Weight loss support thread

I'm trying to get into swimming with my high school friends. I've never learned how to swim correctly because me being on the autism spectrum leaves me physically uncoordinated. But it's said that water exercises are gentler on the joints than terrestrial exercises. Even with prescription orthotics and supportive running shoes, a day's work of standing for 9-ish hours on my feet leaves my poor flat feet unwilling to even go on the elliptical.

swimming is honestly the best exercise IMHO. when i was swimming year round growing up, i felt so much healthier and kept so much trimmer. you hardly notice that you're exercising if you go for distance rather than speed-- i picked up swimming again after my foot surgeries and it really helped with physical therapy and strength of the muscles. i can swim five miles and barely notice, but im definitely advanced.

for a beginner swimmer, i would definitely recommend some water aerobics class or even adult swimming lessons. if you're confident in your abilities, find a pool with open lanes and swim until you can't!

best of luck

My weight keeps fluxuating between 75 and 77 kilos right now, and I've been cycling at least 20 minutes a day with usually minimal breakfast, no lunch and a moderately sized dinner
I'd like to really drop my weight to at least 65

Golly Gets Good: Take Number Ffffffshitballswhy: Gained back most of the weight I lost senior year as of this May due to depression things/losing fucks to give. Since then, I've been working on re-incorporating exercise. I've found I actually don't hate jogging as it's pretty fun to sync my pace up to whatever musical I'm listening to at the time. I'd lost a few pounds, then went crazy when my boyfriend visited and ate everything. Apparently eating everything ever while doing nothing in a 2 week span is enough to gain back 5 pounds. Woo.

It's been about a month and I think I've finally undone much of the damage of my foolish debauchery. Onward.

I went to the doctor again and lost a bit more weight, about 3 lbs. again. That's 11 lbs. total since May, which is a little more than 2 lbs. a month. It's working, whatever I'm doing. All I really did was start drinking weight loss shakes for breakfast but it seems to be working.

The next time I go to the doctor will be a week before Christmas, so we'll see if I start gaining weight after that, because I always gain weight in the winter.

I need to start going to the gym again, to see if that works.

I renewed my endless effort at losing weight this month. Went from 178 to 175 since November 1. I feel like I wrecked that today. Oh dear god the pain of binge eating.

You didn't wreck anything. Everyone ate more today relative to other days, just get back on track tomorrow, friend.

I can't keep snacky food in the house because I'll just keep munching on it until it's gone.
This. I got a lot of chocolate last week (or week before) for cheap because a store was closing down for refurbishment and were selling everything 50% off (it's a frozen foods store, but they sold EVERYTHING even batteries and toilet paper and sweets off at half price).

I ate chocolate non stop all week. Why? Just because it was there and I could. I'm still bloated this week with it.

Dad finally went to Scotland for the winter, now my fridge is full of veggies, chicken breast and 12 grain bread. I also dug out my 1960s blender that I can use mason jars to blend in and it's protein time again. I just had a hospital visit for malnutrition of a few long term vitamin deficiencies so I'm gonna have to watch that and am supplementing until my levels are back where they should be so I'm really trying to get that stuff in order.

I'm actually now 40 pounds less than I thought I was according to my doctor. Seems my scale was insanely off.

I weigh ~150 lbs, and according to my BMI I'm overweight for my height.

I'm not sure if I should go back to swimming every other day or start walking around my neighborhood instead. It's getting pretty cold out and I don't have any work out clothes to begin with.

Make sure that's the new BMI, they adjusted it in the last couple years when they noticed people in the old overweight category tended to die less often. If you're using the old one find the updated one and work from there.

Ah, thank you! I just used a new BMI calculator and it still classifies me as overweight, but the good news is I'll be healthy if I lose 10-20 lbs.

I feel horrible about my weight. I'm over 250 lbs now, which makes me obese using the BMI calculator. I know what I have to do to lose it, but it's easier said than done. I just love junk food too much. :(
I'm the same way. I snack late at night when I start feeling hungry, and I just go all out. :(

I know it's been a while since this post, but if you can go for the swimming do so, it burns way more calories for the time you put in than walking does. I've stopped swimming and...bad things.

Walking's better than nothing mind you.

p.s Here's some handy tips - if you can, time when you get back from your swim close when you have your dinner, lunch or breakfast (cooking quicker things or preparing something in advance to reheat really helps) that way, even though the swim may have made you willing to chew through the earth's crust from hunger, you won't eat any excess snacks because of it.

As for snacking? I ended up trying gum and drinking more water. It helps some.

OK guys, who here plans on being more than a resolutionist? Mostly because we've been at it since way before the new year.

Unusual appetite control strategy: Read about cases of missing and unidentified persons. Especially look at the pictures and really think about the people. Enough of the cases are depressing enough and the images squicky enough to kill appetite. I've found reading /r/gratefuldoe both fascinating and motivational. Insights or connections you make while avoiding food could actually make a difference.

I fucked up over the holidays and gained 8 lbs.
It was my own fault since after pulling 12+ hour days I was too lazy to cook and I would eat takeout or fast-food before collapsing into bed. Bad move
I bought some cardio workouts and I'm going to kick those habits.

Stress eating is a huge killer. That's why I've struggled with my weight so much. You give yourself a break because you have to eat, and eating feels good, and it gets out of hand very quickly. Do you think the workouts will help you deal with stress better than comfort eating?
