let go if I start weightlifting again and cant do even simple things anymore.... but that isnt a good enough excuse to avoid the gym...in fact it is a retarded one. Just wanted to type out this ramble....good luck everyone trying to improve their health. Im seeing first hand what happens when people age without taking care of themselves and it leads to early death and early immobility...burdening your family... I cannot let myself go that route.

Starting Monday I will officially begin my weight loss crunch:punished:. My goal weight is 135 pounds:really:. Go down 3 shirt sizes and cut my waist in half (or whatever the healthy metric for waist length is)
I am a 5'8 male who works manual labor 40 hours a week cleaning schools. I am constantly moving:ow:. Keep that in mind people who work sedentary.
I will limit my calories to 1000. Intermittent fasting every day. The degraded quality and rising cost of junk makes this much easier than ever before. I plan on eating all 1000 before work (I am currently on night shift)
I will also walk 8 miles every Saturday and Sunday night and keep track of the steps with the android app Pedometer (ITO Technologies) which I used in the past when I was 90 pounds leaner. Works great!
I'll upload pictures to demonstrate how it's going. I also want these postings to act as accountability.
I want to be, look and sleep healthier. I'm REALLY hoping my apnea/orthopnea is tied to my weight otherwise I will be very upset :c

welp, might as well as for advice here, i've been reducing my food intake the past few weeks and lost enough weight to the point i'm happy but i've been having fainting spells and vision problems on occasion, a few hours ago, i lost my vision whilst drinking water and hit my head and fell more of less arm and head first into the ground, my mug broke but the shards didn't go far so there's no bleeding thankfully, i have a bump now near my elbow, should i just leave it or put ice on it ?

This is an odd post.

If you're fainting you might not be eating enough. What's your diet look like? The average day of eating?

If you hit your head I'd make sure someone IRL knows to check in on you throughout the day, and maybe consider going to a quick care to get checked up. And yes put some ice on your elbow.

one chicken part a day plus some eggs, sometimes a fruit or cereal, used an ice pack on my elbow, its melted now so i'm refreezing it to put on my head, i don't have anyone with me though and my skull feels like strange, like as if i can feel my neurons

Neighbors? Coworkers? Go to the quick care and get checked out.

How many calories do you take in a day? A single chicken drumstick / chicken strip + some eggs is almost definitely not enough food.
